34- My Beloved
"There's an old saying on this Island..."
"Those who desire hate. Must give love."
"Those who desire love. Must give hate."
"Then... She will bestow you your greatest wish."
----
"Yuzuki!" Her voice calls through the night, as she makes her way through the glowing forest, her light steps thumping the ground. Under the tree's leaves are glowing blue veins, the flowers above lighting up in a myriads of colors, each steps she takes rustle the purple bushes, causing fireflies resting under it to scatter away.
"Kazami... W-Wait!" A young boy, petite and fragile trails behind her. He uses the trees to support his footing, as his every moves cause his breath to exhale.
"C'mon! Hurry up! Don't be a slowpoke!" The girl teases, her wavy black hair flowing with the wind as she continues her steps up a hill.
"Wait! I said wait!" He cries out again, as he continues to scratch his fingers against the tree barks.
Eventually, the boy reaches the top of a forest's hill. He walks out of the glowing woods, his shoes meeting with the purple blade of grass that covers the hill. On its edge, he sees the girl, in her preppy white dress, sitting down on the grass.
He joins her quickly, swiping his grassy spot before sitting down. Looking forward, he sees the city in its majestic glory. Towering buildings of modernity stand by one another, layers upon layers of star-like lights flicker on and off, continuously without any end.
Then he looks to his left. The girl is holding something in her hand whilst she stares at the city.
"What is that?" He points to her clutched hands.
She then opens them. In her hands is a black spyglass-looking thing. It is iridescent with butterfly motives spread throughout its rod, "A Kaleidoscope. My grandma gave it to me yesterday," She answers.
The boy's eyes sparkle with curiosity as he leans towards the object, "Cool! It's one of those things that shows those patterns right?"
"Yea. But this one is a little different!" She says with a smile, before offering it to him, "Wanna try for yourself?"
The young boy accepts her offer. With genuine curiosity, he puts the scope to its use. His mouth quickly forms a bewildered wow. As he scours his scope throughout the night city, where each light becomes different colors of enigmatic rainbows. As the sky turns into a disco floor, where he could see tiny, floating bubbles of magic, each containing a little spark of light within them.
"This is... This is amazing!" He says as he takes it off and holds it in his hands. He then turns to the girl, giving her his most grateful smile.
"I know right!" She cheers, then humming, "Grandma said that it's actually an ancient artifacts used by the Faes to find homelands rich of magic. Like this Island! Grandma actually said that she found that kaleidoscope herself! Pretty cool, right?"
"Wow... An artifact? That's so cool!" His mind then goes up to cloud-nine, his imagination prevalent, "Someday... I wanna be like her. I wanna find my own artifact and name it after..." After a little pause, the boy brightens, "After you!"
"Huh? What do you mean? That's so stupid!" Kazami jokingly nudges.
"What do you mean 'stupid'? Just imagine... If there's like... A necklace with beautiful gem hiding under a rock, I would name those gems... Kazaminium..."
"Pfft..." She chuckles, holding her stomach in place, "Kazaminium?"
"Yea! It has a nice ring to it, right?"
"Heheh... Yeah. I guess so."
A little moment of silence passes. The boy uses the kaleidoscope here and there, but the silence overtakes his enthusiasm. Thus, in his mind, a question grows.
"Kazami... You're gonna... Stay here, right?"
To that, she lower her gaze and whispers, "I... I'm not sure. My parents... I don't think they'll let me stay with grandma for too long."
"Stay at my orphanage then! You'll have lots of friends! Lots of toys too!" Immediately, Yuzuki takes Kazami's hands, prompting their eyes to meet, "Just please... Can't you stay here?"
"Yuzuki... I don't think I can..." Kazami gently releases herself then she adds, "But... Don't worry. We can still message each other right? If not, I'll send you lots and lots of letters!"
"But... It's not the same... It's not the same with you really being here..."
"Then... I'll make a promise!"
"Hmm?"
"You can have the kaleidoscope. And when I get back here again, you can give it back to me," She smiles, the kindest one she has, "That's a promise! Okay?"
"..." Yet, Yuzuki only answers with mumbles. Not a single word uttered from his unsure lips.
"Hmm?"
"..." He keeps his lips tightened. As he looks down, frowning, staring daggers at nothing.
"Yuzuki..?"
"..."
"..."
"..."
"Yuzu...ki?"
"Kazami!" He jolts his head up, seeing the love of his life still lying emotionless on her bed, unresponsive of his call. He looks around, seeing himself not in that memory anymore, but rather in her large and luxurious bedroom.
He then turns to his wife again, his eyes writhing in disbelief, "I don't understand... Why... Why didn't it work?" He gently caresses her cheeks, feeling the coldness of her skin, "I followed all the steps... But why... Why hasn't she woken up yet!?"
"I still cannot believe you're this desperate for a woman that has been in a mental coma for however years it is," From the corner of the room, a snobby male voice echoes, coming from the corner of the room, "Don't throw a temper tantrum now. The least you could do is to calm down a little."
Yuzuki turns around, spreading his bat-wings wide and raising his scorpion tail as he glares at the blonde, pink-eyed man smirking in his bedazzled suit, "Then, Tell me... Kristof... Why... WHY hasn't she woken up!?"
The pale, blonde man, Kristof keeps his smirk, only sighing to himself, "Based on what I recall... It definitely worked," Then his words snap, "Just... It seems like the ritual has hit a different target."
To that, the Manticore calms himself down, covering his mouth with his fist.
"Are you aware that... She's gone?" Kristof adds, his sunset-pink eyes glaring as if they're glowing, "Her pod has opened. And the last of its recorded readings shows a rather peculiar spike of heartbeat.
Yuzuki puts a finger onto his chin, his wings slightly flapping, "I... I see..." With a calming sigh, he continues, "Then... Maybe fate is trying to do things differently..."
He turns to his wife, the unrelenting kindness in his eyes apparent, as they are opened wide with his brow furrowed, an unsure smile being his cherry on top, "You have to sleep a little bit longer... Kazami..." His voice comes out raspy, yet it's filled with hope. Then with his gentle touch, he brings his wife to his arms and whisper to her ears, "Don't worry, honey... I'll make us family again."

If tension could kill, Azayaka would be dead by now.
She now sits infront of the woman who had tried to kill her. And that woman is smirking, her yellow eyes smiling towards Azayaka'd timid purples. Sitting beside her is Sion and Kao, both glaring daggers towards Velion, the lesser demon sitting beside Elianna. He is smirking unapologetically as he leans his head on his palm, his legs raised onto the coffee table.
In between the two sides is the good-ol' Chief, Faust. She has her hands behind her back as she sits straight, her empty stare moderating the soon-would-be argument.
Silence is the only thing in the air. Well... Beside the muffled grunt coming from behind Azayaka, from Yuu, now tied to a pole as he's being apparently roasted by the smirking Unicorn, her giant, Demon boyfriend only watching from the sideline with a certain Draconic beside him. Udin and the Siblings are there too, now playing poker againts each other beside the roasting of the Fallen Archangel.
"If no one wants to start... I suppose I will," And so the Chief do as she says, crossing her legs as she leans her head back, "Why am I needed here? Is it such an urgency that my perfect vacation to Venus has to be cancelled?"
"It is an urgency. An urgency revolving a murderous bastard," Elianna immediately answers as she points her glare towards Azayaka, not minding her own hypocrisy.
And so, Azayaka shakes her head back and retorts, "Wha-!? You-"
"I guess that can't be helped then. Oh well, as a penalty for letting this happen to my vacation, I'll be cutting all of yours paychecks this month," Faust interjects with a palm up in the air. Luckily, only the two roommates sitting in front of her heard her words.
"I don't care if you decides to do that, Chief," Sion joins, his tone begrudgingly upset as he stares daggers at his temporary boss and his ex, "Just know that this woman, and... That. They're the ones that are deserving of prison."
"Oh, much more deserving than the assassin who've murdered countless of innocent people?" Elianna chuckles, "Call it old. But it's a reminder that you shouldn't forget."
Before Sion could retort, another voice responds from behind him, "Atleast her reasons are better than being a fucking greedy-ass floating head!" Yuu yells from his heightened position, his muffled mouth already spitting out its cog, "You could boast about not killing all you want! But that doesn't make what you did any better than us!"
The rest of the room look up at the grilled bird, some are trying to hold back their laughter, some are unsure of what to think, but Azayaka could only give her soft eyes at him. In which he lowers his head and furrows his brow to.
"Aw... Still angry about that?" Elianna mocks, "You should've seen the look on your face when you begged her to protect you."
As the other members of the first branch listen with contempt silence, Yuu grits his teeth and glares at the Krasue.
"Ah! There it is! There's that face again!"
"The meeting will now come to order!" Faust yells her radio-like voice, giving all attention to her, "I understand what happened must've been... Inconvenient, for some of you. But just get to the point."
To that, Azayaka sighs and begins her words, "Basically I... I escaped from the Knights, you could say. Then, she fucking came out of me and attacked me and Yuu. She wanted to... Sell us both to the Mor' black market, and-"
"How about we dwelve in a more positive matter of the topic?" Elianna intrudes with a relaxed tone, "In all technicalities... I did help with this whole Wings fiasco, didn't I?"
To that, Faust perks her mask.
"Think about it. If I didn't cast my curse onto her, then I wouldn't found out about the Wing's possible whereabouts. When I first heard of it, she's just as shocked as I was. And so was he."
"Oh? And where could that be?" Faust intrigues further.
"The two small islands near Sylvae. A pretty fifty-fifty chance. I did a bit of research, and it seems like something is curious about these islands."
"Care to explain then?" The conversation soon shifts to only their discussion.
"Statistics and data shows that these Islands hasn't been lived in by permanent residents for the last thirty years. But still, they're quite the popular tourist destinations. As shown by the Auroras that often appear on the sky above them, and their luxurious white-sand beaches."
"Your point?"
"Auroras do not appear at the equator, no? And these islands are the only location where they appear, an exception from the whole entirety of Sylvae. Strange, isn't it?"
"I see. Well, glad to know that you're not entirely useless."
"Aw, I'm flattered."
"I guess now that my vacation has been cancelled, I declare I would start working on the case again," Faust stands up, her hands held behind her waist.
"Pfft, how? You are still suspended," Elianna smirks.
"Do you think the Overseers care?"
To that, Eliana rolls her eyes, "I guess you're right on that one."
"Then, I'll be trusting you with taking care of this agency while the first branch is gone."
Sion curves his eyebrows and stands up, "Wait... What do you mean by that?"
"Call it another vacation if you will. But the best course of action now is to investigate these islands myself."
The Demon listening from the sideline, Kai catches her words and asks, "Wait... So, Chief, You're telling us..."
"You're gonna bring us on a vacation!? To a tropical island!?" Udin, Amura and the siblings all say in unison.
"Yes, I suppose. But, Niz, you stay here. Tell Kathy to watch these two for me."
Niz keeps himself silent for a moment, his lips pursing in unsureness, "Oh well, if you say so, Chief," Niz sighs.
"If we're done here, I'm gonna take my leave," Elianna hums as she stands up and approaches the door, passing by the Archangel, still tied to the pole, "I haven't eaten anything since last night. Pity there's nothing that could match that Archangel's taste."
To that, Yuu and Azayaka could only answer with their glares.
"Wait, so they both are gonna be just fine!? There's nothing coming to them!?" Sion complains to the Chief.
"Try reporting them to the main administration yourself. I won't even bother doing that," The Chief answers simply.
Sion etches his tongue in bitterness. Then he feels the Lesser Demon's hot breath behind his neck, "Hope you enjoy your little trip, Sion. Just be careful not to get your friends fucked over like before."
"Back off dude. Quit bothering him," Kao grabs the Demon and pulls him away by his shoulder.
"Ah yes... The Sharkboy. How's that wound going, dear roommate?" Veli leans to Kao, his eyes agape as they look down to the bandaged wound he caused, "Don't take this the wrong way, but... I do apologize for that," His 'sorry' is the most ingenuine sorry ever spoken in civilization.
"Phuh," Kao launches a spit to Velion's face.
"I see," Velion keeps his smile. His eyes twitching as he wipes his face, "Well, best of luck to all of you," He then poofs away with a small explosion of black smoke.
"Okay, everyone," The Chief claps a loud one, garnering everyone's attention, "Prepare yourselves. We're leaving at dawn."
"Wait... As in... Today?" Azayaka questions.
"Of course. What else?"
