Ah, yes... My grouchy son, Ty. He is our second protagonist of my webcomic series and, more importantly, Bernie's apprentice! How they came to meet was by chance alone. Maybe even fate. Bernie had sensed an usual spike in demonic energy around Solomon High School and the sector of the city Ty's apartment building was located, so the hobo had been roaming those areas.

That was when he spotted Ty and the monstrous demon aura radiating from him. It screamed unnatural, especially for a seemingly normal teenage boy.

On the other hand, Ty himself was feeling miserable. His girlfriend broke up with him and got together with his best friend the day after, leaving him feeling betrayed and emotionally manipulated. Along with this, odd sores and fatigue have been bothering him. The symptoms were exactly the same as the mysterious illness that killed his mother years ago. Thus, when Bernie approached him and claimed his sickness to be of a magical source... well, his initial reaction was skepticism.

The parasite infesting Ty's system is called an Atavad. Bernie described them to be hungry creatures that feast on a host's spiritual energy until they die. Slowly and painfully. This explained Ty's demonic aura, but not why the Atavad's targeted him because mortals' auras were far too weak to satisfy the parasite's hunger. The best conclusion Bernie could come up with was far-fetched: Ty withheld powerful spiritual energy (powerful enough to attract the hunger of Atavads) yet it was dormant.

Through a series of (extremely) stressful events, Ty experienced his Spiritual Awakening, which allowed him to physically manifest his aura rather than letting it leak from his body like a broken faucet. The change seemed to have also unlocked his memories from a past life, where he referred to himself as Titus The Protector.

However, before he could cause any collateral damage, Bernie incapacitated him.

And deemed Ty worthy of being his apprentice.

Of course, I left out a lot of key elements to the story but hopefully this is enough information to give you a quick rundown on Ty and his relationship with Bernie. They have a darling and fun dynamic with plenty of bickering in between.

I'm honestly with Ty on this one... You can't make me give up candy. Especially not Reeses. I will fight to the death for those magical cups of peanut butter chocolately goodness.
