6- Just A Completely, Normal, First Day (2)
-----
"Charlie~ wanna go drink with the girls later after work?" As the cold wind and the soft orange sunlight lull her skin, sitting in a lively cafe, just beside a busy three-way intersection, a certain vampire takes a sip of her coffee before she glances at her co-worker.
"Hmm.. I don't think I can today.. Sorry, i'm planning to visit a friend later," the vampire answers as she wipes her lips.
"I see... Oh well, see you after break then!" Charlie's coworker waves as she walks along the sidewalk towards their office's building just a road ahead.
"See you!" Charlie smiles, waving back.
As her friend disappear into the crowds of the street, Charlie lower her arm onto the table. While the impact causes her coffee to ripple, she looks onto her own reflection, thinking back to yesterday, where she finds her two friends at each other's throat.
To her, both Ren and Niz are like the two sides of a coin. Opposite of each other, yet, they stick together, needing one another. And Charlie? Perhaps, she herself is the person holding that coin, to not let it roll and slip to a drainage.
Things were never like yesterday when they met back in their high school days. Charlie never saw them like that before. Ren was always calm yet cheerful, always unbothered by Niz's teases. He was never the type to mention that sort of stuff. And Charlie could only wonder how much he had to endure.
Those years of carrying those kinds of thoughts and unwarranted guilt. She couldn't imagine how dangerous it would've been had she not been there for him.
And speaking of the fox, there he is, rising at the horizon of the middle intersection of the three way, just running in the middle of the road with his eyes and mouth wide open, carrying an unconscious man. Running alongside him is a scorpion beastman, who seems to bear the same panic as the he juggles another unconscious figure with his tail.
The people of the street join as the two pass through, screaming and scrambling like a school of fish. Though for a good reason.
A cloud of black mist reveals itself out of the horizon, following the two Knights. It's dark howling wind blowing the cars and people unlucky enough to get caught within as explosions of cars follow its wake.
"WHERE THE HELL DID THIS THING CAME FROM!?" Ren calmly says.
"HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW!?" Sion, his partner, answers.
And revealing itself out of the mist of dust and debris, comes out a three-headed, giant wolf-like creature. It's stature being two times the height of a truck. It's fur black with a mist of darkness emanating like ashes as it moves. It's eyes are glowing red with savage drools splashing from its relentlessly gaping mouth. As it continues to chase the two knights, growls the likes of a hungry pack of wolves echoes throughout the street, rumbling leaves and dirts that's in its vicinity.
As sane people would, the people sitting in Charlie's cafe immediately stand up and scatter for safety as the cafe itself is right on the path where the beast is heading. Cars waiting on the three-way intersection are quickly abandoned by their passengers and drivers. In short, panic and discord quickly spread everywhere. With Charlie being the only one still sitting down, frozen at the sight.
With a calming sigh, she stands up from her seat as she holds her purse tight. As her half lidded eyes reflect the sunset of the horizon, she walks out of the cafe to the sidewalk, moving out of the beast's way as the ground beneath her trembles.
She walks along with her eyes locked onto the approaching abomination, but as she widen her eyes, she bumps onto another figure.
"Huh? Charlie?" The grumpy, brass voice of a certain lizard echoes into her ears as his scaly tail rubs onto her legs.
"Niz? What are you doing here?" She looks up softly at his inhuman eyes as they blink twice at hers.
"Um, hello? Isn't that obvious? There's a giant dog on the loose!" He points at the incoming beast as he raises an eyebrow at her.
"Oh yeah, right."
"'Right'? What do you mean 'right'?? Look old hag, you have to get out of the way, or else you'll get hurt!"
"Tch... I told you to stop calling me that! Besides, that Cerberus is not even-"
Before she could finish, Niz lunges forward, pushing her together with him.
Just then, the cerberus lunges past them, onto the cafe Charlie just walked out of, bursting it to just smoke and rubbles.
Opening her eyes, Charlie found herself still lying in Niz's hands, finding him smirking arrogantly.
"Hello there, spoiled princ- UKH!"
A slap is quick to cancel his insult.
"Wha!? I just saved your ass you dumb bitch!"
Charlie only pouts her lips, huffing as she stands up, looking away from him as to not let the faint blush across her cheeks be seen.
"Hmm... Saving a random standby instead of bodyguarding your chief. Commendable. I'll cut your salary this week," A random masked woman in all black rolls towards them like a tumbleweed pushed by the wind, with her limbs and body literally contorted into a ball.
"Shut up you idiot Chief! And where the hell did you come from anyways?!"
And running just a distance on the road beside them, stand the distressed Ren and Sion who somehow survived the beast's lunge.
"Chief! Senior!" Both of them approaches the group with their unconscious passengers still held safely on Ren's back and on Sion's tail.
"Ah, you two. Can you provide some explanation regarding that?" As her body releases and stands itself from its grotesque position, the Chief casually points towards the beast, who's still recovering from the impact.
Ren's panting lips quiver as he furrows his brow, "W-Well... There's this alien lady, and-"
"Fuck that! Let's get the hell out of here first!" Sion pulls the chief's arm, only to realize that she's not even budging.
"Ah, about that. Perhaps it's better to kill it right here right now, yes?"
Ren and Sion both widen their eyes at her madness inducing words.
"Wha- No, we can't! And besides, we have to get these people back to the headquarters. They're a very important witness to the case right no-"
Sion stops his words when Faust hides her hands behind her waist. As a wave of shiver run down his spine, he notices a sudden change happening in the air around her. A change he is familiar with, yet still somewhat intimidated with.
Ren feels it too. He sees that her malevolent black aura still flows calmly and normally, but for a reason, his pupils narrow and his ears fold back when he looks at it.
"Chief..? What. The. Hell!?" Niz retorts as he forcefully carries Charlie out of the way.
Without any flinch, the doppelganger approaches the beast with stable steps. With poise and regality, a poof of white cloud manifests a silver revolver into her clenching hand. With only her gun and her swaying Harlequin twintails, she now stands in front of the wolf-like hellspawn.
"Grr..." The Cerberus groans and growls, displaying its giant teeth and razor sharp claws, while the chief simply unlocks her revolver and rotates its cylinder, before aiming it at the Cerberus's middle head.
All the others had already made it to a safe distance across the street, now left to wonder what would happen next.
From Ren's aura-seeing eyes, in his vision of deep blue sight, he sees the Chief's aura of darkness, swirling around her like a twisted tornado. It weaves itself onto her gun, writing onto it a pattern of intricate ancient symbols along its barrel.
As an invisible force of negativity lifts the dust and rubbles around her. And as the beast roars and lunges at her. She pulls the trigger.
"!!!"
In a blink of an eye, the beast explodes like a flesh filled balloon. Causing a wet splat the likes of a chronic diarrhea to echoes throughout the street as its guts splashes onto every stray debris and concrete except to the Chief herself. Thus she turns back to her peers, and bows as if she's the main cast of a theatrical opera.
Everyone still agape their eyes. Not at the Chief's 'performance', but rather, awed at how that puny little handgun could blow up a giant truck-sized beast with only one bullet.
But outside the Chief's awareness. The piles of guts and splattered blood silently float and gather themselves together in the manner of a reversed explosion, slowly binding themselves back into a swirling mass of regenerating blood and meat, without any sound or warning.
"Hey, Chief! Get the FUCK out of there!"
"Don't just stand there!"
"Look behind you!"
At those words, she tilts her head, but she turns around anyways, only to get swat away by one of its regenerating claws off to the sky to who knows where.
Oh well, there goes the chief.
"That fool! She knows that Cerberuses cannot be destroyed by conventional means right!?" Charlie nibbles her thumb as the beast aims its reforming eyes at Ren and Sion.
"Then what do you suggest we do, old hag!?"
"Uh, w-wait, let me remember..." She closes her eyes as she grabs her chin, "Firstly, they are demonic creatures hailing from the volcanic and hellish regions of Infernum, which means, if I'm not mistaken... They could only be banished by the use of something pure and holy in nature... Such as... Divine magic."
"Well do we have that!?"
"I don't know! stop asking me!"
"I know someone who does," Sion butts in behind Charlie. While Ren follows behind him, panting, now carrying both the human and the martian.
"Cerberus takes only a few minutes to regenerate back to its full form. But it should be enough time for reinforcements from headquarters to arrive..." Sion pauses as he nib the back of his index finger, "But... as of now... We need to make sure the coast is clear without any civilians in the way. So Ren, you can see people's auras right? So check the surroundings. There could be some stupid people filming this for their goddamn instagram and tiktok stories for all we know."
At his partner's order, Ren complies with a quick nod, putting the two drug dealers onto the ground before he begins to eye the surrounding buildings and streets.
His eyes turn bold, thundering and glowing. The world he sees turns monochrome vivid blue with only auras of others being the colors of his vision, while the supposedly solid buildings turn into outlines to his eyes.
Ren spots two yellow silhouettes in the cafe the beast had crashed into, with one bright being that of a child, and one that is dimming down being an adult. Thankfully, the auras of other bystanders he sees is spectating within a safe distance, either from alleyways a few blocks away, or from rooftops and the higher floors of nearby buildings.
"There's still people in that cafe!"
Hearing him, Sion bites his tongue. As the wind blows by, more and more piles of meat and blood combine themselves onto the growing mass of monstrous lumps. It already begins building its original form, its legs beginning to rise up with one head already growling, fresh with its fangs. For now, it appears as a red slug compromised out of bloodied pimples and puss with the head of a wolf and some growing stumped limbs.
"Senior, you should delay its regeneration. Just a few minutes should be enough until backup shows," Sion says, tapping Niz's shoulder.
"You mean distraction right? Well that's fuckin easy," Niz growls as his dark purple scales hardens up. The tip of his tail pulsates with vivid dark red as crystal blood begins to fill it up. Resulting in a massive, claymore-like tail that doubled its original size.
"And Ren, you should go around it! Just focus on getting those two people out!"
"Got it!"
Niz claws his limbs onto the concrete as he raises his tail up. While Ren begins to clench his muscles, charging himself with his thundering elemental magic.
And before they charge towards what people with common sense calls; suicide. Charlie steps forward with a clenched brow, saying with a low tone.
"Ren, I've read somewhere that Cerberus are sensitive to magic. So, please... Don't be a smart ass and just keep a safe distance. Just focus on saving those people got it?"
"Don't worry Charls, I know what I'm doing," Ren says with a reassuring smile.
"And Niz... Please... Don't get carried away."
"Tch... Well that seems more like an insult," Niz gives her the side eyes.
At that, Charlie purses her lips as she snorts, "Look. Point is... Don't die, you guys..."
As Charlie steps aside, both Ren and Niz look at each other with a smirk. And as the cerberus glares its regenerating eyes, their planless plan begins.
Using his tail as a propeller, Niz dashes towards the regenerating torso of the beast before he lunges upwards. With him still in mid-air, myriads of spiked tentacles emerge from the beast's now regenerated spinal cord, targeting him like scattering homing missiles. As the wind messes with his blonde locks, he only smirks before he spins like a pinwheel as gravity pulls him onto the beast, his rotating tail cutting through its regenerating back and tentacles.
As blood splatters across his clothes and face, he lands on all four on top of the clean, labia-like cut he just made. And when he looks down, he smiles to himself, "HELL, FUCK YEAH!" Now on its yet again regenerating back, with his claws strengthened by the same blood within his tail, he begins a barrage of ravaging scoops of the beast's meat as if he's standing on a hill of watermelon sorbet.
The cerberus' growl of pain doesn't budge Niz one bit, being more of a motivation even. Though just like Charlie said, he got too carried away.
"My god... Is he really playing play-doh with it right now?" On the sideline, Charlie murmurs, while Sion feels a bit of his lunch coming back to his throat.
Ren takes the opportunity with an immediate lightning imbued dash into the destroyed cafe. Though once he enters through the front door, he pants and falls to his knees. His lightning magic sure cost a lot of his energy, but that doesn't stop him from looking around the crumbled rubbles of the cafe.
"Mommy! Mommy!" The voice of a little girl rings through his ears. It comes from behind a pile of rubble just right beside the barely destroyed barista table.
Huffing, he runs towards it to find a woman stuck under a wall with her daughter crying infront of her.
"Marcy... Don't worry... Just run, mommy can take care of herself..." The mom gently and weakly says, trying to reach for her daughter, though to no avail.
"No! No! No! I don't wanna!" The girl cries. As she tries to lift the rubble up, though she squeaks and falls to her butt the moment she hears some hasty footsteps coming from behind her.
"Ssh, it's okay, I'm here to save mommy yeah?" Ren approaches with a gentle smile, finding his own reflection in the girl's big eyes, "But to do that, I need your help too okay?" Smiling as he grabs her shoulders, he kneels beside her.
The little girl stares at him, sobbing with tears and snots running down her face, "There there... Listen to mister Knight here okay sweetie? Don't be naughty now... Or I won't make any fried rice for dinner..." The mother says with a raspy and quiet voice.
Seeing how blood slowly spreads from under the rubble, Ren clutches the edge of the rubble, giving all his strength to try and lift it up. But after some grunts and pants, he was unsuccessful. He stumbles back before he tries to lift it up again. This time with the help of his remaining magic, now channeled into his muscles and with a rough rumbling from the big debris, he succeeds, albeit with his arms shaking.
"Ugh... There... Pull her out! Now!"
The girl does as he says. With her tiny arms and with Ren's tail circling around her waist, she grabs her mother's hands as Ren pulls her back. Both grunting and huffing as they try their best.
And luckily, at the very last second, they succeed. Just before Ren drops the rubbles as he stumbles back to the floor.
"Mommy? Mommy wake up! Mom! Please!" The little girl cries out as the woman slowly closes her eyes, only dimly breathing.
Seeing a big wound on her stomach, he grabs the woman in a princess carry as he sways his tail to the girl.
"Here, get on my tail! I'll carry mommy! And hold on tight!"
The girl nods as she wipes her tears. Then she grabs and rides on the middle section of his tail where it is the fluffiest in terms of fur.
Reaching to his coat pocket, Ren takes out a blue pill, before humming to himself as he puts it in his mouth, "Thank god mom made me stockpile these."
As the pill opens and dissolves in his saliva, a sudden surge of energy flows within him. With that, Ren imbues his magic to himself, outlining his body blue before he does the same to the mother and daughter. Then he dashes out of the cafe, following the left road of the three-way intersection where Ren sees a crowd of citizens being kept off-limits to the danger zone by his fellow Knights.
Arriving at the bordered and protected road, he falls to his knees. As he pants with the mother still lying unconscious in his arms, the Knight guarding the border approaches.
"What is happening there? Sir, you okay?" A male crocodilian knight speaks with a heavy voice as his scaly hands help Ren up.
"I need to go back there. And this woman needs some medical attention right away... Take care of her daughter too..." Ren explains between his huffs. Handing the wounded woman to the crocodilian's arms, the latter staring at him with concern in his eyes.
"Wha... What do you mean go back there!? Clearly, you're not in the shape for combat!"
"Yes, I know. But please... Just... Take care of this woman and her daughter..."
Seeing the look of Ren's determined eyes, the crocodilian turns around, "Roger that, I'll go get her to the medic immediately," He then glances at Ren's thighs, "But, is she coming with me or not?" He adds, mentioning the little girl hiding behind Ren's legs, clutching his pants tight.
At that, Ren smiles gently as he kneels down beside her. As he curls his tail around her, he wipes off the tears that still drips down from her eyes.
"Hey... Your name's Marcy right?"
"Uhuh..."
"Look, this mister right here is gonna take care of your mommy okay? You want your mommy to be fine right?"
"Y-Yea..."
"So... Dont be afraid of him okay? He'll take good care of her."
"K-Kay..."
Little Marcy bites her nail as she looks at the crocodilian with a pair of big glassy eyes. He then takes a hold of her hand before they all turns back towards an ambulance nearby, though the little girl glance to Ren one last time, only to find him waving goodbye and smiling at her.
Seeing the family now safe in the hands of the medic, Ren sighs in relief. Now his focus changes to helping Niz 'distract' this pile of meat. He reaches into his coat pocket to pull out another pill, this is the last pill that he has. If he runs out of energy after this, he's screwed. But... Everyone says that he's more suited for the other two battle oriented agencies after all. So might as well just pop the pill and do whatever he can to help.
He once again imbues himself with his lightning before he dashes across the length of the street, arriving in front of the destroyed cafe, right behind the cerberus.
As Ren holds his ground, he glares at the beast. And as his pupils turn to thin slits, he whispers.
"First form."
"!!!"
He claps his palms together, creating a spark of lightning. Then he spread them wide, summoning a branch of vivid electricity in between them. Sparkling and cracking, it grows larger as he spreads his arms wider and wider. As the miniature lightning dances between his palm, he again whispers.
"Twig."
He claps his palms once again. Sending out spines of forked lightning that branch itself towards the cerberus.
However, with his magic being there, just like Charlie said; the beast quickly reacts just as fast. It conjures a fleshy wall, blocking the electric bolts. Jolts of tentacles then emerge from the said wall, grabbing and throwing him to the cafe behind him, slamming him to its rubbles with an immense force.
"Ren! Just stay back and attack from behind! Cover me okay!?" Niz yells, landing in front of Ren with another of his sharp cartwheels, cutting away the tentacles still attached to the fox. With splotches of blood drenching his entire uniform combined with his pair of glowing blood-shot eyes, Niz now looks more threatening than the beast itself.
"Okay okay... God... How did things escalate to this..." Ren weakly stands up as he slides the mangles of tentacles off of his uniform. Then he channels his lightning again, joining the fight alongside his lizard friend, albeit from a safe distance.
Meanwhile, watching from the sideline. Charlie widens her eyes at how much of a danger this Cerberus could pose to her two friends if the fight continues. If it keeps on regenerating without end. Then, sooner or later, surely the duo would run out of energy right? And with no signs of backup, things could only get worse from here.
"Tch... Where is this person and the backup you mentioned!? Are they even coming!?" Charlie questions Sion.
Sion has managed to keep his face straight the entire time the event goes on. Not even bothered by Charlie's concern, a random bystander in his point of view.
"Don't worry, she'll arrive soon."
And like an uninvited ghost, just as soon as Sion mentions her, a certain pink haired woman approaches from behind with her hands on her waist.
"Eh? What's happening here?" The woman, Amura, mentions as she observes the situation with her sparkling yet sinister, pink eyes.
Following and overshadowing her, a muscular man wearing the Knight uniform stands, both Sion's and Amura's height only reaching the man's shoulders. With a scar sliced from the corner of his right eye to his left cheek, the man stares at Sion with a pair of bored golden eyes that have blackness as their scleras. His skin is of a dark yet pale brown tone. While his combed hair is grayish black with a pair of ram horns attached to the sides of his head.
"You guys... Really have to be late for everything huh?" Sion grumbles to both of them.
"Sorry~ We had to chase down some drug smugglers first," Amura smiles as her eyes shoot up at the ongoing battle, "So anyways... What are we looking at here exactly?"
At that, Sion furrows his brow as a nerve jolts at his forehead, "Tch, what are you? Blind or just stupid? Use your magic to deal with that Cerberus! That's the only thing you're good at. Right?"
"Hmm is that so?" Amura brushes her pink hair and lets it blow with the wind as she taps the morningstar symbol on her forehead with a middle finger, "Well then, allow me~" both of the men roll their eyes.
As the battle in front of her continues, she steps right into the street, approaching the growing mass of dog with the ram-horned man following behind her.
With each of her steps, clean and pure harp-like snares echoes throughout the street. As the tip of her pink hair starts to glow dim white, a shining and sharp spiral horn slowly rises from the morningstar symbol embedded to her forehead, revealing her true unicorn biology.
"Kai darling~ remove the two little rats fighting there will ya? Sadly, I'm not allowed to evaporate them. They'll be mad at me if I do," She says with a giddy smile as she glances at the ram-horned man.
With that, Sion agape his eyes at him.
"Did you just say 'Darling'!? You two are dating!? You. A demon. With her!?"
"Huh..? What do you mean? I thought it was pretty obvious..." The tall ram man, Kai says with a deep, unmotivated voice.
"..." Silence is Sion's only option.
"Hello~ I'm not gonna wait forever you know~"
"Tch... Coming..." Her (alleged) boyfriend sighs as he walks forward.
"Hmm... I guess you can commend them for keeping the cerberus busy for this long," Amura raises her chin as she observes the kitsune and the draconic, both still zapping and slicing the beast's endless regeneration.
And noticing how they both pants and start to slow down, Amura smirks, "But well, now, it is my time to shine," She glances at Kai, "Right darling?"
Lightning and claymore tail both keep on getting blocked by the regenerating and swirling mass of meat. Still truly unharmed by the attacks it endured.
Panting as he continues to flash and dodge the cerberus' tentacles, Ren's vision slowly turns blurry. It keeps on blipping between the monochromatic blues of his aura vision and his normal sight. Overcharged by his magic, he slowly begins to sway his body to the wind as the result of his trembling legs. Just as he's about to send out another bolt of lightning, a pebble trips his feet, thus a growling head of a wolf emerges from the blob of flesh, gaping its mouth as it extends its neck towards its prey.
"REN!" Niz and Charlie both yell in unison.
"!!!"
A metallic impact ripples as a gust of wind follows. When Charlie opens her eyes, there stands Kai keeping the cerberus' jaws agape with his bare palms. As it constantly trembles, trying to bite down, Kai spares a sharp glance at Niz.
Acknowledging his signal, Niz propels himself above its extended head. He performs a barrel roll mid air, cutting its elongated neck clean with his tail.
Once its weeping head flails liveless onto the ground, Kai lifts Ren up before dashing back to where Sion and Charlie are, Niz following soon after.
The unicorn smirks as her leather shoes step ever so casually towards the wriggly piles of living flesh. As her hands hide themselves behind her waist, she turns her steps to playful skips.
The cerberus regenerates its clawed limbs and tentacles, targeting the woman. Only for them to vanish and crumble like dust inches before they impact her.
As a whoosh of wind shoots through the street, a magic circle of light flowing with ancient patterns and runes appears on the ground below the cerberus and Amura. It agape its bloodied eyes as the circle grows bigger and bigger while a white energy shoots out of Amura's horn, forming a small dot of light above the beast.
She smirks as she brushes her fingers with each other. As a frozen lake-like chimes begins to echo across the street, she floats up in the air, carrying some debris and dust around her while reflective and faint crystal-like structures begin to circle around her.
With a sinisterly wide smile, she spreads her arms, as the cleansing rite begins.
"Oh, The Ruler Of Twilight. Grant me your permission to borrow your power."
After she speaks with voice the likes of thundering waves of tsunami, a flash of white light falls from the sky onto her horns, the light circle itself around her, forming a crystal-like aura that reflects light into the colors of pink, magenta, and purple.
Closing her eyes as the light of heaven flows through her veins, Amura stares at the sky and smiles before stiffly averting her glowing pink eyes onto the beast.
"Galdero Mrye Von Cerberus. For the crimes you've committed. The Twillight has hereby sentence you to a wave of repeated, painful, deaths. In the hand of the holy Twilight shall you condemn your sins. And in eternal torture shall you repent them."
After she chants with the same thundering voice. The cerberus let out a puppy-like squeal, though Its voice is still demonic and raspy.
"W-Wait!! I'm forced to do this! My master would've killed me otherwise! So please!" It talks, causing all eyes but hers to agape.
And with the mention of this so-called master of the beast. Sion immediately raises his voice, "Wait! Don't smite it! We need that information!" He yells, though his voice would only reflect back at him as if he's screaming in a room full of mirrors.
"The Holy Twilight knows no wrong. Your crimes have met its judgments, that you are to be condemned to an endless suffering forever and forever... Alone... Without any hope of ever escaping..." She tilts her head with her eyes smiling, "Hmm... Now, that sounds fun... Doesn't it?"
"Wait! Please! I will-"
"!!!"
A blinding beam of rainbow light crashes upon the demon beast together with an ear-muting shrill. A hiss echoes as the light thins out and disappears, leaving a charred pile of blood, coal and smoke.
But as people thought it finishes, the beam strikes again.
"!!!"
And again.
"!!!"
And again.
"!!!"
And again.
Accompanied by rounds of hysterical laughter. Coming from the unicorn herself.
Perhaps, this is why the first branch are all terrified of her.
-----
-----
As classical music plays in the office of the first branch, a certain parasite demon hums to himself, holding a chess pawn with its jaw while a fox furrows his brow at the board. He leans his cheeks onto his palm as he sits on the chair opposite to the demon while the demon's petite vessel only stares at his fluffy, wiggling tail.
Sitting on the sofa beside them, a merman curses repeatedly with a PlayStation 12 controller in his hand. Beside him, a scorpion brood stares emptily at the TV while his fingers rapidly press one button of his controller. While a certain sasquatch-like beast observes the duo with an unhinged smile, though his ragged lock hides it completely from view.
While sitting on the table beside the windows, a pair of unlikely lovebirds, a unicorn and a ram-like demon giddily smiles at the manga in their hands, giggling and tapping their feet at the floor as they slide its pages.
Ah, just the usual atmosphere of the first branch's office.
It's been two days ever since that battle with the cerberus. And within those two days, Ren got a day off due to mana exhaustion while Amura got a one day suspension, which she probably enjoyed.
And also, the whole case? The thing that started all of this? The Chief solved it by herself without any of her members knowing.
With two of the drug dealers caught. The Chief seemed to have successfully 'interrogated' them enough to gain some lead. Thus resulting in her discovery that an alien organization was the perpetrators. Though most of its members already escaped earth while carrying some numbers of the drugs, some of the restaurants affiliated with the cartel were forcefully shut down. The employees who were found to be involved were incarcerated and sent back to their home planets too.
And with all the remaining criminals already leaving earth. The rest of the work was given to their own planet's accordance. Since then, they are no longer the first branch's business.
And now, with the case closed. They all could just relax... Play games... And sleep all they want.
Right?
"..."
"..."
"!!!"
A hard thud to the floor bursts through the office, all eyes fix themselves onto the Chief, who's face is planted onto the floor alongside some dust and a ceiling plate beside her.
"Ding ding ding," Still in that position, the Chief rhymes her silver bell, "The meeting will now come to order," A stiff, putrid voice follows.
"Ugh..." Everyone grunts in unison.
"God... What now Chief??"
"Hmm... Let's see..." Facing her face forward, she opens a notebook, tapping her pen onto its page, "Here we have a group of human supremacist activists causing havoc on the streets. A missing pet pyro elemental. And an alleged cult kidnapping children on the cityside."
"And oh, the murder of a staryophagi. Nicknamed; Vaj."
