Kaito exhaled softly through clenched teeth, a bead of sweat sliding down his back from exertion. He needed to stay silent, and he couldn't move his limbs, not unless he wanted to fall. The magician's muscles had long since locked up from keeping the same straining position for so long, and any small change in his position was sure to make him falter from a muscle spasm.
He bowed his head, indigos clenched shut as he focused on his breathing. Kaito couldn't keep this up for much longer. Already he had slid down a few inches, his sweaty hands making the friction of his bare palms and feet against metal less effective than it had been at the start. His shoes were actually strung together by the laces, hanging over his neck since he hadn't been wearing the ones that had a proper grip. They were actually dress shoes since he'd wanted to break them in and get a feel for them. It was supposed to be a simple outing, he really should have known better since Shinichi was involved.
Speaking of Shinichi, the guy really owed him a new phone after this. His own had fallen from his pockets early on, becoming a casualty of the sea. He couldn't keep buying new phones, they were expensive, and unlike the sleuth, he wasn't loaded with cash.
Trying not to think about his current position was hard, especially with how strange it was and the ever present sound of waves crashing against the cliff side below. The plan hadn't been for him to end up getting tossed down the disposal chute of an abandoned factory, not at all. It had actually been for him and Shinichi to go check out the library together. The magician wasn't sure if the chute leading off to the ocean was a good thing or not. Maybe it was? At least he wasn't trapped in an area that could be potentially filled with noxious fumes from mould and things right? Nope, it was just crashing into the water that he had to worry about, and remembering to get a tetanus booster after this.
He couldn't try climbing since he could just barely hear the goons talking from above, though he couldn't make out what they were saying. If they heard him, they could just toss something else down. Then it would be bye bye Kaito as he succumbed to a watery death where evil finny things would consume his remains. Yeah, he wasn't a fan of that idea.
Indigos peeked open as he risked a glance down, he still had a few more feet before he ran out of chute. There should be plenty of time for the sleuth to get his act together, beat the bad guys, find him, then toss down a rope or something for him to climb up. At least he could take some solace in the fact that taking a metal bat to the head for Shinichi had been a good idea. There was no way the other would have lasted this long like this. If only he hadn't been too out of it to escape before getting tossed down here. Though one could say that he was lucky that the shock of being tossed had snapped him out of his daze enough to save himself.
By the time he had less than a foot of chute left before falling, Kaito had actually started to become genuinely worried for his own survival. He wasn't sure if he'd actually be able to make it back up if he tried to climb now, caution be damned. Kaito bit his lip, if he didn't try he was going to die. So risking them hearing him and tossing something else down didn't really matter as much as it did before.
Kaito took in a breath, readying himself before pausing and perking up. He'd just heard gunshots! That meant someone the goons saw as an enemy had arrived, and since they were still going off, it meant that the person hadn't been shot. The sound of fighting carried on for a while until it eventually ended, the magician tensed at the screech of the chute's rusty flap being lifted. He really hoped that he was being rescued instead of having a body dumped on him.
"Kaito?" Shinichi's voice was wary, filled with concern as he called down.
"Pull me up with a rope or something" Kaito called, he was thankful that he'd been found, but he didn't want to stay like this any longer than he had to.
The sleuth's shoulders relaxed at the response "Right, I'll send down my suspenders" He hurriedly removed the clothing article, looping it before sending it down as promised. He didn't bother to pay attention to the division one officers hurrying about "I'm so sorry" Shinichi apologized as he used his hands to pull Kaito the rest of the way up once he could reach him "They wanted to get revenge against me for getting their friend arrested"
Kaito shot the other a tired smile, too exhausted to move "It's fine, you didn't do anything wrong" It was their friend's fault for doing whatever crime they'd done, probably murder. They should have known better.
Azure darkened, blood was coating the whole left side of Kaito's face and the magician's body was physically trembling from exertion. Not to mention that his friend's hands and feet were all cut up "You need to go in the ambulance so you can get some antibiotics in you at least" He eyed Kaito's hands with concern "We don't want an infection to take a finger or anything" The hideout was filled with so much rust.
The magician hummed in response, crashing from the adrenaline that had been keeping him conscious through both the concussion and exhaustion.
Shinichi sighed when Kaito was no longer conscious, calling Takagi over to help him carry Kaito over to where the ambulance was waiting. They hadn't known what condition they were going to find Kaito in so they'd been cautious, especially since they'd expected the other to at least have a concussion from being bashed in the head.
Me: This was really fun to write~ Making Kaito go through hardships is just so much fun~
And Kaito was concussed, so bad decision to remove shoes in a rusty chute XP
Hope you enjoyed~
