A Chance

They had been worried. They all had. For one, she knew because all had been startled awake when the vase had crashed on the floor. They had rushed in looking panicked and all had happened too fast, as her mendhak had tried to explain what had gone on and Kirti had immediately called the police.

Who was that? She didn't know. Did that impostor know her? She didn't know. Did she know them? She didn't know. Did Kartik? She didn't know. Why was the impostor here? She didn't know. To kill her? She didn't know.

She just didn't know anything that had happened! She. DIDN'T. KNOW.

"I'm sure it's Suvarna." Devyaani suddenly spoke up surprising everyone. Naira froze. No. it couldn't be. She knew Suvarna hated her but trying to kill her?- she wouldn't, right?

"P-per dadi kaise? Maa's in a coma!" She argued not yet knowing the truth behind all the act. Everyone exchanged looks and Kartik nodded at Kirti who understood and smiled at her sister-in-law, taking her hand. "But... how can she... Kirti di..."

"Shhh Naira... come, let's go."

"No. you are hiding something from me!" She refused, tearing her hand away from Kirti's hold. "These past few days you have been hiding something, something related to maa! What is it?!" No answer. She groaned. It must be important, or else... "please, tell me!"

"Naira, you are already stressed enough, it wouldn't be nice to stress you even more." Suhasini Ji denied. She never denied. If even dadi was denying to tell, it must be something important.

"I can handle it, just tell me!" She wanted to know. She wanted to know why all had fallen so silent, why the hate towards Suvarna had risen, why they all blamed her for whoever attacked her, what all this mess was about.

Kirti sighed. "To suno. The accident was all a fraud and all she actually wanted to do was get you in jail. She didn't fall in a coma."

Dead silence. Her eyes widened and her hold on the basket of flowers she held loosened, as they fell on the ground and scattered all over the floor. She paid no mind, trying to process the little words she was told yet they made up the whole story in every little detail.

Suvarna... had done such a thing? She had done such an act, such a FOOLISH and DANGEROUS act... just to get revenge? All this mess... for revenge? ... no. she didn't believe it.

"Y-you're lying." She blurted out ignoring the surprised looks she earned. "You're lying. She wouldn't do that, she's not like that! That d-doesn't sound like maa-"

"That's because she isn't your maa Naira!" Naitik finally spoke, brows frowning in worry. "She's a vengeful woman who doesn't have any relation to the Suvarna ji we knew. She's not Suvarna!" He gently brought his shaking princess in his arms. "The Suvarna WE knew is lost between her motherly love and her grief for the loss of her son. SHE isn't Suvarna."

She still didn't believe a word everyone said. Suvarna wouldn't DO such an act, she wouldn't... she...

Her head started to spin and voices around her called out her name. She felt someone else take her in their arms and lead them away from the many voices of who she guessed was her family, while also calling out her name themselves. Their voice sounded like honey and cotton, so sweet yet soft.

She could listen to this voice forever. She wanted to listen, really, but darkness took over again.

.....

Her eyes fluttered open and she was met by blinding light. She groaned, slowly sitting up and look around. Where... she was in her room. But last thing she remembered...

"Why hello there sleeping beauty!" She jumped as Kirti walked in, grinning brightly. She set the tea she had on the desk. "Drink up! It'll give you energy. Oh, and be sure to read the letter!" She winked and left before Naira even had a chance to ask.

Her eyes fell on the letter next to the cup and she raised an eyebrow. She picked up and and opened it.

'Come outside the garden, waiting ~your mendhak~'

A smile slowly crept up her lips. Oh, so her mendhak was planning something.

....

She stepped on the rocky path of the garden, all adored with beautiful dancing flowers and the songs of the birds. Her eyes flew to the wooden garden house, which was also decorated.

"... you came..." That same honey voice greeted her from behind and her eyes sparkled with realization and joy, as she turned around to... no one. "... I knew you'd come..." The voice now came from her other side and again she was greeted by no one.

She pouted cute. "Come on Kartik, enough hide and seek! I wanna see you!"

"Aww so eager my sherni?" A hand slowly wrapped around her waist and she turned around again, this time greeted by the brown eyes of her Kartik, sparkling with love and happiness. She grinned as her arms snaked around his neck, their faces inches away.

"You have tortured me enough my dear husband..."

"My, I would never!" He pretended to be hurt and she playfully whacked his arm, laughing. He smiled softly. "... you look beautiful when you laugh..." His warm breath against her neck sent shivers down her spine and her eyes rose to stare into his own.

"... so I don't look beautiful when I don't laugh...?" Her lips brushed past his own.

"... you always look beautiful my sherni..." She snapped out of her daze and grinned teasingly, pushing him off and ready to run away when he grabbed her wrist and brought her back. "You know, a little romantic dance sounds amazing."

"Where's the music." He bit his lip and hummed in thought. Then he shrugged.

"No music." And he pulled away, not letting go of her hand however.

He twirled her around slowly and she smiled brightly as he brought her close again, in his arms. His eyes met her, and he pulled back again, both not taking their eyes off each other even once as she once again twirled around, her bright smile evident.

She fell back into his arms, staring into those understanding, calm, loving brown orbs she loved seeing every morning and night. He raised her up from the ground, slowly spinning around yet both never took their eyes off each other. Her brought her closer, their faces barely inches away...

... before she closed the gap between them with a passionate kiss. He didn't hesitate kiss back, pouring all his love and passion for her in that one kiss. Oh how much she loved him, she wouldn't repeat that over and over again.

Her feet touched the ground again as their lips parted slowly, eyes fluttering open and staring into each other again. They started to sway around slowly and softly. Her head fell on his chest, resting against him. Not that she hadn't liked the surprise, but she was feeling tired.

"What happened jaan?" She asked worriedly and she held in her chuckles. Always so worried.

"Just tired. I'm carrying another one here, if you haven't noticed." She motioned to her stomach and he pouted.

"And I picked up both of you, how is that fair?" She started full-on laughing and adorable acts and he smiled softly. "Okay, let's go back up."

"Nahi..." She hummed her head, yet again, resting on his chest. "... just a bit more..." He complied and wrapped his arms around her protectively. She mentally rolled her eyes. Again, she'll say, protective.

... and again, she'll say, kabab mein haddi!

"Arre Kartik Naira you have to see this-" Naksh suddenly barged in and immediately turned away when seeing them. Kartik groaned and Naira started laughing.

"Dekhna, jab tera romance ho raha hoga na, then I'LL be the one interrupting!" Kartik huffed and picked the still-laughing Naira up. "Come on Naira! He always sticks his leg in!" She laughed harder. Naksh himself was laughing.

"S-sorry yaar, had to get you quickly. Come, it's Suvarna ji. She called." They turned serious and nodded, before following him.

.....

"For the last time, I didn't attack!" Was the first thing they heard as they entered where everyone else was gathered. On the screen was Suvarna, looking upset and angry. "I was here all day!"

"How can we just believe you after what you did?!" Devyaani shouted back.

Naira tensed. Although knowing what her FORMER maa had done to her just a few days ago, she still cared.

Despite being cruel and vengeful, she knew the mother loved her son to death and was just heartbroken at losing her younger son who she had deserted ever since he was born and had been reunited after so many years, only to earn his hate. Kartik was her only son left after Shubham's death, and she deemed HER the cause of his death.

Still, that didn't justify the act she had done. It certainly didn't. Anger bubbled up inside her along with betrayal and her hold around Kartik's neck tightened, also noticing him holding her closer. Her eyes were glued at the screen as Suvarna soon noticed them and her breath hitched.

Both stared at each other, trying to find ANYTHING in their eyes. Her former mother's eyes were filled with anger, sadness, betrayal and... guilt? No, she had to be wrong. That couldn't be right!

"... I might have tried to put her in jail..." Suvarna spoke up eyes still glued on Naira. "... but even I wouldn't go as far as trying to kill her. I only wanted her to stay to get arrested for a few days, not DIE."

"How do we know you're not lying?" She heard her mendhak ask, anger evident in his usually honey, soothing voice. Yet she didn't falter her stare in her mother's eyes.

"... she's not..." She trailed off realization dawning on her. Suvarna may have been cruel, but she wouldn't kill. She would NEVER kill. Her hands tugged on his arm and he slowly nodded, putting her down on his feet. She let her love go and slowly stepped near the enemy who had kept them away, who had blamed her for everything.

They didn't take their eyes of each other.

"Per Naira, how...?" Mansi trailed off confused and angry. "She tried to legit break hell over you! How can you just- just- ignore that fact?!"

"I'm not ignoring it." Naira frowned. "Neither am I ignoring her vicious acts." Suvarna tensed at those words. "... but still. Everyone deserves a second chance. She may have done many wrong things, but she's still my mother, at least, the only mother I have left... after all, maa had always taught me to forgive and forget..."

Their stares made her shake her head. They weren't convince yet. "I'm not saying to forgive her just like that, of course i'm not! But..."

"Naira..." Devyaani trailed off frowning. "... don't you remember all the trouble she has caused you. She isn't worth forgiving!" The rest of her family nodded in agreement. Naira sighed. Suvarna looked away visibly upset by this, especially when Kartik glared at her.

"I know she's not, but please... we were her family once, she was part of our family once. Don't you think it wouldn't hurt her knowing her own family is against her because of her mistakes instead of trying to help her get through them?" They fell quiet at that and she turned back to the screen. "... maa... can you... no, can I trust you to change?"

Silence. Dead silence. Dread fell in her heart realizing that wouldn't be the case. Her only mother would hate her forever, would live away from her own family and would mourn and worry for her only remaining son who would hate her forever. She'd have to live with guilt at her son's hate, she would be like a restless spirit.

"... I can't guarantee..." She froze and her eyes shot back at the screen. Suvarna was looking away, tears sparkling in her eyes and her arms around her to comfort herself. She could see pain, and guilt more clearly now. "But... I-I will try..."

Silence. A soft and teary smile crept up on her face.

"... that more would be enough... maa..." She turned back to her family who looked reluctant. "... please...? Just once...?"

Devyaani sighed at last. "Baat to tumhari sahi hai." She reluctantly smiled at Suvarna. "... we'll welcome you when you return."

"..." She smiled back tearily and the screen switched off just like that. She didn't know who was happier, she herself or Manish who had been smiling through all this. He walked up to her and brought her in his arms.

"... thank you. For trying."

"No worries papa... after all, that's what maa always taught me... never give up..." She smiled and was let go, afterwards being engulfed in a hug by Naitik who was smiling softly.

"... Akshara would have been so proud, my princess..."

"Oh hello?" They turned to Naksh and Kirti (who was laughing at Kartik). "He's waiting." He pointed at the pouting Kartik and everyone immediately burst into laughter, the tense mood finally leaving them while Kartik looked embarrassed.

"Naksh ke bache..." she murmured as Naksh cheekily grinned at him. Huffing, he strode up to Naira who was let go by Naitik and picked her up bridal style again. "I'll see you later, kabab mein haddi!" He huffed at Naksh again earning more laughter and went up the stairs to their room.

Naira was still laughing when he lay her down on bed. "Aww you sad you didn't get to hug me first?" She blinked innocently. Her mendhak was so freaking adorable. And protective.

"I'll see what I can do with your bhai afterwards." She shrugged and lay beside her.

She didn't hesitate to roll closer to her, her head yet again resting on his chest. He pulled the blankets over just their waist. She fell sound fell at the rhythm of his heartbeat, in the arms of the man she loved and wouldn't dare lose, the one she owed her life to.

... still... the mystery with the impostor hadn't been solved. Just... who was that?

..... Extra, EXTRA long chapter for all the days I had been absent! So sorry for my disappearance, I wanted to see how to write it and stuff, wanted to make it DRAMATIC😂😂! Naira learns about the act and is heartbroken, a bit of Kaira scene and afterwards Naira confronts Suvarna. I truly believe she's still nice and just needs a chance. Of course there's gonna be a 'Kartik confronts Suvarna' scene in upcoming chappies. So sorry that there wasn't much Kaira😶😣😖.
