The above two depictions feature the main character of my webcomic--Bernie Snow! He's lovable, he's goofy, he's a sucker for Chinese takeout and he can be a bit clumsy too. However, he's hands down one of the best monks to have ever graduated from the Exorcist Academy, so don't let his personality fool you. The mark on his forehead is the academy's insignia and announces the status of a full fledged Exorcist Monk, which is no easy task.

I made this during my beginners/experimental phase with digital art. Playing around with the paint tools was a blast and combining them with the badass image of Bernie harnessing his spiritual energy was just icing on the cake.

A bit sloppy and frenzied with my brush strokes, but I couldn't get the image of an evil Bernie out of my head. In all honesty, the world would be doomed if Bernie crossed over to the dark side and with the backstory I bestowed upon him, no one would be able to blame him for snapping. Regardless, it's all part of a "what if" scenario, so I don't intend for this to ever really happen.

...Or do I?

A casual outline of Bernie battling his first real villain (and soon to be love interest). This lovely blue lady will have a proper introduction in future chapters. Promise!

A few more practice pieces of Bernie in combat. The first has Bernie's spiritual energy clashing with the ice woman's attack; it's not terribly accurate for her powers, but I wanted to play around with the blending of colors. The second fight pose was my attempt to be more dynamic with poses and add motion to the energy surrounding Bernie. I think I pulled it off (maybe).

Although I'm a tad disappointed in myself with the lack of foreground (you can barely see the grass), I've always been happy about how the storm clouds and lightning turned out! And before you ask--yes, that is indeed the same lightning-wielder fighting Bernie in the drawing before this one! He's also a villain in the series, but I haven't decided on when to introduce him to the plot. I know; I'm such a slacker.
