A Pre-White Christmas

Amelia's POV

   Kai and I ironically have Meredith's house to ourselves for the evening (everyone is either participating in holiday festivities and/or working), well aside from Scout being asleep down the hall (Scout is my child though so he's automatically an exception to the rule). It's two days before Christmas and the two of us managed to have an evening off from work despite the hectic holiday season chaos. We're sitting on the bench overlooking the loft window upstairs, watching something begin to fall from the sky. I raise an eyebrow and focus intensely on studying what is falling from the sky. As my eyes begin to focus better, I squeak from joy. "Kai, it's snowing!" They chuckle and look out the window also. "Well would you look at that, it sure is. Shall we open the window?" I nod and clap my hands together like a little kid, which amuses Kai like you wouldn't believe. 

     Kai opens the window about halfway, just enough for us to be able to better view the snowflakes and feel them as they fall, but not all the way in order to prevent us from getting a chill from the cold air tonight. The snow feels soft but nearly instantly melts in the palms of my hands. Kai smirks and takes a few snowflakes and licks them out of their hands. I groan and laugh playfully. "Kaaaiiiii, why would you do that?" They break out into laughter at my simple question. "Why not? Snowflakes evaporate into water just as rain does. I'm just consuming water, but in a more entertaining way." I shrug my shoulders. "Well, you're not wrong love." 

      Kai flicks a snowflake at me and I too like it off of my arm. It's like drinking ice cold water and it feels good on my throat despite the chill. I gaze up at Kai lovingly, basking in the glory that is them. I'm so damn blessed to have them as my partner. "Kai, I'm so in love with you." Kai lets out a small gasp and cups my face. "I'm so in love with you Amelia, more than I have been with anyone else previously before you. I was about to quit on the concept of love altogether after my last devastating heartbreak, but you interrupted those plans. How dare you be amazing Amelia Shephard. How dare you make me fall in love with you so hard." I seal the distance between us and pull them in for a kiss. The kiss quickly becomes rough and passionate, saying what words can't in this particular moment. 

       When we pull apart, both of us are absolutely breathless. We lean our heads against each other, panting for breath due to the intensity of our kiss (which became a make out session). The two of us then cuddle by the window for a little while longer, sipping on our drinks that are now on the cold side, but still taste delicious all the same. When our drinks are completely gone, I begin to shiver from the cold and Kai takes that as the obvious queue to close the window for the night. There's a peaceful silence for a few minutes before I break it.

    "Well Kai, based on both the current weather conditions and the weather forecast for the remainder of the week, we may possibly have a White Christmas this year. I haven't experienced one since I was a little kid so it would be a dream come true to experience it at least once as an adult. You know?" They nod. "I agree with you and I hope your wish comes true my love. In case it doesn't, at least had tonight... a Pre-White Christmas if you will." I nod to myself and smile "Indeed, we had a Pre-White Christmas at least."
