The rain fell on her already wet hoodie, as Katherine ran to reach her house, which is a block away from her bus stop. She kept running as the Florida weather got worse, but didn't stop running. Her legs were irritated from the day. Actually, her entire body was sore, from the large number of bruises that she received throughout the day. The bullies were incredibly rough on her today, but as usual, she didn't stop them. She couldn't anyway, she was far too weak for them. Once she got to her front door, she hurriedly got her keys and unlocked the door, going into her home.

Her dull looking house greeted her with the usual silence, and Katherine sighed. She dropped her wet backpack on the couch and closed the door, opening her back to get her laptop. As she got it out, drops of water started dripping from it. "Great..." she said to herself out loud. "I knew I should've gotten a better backpack..." She sighed, as she got a small towel and wrapped the laptop in it. As she let the (hopefully not broken) laptop dry, she walked towards the shower, turning on the showerhead as she let it heat up. She looked at herself in the mirror. At her disgusting face, her hair, purple towards the tips, all over the face. Her one appearing black eye over her blue ones. She hated it all. She hated herself. She just wished that all the pain could stop. She wished that she could have peace.

She took off her clothes as she stepped into the shower, letting the water consume her. Her mind went blank as the water slowly washed away all the blood from her scars that appeared on her body, top to bottom. She flinched when the water hit her, but soon loosened up. The only time she could relax, were these moments. Oh, how she wanted to stay like this. But of course, as usual, she can't do that. She sighed as she cleaned herself, eventually turning off the water and grabbing her towel, drying herself and changing into some PJs for the night.

She later went to the kitchen and started to heat up a Hot Pocket for herself. As the Hot Pocket was cooking, she grabbed her laptop to check if it was dry. It, in fact, was, so she opened it up, and it miraculously turned on. One good thing is happening? Impossible. She grabbed her Hot Pocket after it was finished cooking in the microwave, and sat on the couch, doing her homework as she ate. It has been multiple hours, and she has finally finished it. She was about to turn off her computer when a "ding!" came from it. A message. She sighed, thinking it was the bullies texting her again. She was tempted to just close her laptop and not see the message. But...something inside of her was telling her not to. So she sighed and checked the message.

"Hi Kate! It's been a while!" The message read. Katherine's eyes widened at the message. There was only one person who called her by that old name. She gripped the small green lightning bolt necklace around her neck, like memories that to flood in her head. Frantically, she typed on the keyboard and sent her response.

"Amity?" Katherine stared at the screen eagerly, waiting for a response. About a minute later, another message came through.

"Yeah! It's me! It's been a while" The message read. Katherine responded.

"Yeah, it has!"

"So, how are you?" Katherine bit her lip, then responded.

"Everything is great. Classes are hard though"

"I know you'll get through it! You always do"

"Heh, yeah"

"So, I have some news!"

"What is it?"

"Well, tomorrow, I'm moving to Florida! Isn't it great?" Katherine smiled the widest she ever remembered.

"That's amazing!!!"

"Yeah! I was hoping to see you tomorrow"

"Definitely!"

"You know the area more than I do, could you make a meeting spot?"

"How about the old abandoned Walmart? No one will be there, so we could find each other easily."

"Sure! How about 5 pm?"

"Deal"

"Great!" See you tomorrow!"

As the conversation ended, Katherine jumped with complete happiness, an emotion she hasn't felt in ages. She closed her laptop, and headed straight to bed, excited for the day to come.

Too bad she doesn't know that everything will turn downhill, as usual.

Walmart. Katherine is already there, waiting excitedly. She couldn't wait to meet her old friend again. She was so excited that she came 2 hours earlier than the agreed time. Katherine tapped her foot impatiently. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to come so early, she thought. After 30 minutes, she decided to explore the abandoned store to pass the time, it's walls covered in moss and debris, and found a way to get in through a worn outdoor in the back.

She walked around in the hallowed aisles, her footsteps taking over the silence. The only source of light, wherefrom the glass doors, the light illuminating only small parts of the store. As Katherine walked, she didn't realize that she was drifting from the light, until it was hard to see anything. She could barely see her hands in the dark. She gripped her lime necklace for comfort as she turned to return to the light. But as she turned, she saw something glow in the dark. She was in the kids' aisle, so maybe it was just some toy she accidentally turned it on. But the more she thought of that, the brighter the glow was until it reached an impossible glow for just a toy. Letting her curiosity get to her, she slowly walked towards the glow, moving the dusty objects out of the way. She coughed as the dust settled in, and once it did, it was a centipede, it's shell illuminating the small corner. It looked huge! Katherine thought, as she slowly backed up, sickened. She was about to turn when the centipede suddenly jumped on to her shoulder, crawling towards her face. She screamed and attempted to get the centipede off. But the centipede had an inhuman speed, as it crawled all around her face, even on top of her eye, until it jumped into her open screaming mouth, and went inside her body. Katherine gagged and chocked herself, trying to get the centipede out. The longer the centipede stayed inside her, the more she suffocated, and the more she suffocated, the more blood started to come out of her mouth. Why does it hurt so much?! She thought. "Kate? You around here?" Amity called out as she walked around the abandoned building. She got a text from Katherine hours ago, and she can't find her anywhere. Where is she? She sighed. Maybe she inside? She was always exploring when they were younger. As she thought of this, she spots an open door at the back. She was definitely here.

She nudged her body through the door and into the almost pitch black building. She pulled out her phone and turned on the flashlight feature. The light immediately hit the crimson red goo on the ground, making a path deeper into the store. Amity could smell iron in the goo, and her heart sank.

"KATE?!" She hollered as she ran deeper into the store, following the blood path. She gripped her phone tighter while she ran, the blood puddles that she would occasionally come across to becoming larger and larger. She halted once the trial ended, seemingly to nowhere.

"KATE, COME OUT!" She tried to yell out, waving her light around the area, near the cash register. There was nothing in sight. "Kate, this isn't funny...p-please..." She fell to her knees, her eyes tearing up. The dropped her phone to the floor. Please be ok. She thought. Maybe she's outside, waiting for me. Yeah, that's it. This has nothing to do with Kate. Amity took shaky breaths until she felt something wet and lumpy fall on top of her head. Confused, she held her hand over her head and touched it, then brought it back down to see what her finger held. Blood. She felt another drop fall on her. Then another. After the 3rd one, she looked above to see where it was coming from, grabbing her phone once again and pointing it upwards.

It came from a monster.

There was the large body of a centipede, around 7 feet long, it's legs holding on to the ceiling. The top part, where the head is, is the upper body and head of a human, their face almost unidentifiable, their black hair that faded to purple messy. One of their eyes is dangling from her right eye sockets, holding by a small part of the optic nerve. The other eye socket is just dark with blood coming from it. Amity screamed in fear and tried to run to the nearest exit. Until the monster crawled down the wall in an inhumane speed and wrapped their body around the girl, keeping a tight grip. Amity shook as she stared at the creature and struggled to get out. It was a miracle that she was still conscious. The tight grip made it impossible for Amity to move, forcing her to look close up to the monster's face. She tried to look away, before she spotted something in the creature's neck, and froze. It was a green lightning bolt-shaped necklace. The once she made for...

"K-K-KATE?!" She yelled, bewildered. Was this her friend? What happened that vicissitudes her? The light outside from the windows dimmed and the sound of water hitting the glass could be heard, a contrast to the sunny weather moments ago.

Kathrine tilted her head, like a puppy, but it was impossible to tell if it was of confusion. She got closer to Amity's face, breathing on her. Amity could just feel the warm, shallow breaths. Amity tried to turn away, but she couldn't. Kathrine took her hand and placed it under Amity's chin, almost studying her. Then, Amity suddenly felt weak. As if all of her energy has been drained from her. Her flesh started to wrinkle, and her visions unclear. She no longer had the strength to struggle, and barely moved. She stayed there, limp, as the centipede body slowly unwrapped her.

"K-Kate...i-it's me..your f-friend..." Amity said as she started to cry. Why? Why why WHY WHY WHY?! WHY DID THIS HAVE TO HAPPEN?! She got no response as Katherine grabbed her arm and started biting it, tearing it's flesh apart, licking the blood that pooled. Amity hollered, but it was cut short as she suddenly felt her arm completely ripped off. She didn't move. She didn't say a word. Her skin turned pale. Her eyes turned a dull blue. And she let her once best friend devour her alive.
