31- Coincidence? I Think Not!
In his bed, Kao stares into his phone as he lifts it up, his thumb positioned at each corner of it as he plays one of the most hit game in this year.
"Let's explore that area later!" A squeaky, annoying voice of a mascot says, coming from Kao's game. Kao could only stares solemnly as that mascot continues with her maddening voice, "Let's explore that area later!"
"God, shut up. You little shit," Kao trashtalks as if that fictional video game character could hear.
As he continues with his mind-numbing, brain-rotting gameplay, a sudden noise pulls him back to reality.
"Clank!" It comes from outside his room.
"Ugh... What the fuck is that guy doing..?" He complains with a groan. When Sion is out in the wild, in the middle of the night, it's usually to cook. So, a little bite before bed won't hurt. For some reason, Kao's stomach already rumbled again even after that feast Sion made. So, groaning as he lifts himself up from his bed, he makes his way towards the door and opens it.
"You still want to fuck me!? Huh!?" Sion's voice echoes from the living room.
'What the fu-' Out of context is what it is. So Kao pulls his eyebrow together in concern, then peaks from behind his door.
Sion is there, talking to that new demon guy who's smirking with nothing but joy in him, his tail wiggling in what could only be excitement.
Hold on, is this what Kao think it is? Are they... Gonna... Do that? Right here, right now!?
"And just so you know. You'll always be mine. And I won't let anything of mine be taken away."
Kao could only hear a fraction of the demon's whispers. As such, many assumptions are assuming. But Kao could only think of one word, 'What..?'
"Speaking of... Bet boss is having fun right now... Better go and join then, right?"
'Are they... Leaving?' Subconsciously, Kao balls up his fist then opens it again, revealing a thin, glowing thread connected to a needle, both made of water only visible to his own eyes, 'No, that guy's not right! I can't let Sion be alone with him!' He throws that needle towards Sion, it latching onto the back of Sion's neck.
But just as Kao is about to pull him back, both of them already poof out of existence.
"What in the actual fuck!?"
-----
A duet of an aquamarine trident with a scythe made out of the abyss's dark fog. Kao and Velion spin and flicker their polearms around in a mezmerizing dance, both skillful and graceful, letting them impact each other, letting them create their harmonized clanks.
When Kao thrusts the triple headed end of his trident, Veli would spin his scythe around as he holds the middle of its pole, faltering Kao's strike.
When Velion teleports behind Kao, brandishing his scythe in a big slice towards the latter. Kao would use the pole of his trident as a shield, strengthening it with his Thallasenian magic that could block even the harshes of strikes.
As the duet of death between two men rages on. Sion watches from the sideline. Had he brings his guns with him, a semblance of usefulness might show itself within him, but now, all he could do is just to keep his eyes agape, powerless to do anything.
"Kao..." Sion mumbles, clutching his hands onto the concrete roof. As the sharkman continues his battle, all Sion do is to stare at his rage-filled face. And all he could ask is...
Why?
Why indeed. Why would he do all of this? Just for someone who treated him like shit?
"Sion! Watch it!" Kao's voice pulls him back to reality. Towards him, the demon's scythe goes, flying, spinning in the air. But before the impact hits, Velion poofs beside him, stopping the scythe inches before it could cut and then stomping onto his stinger and keeping it still.
"Akh!" Sion grunts, lurching himself slightly forward. Luckily though, the scythe's blade only touches his throat, though not backing away, not even a slightest inch.
"Calm down now. Or else, you'll know what happen," Veli's words are directed towards Kao, who now stands frozen in front of him, "I would like to know you better, now that we're here... Kao? Right?"
Kao only puts himself in a prepatory battle stance, gritting his teeth and furrowing his brow.
Smirking, the demon continues, "You called me... 'A massive red flag'," He tilts his head, his curiosity apparent, "Why?"
"Bitch, Isn't it obvious!?" Kao finally let his emotions take over, "Look at what you're doing right now!" His grip to his trident grows even tighter, "What the fuck is wrong with you!?"
"Hmm? I'm only doing what everyone does. Taking what's mine," Veli says with a genuine smile.
"Haaaaahhhhhh???" Kao's confusion momentarily washes over his anger.
"Back at my home... At Infernum. Everything is hard to get," His voice quiets down for a moment, "Food, clothes, homes... Your loved ones... Their souls... Everything. So simply, we're taught to keep our things safe," A glance comes Sion's way, a softer gaze decorating the demon's eyes, "And we're told to get back what we lost."
"So when you can't do that, you just force it then!? Oh suureee, that won't cause any trouble at all," Kao immediately retorts.
The demon huffs, giving the sharkman a little smirk, "How bout... Taking the topic elsewhere?"
Kao slightly parts his lips, but keeps his vision focused.
"From what I observed, you're nothing but scum in Sion's eyes," Velion mentions, "So why would you go to this length... To take him away from me?"
"What the fuck do you even mean!?" Kao stomps the floor as his hands clutch into hardened fists, "Sion... Sion is my dear friend! Even when I am all tied up in every inch of this world's bullshit... He's been there for me... Even when I couldn't even give back anything to him... Still... He doesn't throw me away!"
Sion's lips slowly part, bewildered by his friend's resolution, "Kao..."
"And lastly... He makes me Gordon Ramsay-grade food!" Kao's eyes spark with determination, almost rivaling the darkness in the demon's eyes, "Isn't that telling enough!?"
At that last part, Sion widens his eyes, even more bewildered.
"Then, what rights do you have? Trying to take him away from me?"
At the demon's threatening glare, Kao takes a step back, "What the... What the hell is wrong with you, man!?"
"Hah," The demon leans his head back, staring at the sky, "I should be the one asking you that... Y'know?"
Kao spins his trident around, entering a combat-ready stance, "You're... You're beyond help..."
Their words finish completely, transitioning into rounds of glares. Kao pushes his back leg further, in preparation to release himself from his stance.
"That just adds more reasons for me to get rid of you," Veli returns his glare, now mocking and condescending.
"Aaaaakh!" A female scream distracts all three of them from each other.
A rooftop away, the Krasue, Eliana is floating higher and higher, carrying with her a certain dark fae, her neck wrapped in the decapitated head's entrail.
Azayaka tries to set herself free, pulling and punching the bloody organ to no avail. Only successing in making her captor laughts.
"Ah... What an adorable display you're putting..." Eliana giggles, caressing Azayaka's cheek with her elongated tongue, "Sweet, just like what I imagined your kind would taste like."
"Akh- Ah! L-Let go... Of me!" Her air choked out minute by minute, Azayaka continues to struggle only to gain rounds of more giggles.
"You are quite the feisty one, huh?" Eliana whispers, "But sadly... I'm not here for you today," She looks at the Fallen Archangel, still asphyxiated, useless on the roof, "Look at him... How cute he looks..." Her golden eyes goes back to Azayaka, "You know he's broken beyond repair, right?"
To those words, Azayaka grits her teeth and manages to scatters her body into a swarm of purple butterflies that soon fly around the Krasue like a mezmerizing, iridescent tornado.
Eliana looks around her, indeed fascinated, "Beautiful... Is this the power of a Dark Fae?"
That swarm of butterflies then divide themselves into four groups, each floating symmetrically opposite towards each other's direction, surrounding the Krasue completely. Those groups then each merge themselves into four Azayakas, fluttering their dragonfly-like wings.
"Seeing how fascinating you truly are... You'll make a fine candidate for Mor's slave market!" Eliana swings her entrails' Keris in a circular manner, reaching and slicing through each and every of the clone's distance.
All of them disperse back to a swarm of butterflies, leaving no Azayaka intact.
Except for the one diving from above the Krasue's head.
Without any sound, Azayaka swings a huge brick into the Krasue's skull just as she looks above, causing her to propel down onto the rooftop.
Azayaka gracefully lands beside the stunned Krasue, stepping on her guts as she picks the decapitated head up, meeting her glare with the latter's trance.
"Uh-oh... It seems like... Boss needs my help," With the shark and scorpion still distracted, Veli teleports to the roof's edge, analysing the sight.
Seeing the demon has his back against his enemy, Kao immediately lunges towards him, lifting his triden like a javelin.
But instead, the demon teleports behind him. He then is met with the curved blade of the demon's scythe, now stabbing through his guts.
"K-Kao!!!" Sion yells.
"You think I'm that stupid?" To Kao's sharp ear, Velion whispers as he pulls back his scythe. As the former drops his trident, it splashing into mere water on contact with the rooftop, blood starts to drip down, both from his wound and from his mouth. He presses his hands onto it as he falls onto his knee, eyes trembling and widened.
"That's what you get for underestimating me..." Velion steps past the mortally wounded sharkman, approaching the roof's edge. He gives the sight behind his back one last glance. Sion is now craddling the sharkman in his arms, tensely staring at him as the latter's eyes weakens more and more. Furious curses could be heard, directed towards Velion, though they are mixed with soft voices of, "Kao... You'll be okay... You'll be okay..."
With a bitter aftertaste, Velion snaps his attention back to his front, towards the sight of the Butterfly Phantasm continuously stepping onto his boss's head, though she laughs maniacally in regards of her pain.
"AHAHAH! YES! STEP ON ME SOME MORE! AHAH!" As said, the Krasue laughs as she accepts the gifts she has bestowed upon. Her words coming out in rhythm with the Dark Fae's combat boot's steps.
"Tch... Why can't you just DIE-"
To the sound of the wind whistling coming from behind her, Azayaka jumps up, dodging a near deadly strike of a demon's scythe.
She lands a distance behind the demon wielding that scythe, the same demon she saw during the Knight's party, Sion's ex.
"You... What are you..?" Azayaka's confusion overtakes her anger as she stares with a furrowed brow.
Velion answers with silence, as the Krasue rises up, giving her a smirk, "Isn't it obvious?" She redirects her smirk over towards the demon, "The fun is over. So, he's gonna wrap up the party for me," Then her smirk goes forward past Azayaka, towards the Archangel, now starting to rise up and opening his wings.
A little second after her words, the demon disappears into a trace of black smoke. Azayaka immediately looks behind, seeing the demon now standing infront of the Archangel.
Before she could react, Eliana tangles her entrails around every of her limbs, before pulling her back to her side.
"No, no..." She tightens her grip, in preparation if the Dark Fae ever decides turn into butterflies, "You stay still. And watch."
"You... Stay the fuck away from me," Yuu coldly dismisses the approaching demon, who's smiling an unnerving one as the scythe he holds disappears into a trace of black fog.
Gritting his teeth, Yuu prepares his wings, then immediately lunges forward, swinging his wings with an x motion towards the demon.
The demon only smirks as he points his tail forward. From its tip, now glowing crimson, a glyph displaying a reverse pentagram appears, causing Yuu to widen his eyes.
From that glyph, trails of black smoke surrounds the Archangel, encasing his wings and limbs as they creates a circular cage, where those smoke forcefully spread his wings and limbs apart, prompting a pained grunt.
"Yuu..." Azayaka widens her eyes as some of her skin tries and tries to seperate from her body, only to be pulled back to her suffocated skin.
Entertained, Eliana lets out a giggle as she tighten her grip, "Just preparing a cage for our new little bird..." Eliana sees her catch, now ready to be transported, "We don't want him to immediately fly off the moment we take him, don't w-"
"!!!" A powerful impact of a random brick hits her right on her face, causing her to release her entrails from Azayaka.
Azayaka widens her eyes. In a split of a second, she looks around, seeing a shirtless Sion holding his hands out past the roof's ledge, seemingly a position after he threw an insanely accurate throw with a brick from a different building.
Saving her bewilderment for later, Azayaka retains her focus towards the sight infront of her, towards the demon who still has his back against her.
A perfect scenario.
Feeling a presence coming from behind him, Velion turns around. Only to meet the mere air. But when he turns back, Azayaka takes grip of his horn before she pulls his head down as her knee rises up.
A backflip kick to the demon's chin commences, causing him to be thrown up into the air, roughly landing on the back of his neck onto the hard concrete.
But at the same time, that kick causes the demon's glyph to disappear. Thus the black smoke caging Yuu suddenly disappears with an explosion of force, causing its inhabitant to be thrown away from the rooftop off to the distant sight of the Central City, to who knows where with a speed rivaling that of a lightning.
"NO!" The Krasue immediately lifts herself up, "He is MINE!!!" Then she flies after the Archangel.
Azayaka prepares her wings to follow her, but she stops to a familiar scream.
"AZA!!!" From the building just beside hers, Sion yells, "PLEASE! HELP!"
Azayaka glances back and forth for a second, before cursing to herself, "Fucking... Hell!" Off her goes, flying towards the scorpion.
And the moment she arrives, she sees why he would yell like that.
Kao is there, lying on the floor with a shirt wrapped around his stomach, blood rushing through it as Sion gives it some pressure with his hands.
"W-What happened..?" Azayaka furrows her brow as she kneels beside Sion.
"That doesn't matter! Please, you have to get him to the nearest hospital!" Sion says, his sweat apparent to his panic.
Without any other words, Azayaka signals Sion to step aside. She then puts her arms under Kao's back and knees. Careful to not let his wound be folded too much, she lifts him up as she flutters her wings, preparing to take off.
"W-Wait, how about you..?" She glances back towards Sion.
"Don't worry about me! I'll be fine on my own!"
She answers with a trustful nod, then she steps off the ledge of the roof, steadily flying with a gentle speed, not too fast and not too slow, her hold onto the sharkman firm and stiff to not let his wound be damaged even further.
As the gentle breeze tickles his face, his adrenaline blocking the pain from his brain, Kao opens his eyes slightly, getting a blurry vision of Azayaka's determined face.
"I... I saved Sion... Didn't I?" He says, his voice weak and raspy.
Panicked, Azayaka tries her best to form reassuring words, but she slips out a mumble of answers, "Yes..? W-Well... I don't know! But yes!"
"Hahah... Great... Now I can die happy..." Kao closes his eyes again, humming to himself.
"Wait! No! J-Just stay with me for awhile okay!?" Immediately, Azayaka finds herself yelling to him, "Y-You have to stay alive for Sion!"
"I guess... But..." His eyes narrowly open, staring past her face towards the stars, "It'll be awkward... Between us if I... Stayed alive... Right?"
"N-No... It won't be!" To his pessimistic thought, she retorts, "Just... Keep yourself together! Or else, he'll will kick you out of the house!"
To that, Kao momentarily widens his eyes, "Oh, yeah, you're right... My bad... Heh..." He lets out a snicker, "I guess if I die... I'll never get to taste his cooking again, huh..?"
"Yes! Live for his food! That's what you should do now!"
As she continues her flight, Kao sighs as he closes his eyes again, this time... with a gentle smile.
"Yeah... I guess... I'll do that."
-----
"Doctor, a merman just arrived. He is injured with a deep stab on his stomach. Should we list him on sector B or C?"
"Hmm, B. That sector doesn't have much patient right now. Get him there. An immediate procedure should be done with a stab wound that big."
"Of course, doc."
Those words relief Azayaka, who is now staring through a window of the hospital's main lobby. She sees Kao, now lying on a stretcher surrounded by lots of medical staffs, now ready to take him to their care.
Azayaka sighs as they stroll him away to the back of a corner where she couldn't see through the window pane anymore.
Humming, she turns around and walks away. To the silent streets where only a car or two pass by. Now that she knows Kao's will be fine, she should be looking for Yuu right now. Sion said that he'll be okay, hopefully, the door to the stairs on that roof isn't locked, otherwise it'll be pretty awkward.
Now, she is ready to take her flight to search for Yuu. She stops her movement and stand still, staring at the sky. Her wings comes out of her waist in their fascinating fashion.
But as she begins to flutter them, a sudden pain hits her stomach, "Akh-" A sensation so strong as if her stomach is being pulled apart. She falls to her knees, weeping and panting in pain.
It's the same kind of pain that floating head has caused her. It seems... It was never gone.
"Are you... Kidding... Me..?" Her frustration is muted by her huffs. She then gathers her strengths to stand up against the building next to her, using it as a leverage as she continues her path, "No... I have to... Find Yuu..."
That pain hits again, but she bites her tongue, keeping herself silent as her sweat starts to trickle down, "Yeah... This is fine... This is fine..."
But then, she reaches the corner of the building, where the wall ends, causing her to fall to her front. She uses her arms to brace her head for the harsh impact, leaving her in a huddled position as she holds her stomach in pain.
"Tch... Why... Why..." Tears begin to peak through the corners of her eyes as she squints them shut. But still, they manages to spill through, "I... I just wanted to keep them safe... Is that... Too much to ask..?" She sniffles, rubbing her forehead against the concrete as she grunts to her pain.
Her presence seems to always bring danger to the ones she cares about. Be it her mother, Yuu, Sion or Ren. If anyone of them ever perishes because of her... What would she do? Perish with them?
She keeps herself huddled on the corner of the building, not caring whenever there's a passerby or not. They'll think that she's just drunk. Or she's someone who made a mistake and is trying to get rid of it. That is until someone particular steps in front of her, saying to her two sentences.
"You're... Azayaka? What are you... Doing here?"
To that familiar female voice, she looks up. Her pain stopping briefly.
A certain blonde female Vampire is standing tall before her, looking at her with concern in her sunset-pink eyes.
"You... Charlie..?"
-----
The road is quiet, save and sound with no passerbys in sight. Steady and fast-paced, a certain ram demon drives his black Lamborghini through the road. His golden eyes locked forward, focused onto the late night street.
"Kai, baby? Can we stop by... A Sevel? I really need to buy something..." On the demon's left, a certain pink haired unicorn sits, her pink eyes droopy and her tone snoozy as she leans onto her darling's beefy shoulder.
"You threw up three times back at that bar. I'm bringing you home, period," Kai coldly answers, not even batting an eye to the nuisance.
"Aw... Please? Pretty please? I really need to buy some cold drinks for my hangover tomorrow..."
To her insistance, Kai sighs, "Amura, it's already two AM in the morning. I don't think there's any open right now. Plus, there's some yogurt in the fridge. It'll be better for you than some other rancid stuff you wanna buy," He then yawns, his eyelids growing heavy, "And plus... I'm already really-really sleepy. Can't you think about me for once?"
"But... My Pretty Starfish Girlfriend Just released its new volume... Haven't you been waiting for that? I wanna buy some new Victor On Fire volumes too..." She tempts, further cuddling her face onto his arm.
"Wait! It's released already!?" Kai's sleepy eyes suddenly sparkle. But when Amura smirks, he pardons himself with a few coughs, "S-Still... We're going home and that's that!"
"Aw..." Amura closes her eyes for a moment, before, "Still, I don't give a fuuuuucckkkk!" She grabs both of his arms, then continuously swings them around, causing the car to go haywire, "I wanna go to a Sevel! Right now!"
"H-Hey! Quit it! What the hell are you-" Kai tries his best to maintain the steady course. Luckily, the streets are quiet and the road is empty. Leaving no one to witness the clownery happening as the dislodged, zig-zag movement of the car continues, a brief squabble taking place within it.
"Amura! Stop it! STOP IT!"
"I wanna go buy Victor On Fire! I wanna go buy Victor On Fire! I wanna-"
But eventually, their headlight shines onto a brief sight of a floating head. Kai widening his eyes as he immediately stomps the brake.
But still, the momentum doesn't stop the car.
"!!!" A loud thud commence. Then the car stops completely.
"Did... Did we just... Hit someone?" Kai mumbles, now wide awake.
"Well... You're the one driving... So..." Amura snakes away from his arms, melting herself into a putty.
"Are you fucking kidding me right now!?" He presses his palms onto the side of his head as he looks down. While Amura only whistles nonchalantly.
"Baby... You should... See... What it is-" Kai answers Amura's suggestion with a deadly glare of his golden eyes, in which Amura glances away.
After he takes some deep breath, Kai opens the driver's door and steps out, swallowing a gulp as he makes his way to the front of the car.
A few steps away from the car's trunk, lies a decapitated head with its black hair messily spread on the road. Judging from the entrails hanging from its neck, Kai immediately recognizes it as the only Krasue he knows. Thus he approaches it slowly and says to it, "Chief?"
The head then suddenly rises and floats up. It turns around to reveal a face belonging to the current Chief of The Intelligence Agency, Eliana.
Kai takes a step back and then covers his mouth for a second, before saying to it, "Oh shit... I'm so sorry. I-I didn't see, I-It was too dark... And the brakes, it-" Before he could finish his apology, the floating head, 'Eliana' snarls.
"KHAKHHHH!" It unhings its jaws to reveal rows of sharp teeth before it flies towards Kai who then clenches his fists in response.
But as he's about to counter the sudden aggression, a black feather shoots towards the head's side, stabbing through it, then pinning it onto a lamp post.
Kai immediately takes his attention towards where the feather comes from. He looks to his left, seeing a dark alleyway, a faint, wide silhouette slowly approaching the light.
Then, he widens his eyes when that silhouette finally makes themself known. The Fallen Archangel is leaning onto the wall, his wings limp as blood courses through his forehead down onto his chin. He is panting, his left arm holding onto his right that stays motionless as gravity pulls it down.
To put it simply, he is quite... In a bad shape.
"H-Help... Please..." He says, taking one last step, before finally falling to his front, now unconscious as he lies on the concrete sidewalk.
Amura steps out of the car, then to Kai's side. They both then look at each other, puzzled by the occurance.
