Chapter 20 (last)
He knew it was late, 1am isn't the time to visit someone, not someone but his wife.
He drove as fast as he could, and in no time he was infront of her house.
The same house, he was infront of 6 months back. When he first saw her, to a secret reveal, she was the prettiest girl he had ever seen.
"Listen,"
"No, you listen to me"
A painful chuckled escape his lips, when the memories of their first meet paid him a visit.
"Double faced!"
"Like you aren't!"
He started taking slow steps towards the door as the memories kept hitting his head and his heart ached at every stroke.
He didn't care, he pressed the doorbell.
Like his family, her family also wasn't sleeping. Her brother and father wondered who it could be, they opened the door and saw Kartik standing there.
Naksh's blood boiled seeing him there.
"Can I meet Naira?" He asked not meeting their eyes.
"Why do you think I'll let you meet my sister after what you've-
"Naksh." Naitik stopped him in between.
"What you want, Kartik? And is everything alright, why you came here so late?" Naitik asked him.
"Uncle, please I've to meet Naira." He requested.
"You can leave." Naksh stated.
Kartik sighed and closed his eyes, he was tired he needed escape, he was ashamed, he needed words of comfort.
He turned to Naitik, "Maine aj tak kissi ke aage hath nahi jode, aj apke aage jod raha hun, please mujhe Naira se milne dein." He said as he joined his hands infront of him.
He was a goner, he was a mess, he knew.
Naitik nodded and step behind giving him space to go ahead.
He ran upstairs towards her room.
Without knocking, he entered the room.
Naira looked at him, she was standing near window.
Well, it was his old habit, coming in room without knocking.
"Don't you have manners?"
"I said I don't want to waste my time"
Heavy silence, only their harsh breathings were heard.
Naira took a few steps, coming towards him. She didn't expect him to come India.
He cleared his throat, "I-I y-you I mean i-i
"Kartik come to the point." Her voice was a bit harsh.
He sighed throwing his hands, "I won't say I'm sorry. I know my sorry can't fix anything, I know I can't mend something when I don't know whats broken and even if I know I still can't mend it because its way too late, I never thought time will slip from my hand like that, that I won't even have a chance to hold it back." His voice was choked, his eyes were wet.
"Its okay, Kartik. I understand." She said with a smile.
"Aren't you angry, aren't you mad at me?" He asked her.
"Will it make some difference? No, right? If I get angry at you, then what?"
"Mera guilt kam ho jayega."
"You shouldn't feel guilty. It was meant to happen."
He shook his head, "no it wasn't, its all my mistake, I'm at fault."
"This is what the deal was about, you already had set the boundaries, and it was me who crossed them."
Deal, he stumbled onto his steps.
It was all about this deal, deal of 6months. The time has passed.
He gulped down, he totally forgot about the deal.
"Oh yeah, the deal. You remember." He looked at everywhere but her, he looked up stopping his tears to fall, but it was a failed attempt, they came running down his eyes to cheeks.
The tears she had been stopping, also came falling down.
They both didn't look at each other and the tears kept flowing from both of their eyes.
Kartik took a deep breath and wiped his tears.
"Can I ask you something?" Naira said, he nodded.
"Do you love me?"
Love? Did he love her? He never thought about it, sure he liked her but loving her was a big thing and he still wasn't sure about it.
Seeing his reaction, she understood but it didn't effect her like before.
Relationships are like wounds and band aids, they heal, they hurt. But its important to know your worth, cause the last trial of taking off the band aid won't hurt but you'll get used to it.
We never know when a scrape turns into a wound, and the people we're close to, we demand the healing from them. They put the band aid on our wound, but is it forever? They first heal and then hurt you, they take off the band aid they just had put.
Forgiving, ignoring, what not we do to hide their flaws, or behaviour from hurting us. They again heal you, they again put band aid, and you feel at peace, but its again not forever. Thats where we need to find our worth, mistakes are made once not twice.
They again hurt you, again snatch off the band aid and once again cold air brushes your wound but this time it won't hurt as previous time, the wound been already healed in the span of hurting and healing. At the end, no matter how many times they heal you, they put the band aid on, it won't reheal you. Your wound would be healed but whenever you'll look at it you'll feel the pain once again, its in our hands whether we've to distant ourselves from such relations or welcome some more wounds like these!
It was same with Naira, now it didn't hurt her like before.
"I got it." She whispered.
"But I want to love you, I want to fall in love with you." He said with so much hope but what she said next broke his heart.
"If we were meant to be together, don't you think these 6months would've been enough for you to fall in love with me? To make us work?"
"But I want to give this relation a last chance, I promise if I mess up this time, you're free to go, I won't stop you." He said with his own voice breaking down.
She shook her head as she took steps back and numerous tears flowing out of her eyes.
"No, no. Please, just give me one last chance." He said moving ahead and holding her hand that was seem to be slipping away from his approach.
"Maybe it was meant to happen, we were meant to meet, and then meant to separate." She said with her voice trembling.
"Why not meant to stay?" He said and a tear leaked his eyes but he didn't care to wipe it off.
"I don't know." She murmured looking down.
His one hand cupped her cheeks as he joined his forehead with her.
"So its the end?" He whispered.
"I guess." She whispered.
"I will always cherish this chapter of my life."
"Me too." She replied.
They both closed their eyes, tears flowing down their cheeks. They cried, together.
A sweet yet painful chill of memories passed through them, they both shivered together.
"Such a whiny witch you're!"
"Can you please shut your mouth?"
"You shut your mouth and sit there quietly"
"Who the hell is this monkey faced donkey?"
"Tum na...
"Maina touta kya?"
"Shakal dekhi hai apni?"
"Achi hai"
"Besuri hai"
Aren't you afraid that I can touch you?"
"I didn't learn karate for showoff"
"I missed you."
"Maan jao na please."
"Promise?"
"Toh kya maaro gy tum?"
"Jaan se maarun ga."
"Yeh sawal khud se pucho, jawab mil jayega"
"Mujhe rukna nahi aata, Naira." Kartik said.
"Aur mujhe rokna nahi aata, Kartik." Naira replied.
Their just by chance, lacked just a chance.
