Trial by Fire
I fight
For what I believe is the truth
To lose would mean to prove I have no faith in myself, so
Despite the glaring lights
In spite of what others feel
I'll stand on this battlefield
My wits as my sword and shield.
At its core, I am what they saw
But for them, I've broken the unspoken law
Of proving their instincts wrong
As if the surface is the only evidence needed
To paint a picture
Of what you want to see, nevermind the hypocrisy
Nevermind the distance between the past and present me.
Never will I
Satisfy others by cutting the corners of my heart so fits the frame and
Aligns with the majority -
It'd only hurt more.
Like cards in poker
Switching hands the moments before a murder
My passion is mistaken for arrogance
My happiness, taken as stolen gold.
So I hold my cards as close as the court of society will allow
Knowing
I can't give up what I deserve
In the face of rumours and fabricated proof
That point to my crime to
When I dared to walk into the fire
And emerge on the other side
Alive
And ready to face another trial.
I wrote this poem from the perspective of my favourite character from the game "Phoenix Wright" - Prosecutor Edgeworth. As you can see I tried to incorporate courtroom themes...and ahaha it didn't too well but let's just say this poem is dedicated to an awesome character in an awesome game.
