Jennifer: The Descendant
Say hello to Jennifer, my sassy spit-fire of a character. She's a tad rough around the edges, but a sweet lady once you get to the center of it all. Above all else? Fiercely loyal. Jennifer appears a tad later into the plot when Ty has this... inexplicable "urge" to be near her. At first, Ty suspects that he has a sudden crush on the girl and tries to avoid her, only to unconsciously waltz back into her general area.
Safe to say that Ty gets a tad frustrated with himself.
At the same time, Jennifer is perplexed by the boy's presence. Although they attend the same high school, they aren't friends, let alone acquaintances. In her eyes, he's nothing more than a brooding jerk who recently broke up with Cindy and had a falling out with his best friend. That's it.
Well, things changed when her little sister, Kim, was attacked by a level one demon--a Drainer (this certain demon and Kim will be properly introduced in later chapters). Through Bernie's interference, Jennifer comes to realize that her world is a lot more dangerous and vast than she's ever imagined.
By the way, she and Kim could see the demon... which should be impossible for normal people.
Cue Bernie's interest/curiosity being piqued.
Again, lots of key elements are left out but I'd rather not spill the entirety of my plot in case I start the comic up again!
Until then, I can definitely gush about Jennifer as an individual and the personal trials that she faces/will face alongside Bernie and the others.
The above depictions are titled "Tournament" and "Card Master".
Let's talk about "Card Master" first. So, when Jennifer joins the exorcist team, she faces a lot of struggle, especially in the realm of self-confidence and her ability to contribute. Unlike Ty, she doesn't experience her Spiritual Awakening as quickly as he does. Ultimately, the most she can do is see demons. Yes, an impressive feat in comparison to mortals, but Bernie and Ty can already do this.
For a while, Jennifer finds herself in the background of most fights and becoming frustrated with herself. When Bernie finally realizes this, he offers to teach her the art of Exorcist Cards. These cards cannot simply be found anywhere; not the Mortal Plane, Monk Plane nor Demon Realm. They are fabricated from the user's spirit and doing so takes an incredible amount of spiritual fortitude. Since it was such a risky and draining process, the Exorcist Academy gradually weeded it out of their practices.
Lo and behold, Jennifer had a knack for it. With Bernie's guidance, Jennifer crafted different means of attacks and defense for each card, which she could then call upon at will (with enough practice, that is). They're not quite as powerful/potent as monks who have underwent their Spiritual Awakening, but it's a start and she becomes damn good at what she does.
My explanation for "Tournament" is pretty short because, again, don't want to give away too much plot. Just know that I had a tournament arc planned because all action series needs one. It's just a common rule! And I'm a sucker for them, lol!
Man, I sure do have a poor habit of never finishing these... Hopefully I will someday. In this comic, Jennifer receives training from one of Bernie's old buddies from the Exorcist Academy. Granted, this won't happen until waaaaaay further down the line because she has to unlock her Spiritual Awakening first. And, as I established earlier, that doesn't come easily for Jennifer.
Alrighty! I have a bit more drama planned for Jennifer, but I'll save that for future chapters (as they involve other characters).
For now, I hope you enjoyed!
