I was awakened by a beeping noise. I yawned and stretched. I stood up from my bed and looked around. At first I forgot where I was, but soon, all the things I did yesterday came flooding back to me. 

I was brought to a building with the girl named Danielle. My brother left with a suit guy and my siblings were still back at the food guy building. Wait, my mother was still there too. 

I miss Mom. Where is she? Does she miss me? I miss her stories. 

"Good morning Nova! Are you ready for training today?" Danielle jumped out of her bed and patted my head. I yipped at her. 

You sound excited! So I am excited too! Where are we going? Can I have a treat? Or maybe we can go see Mom? Hi! This place is cool! 

Wait, what is this thing wagging back and forth behind me? I'm gonna catch it and naw on it. 

I looked behind me and eyed the thing wagging and watched it closely. As soon as it was close to me I pounced at it and snapped my jaws to grab it. But it moved out of the way! 

Come back here! I'm gonna getch'ya!! 

I growled and pounced again. But it moved! Danielle laughed. 

"Nova! It's just your tail!" I looked up at her and the thing behind me wagged faster. 

Wait, this thing behind me is called a tail? 

I looked back. Then up at Danielle again. 

Then why does it follow me and move away from me when I move? 

Danielle put food and water into my bowls and then she went into the bathroom. I scarfed it down and then went back to trying to catch my 'tail.' 

When Danielle finally came out, I still didn't catch it. I tried one more time but fell over because the world was spinning. 

How have you not fallen over? The world won't stop spinning!

I told Danielle, but I guess she can't hear me because she just laughed and picked me up. 

"Let's go train Nova." She said as she scratched behind one of my ears. 

How are you so good at that? Keep scratching, right there. Ya ya ya." 

I gave her a doggy smile after she pulled her hand away. Danielle clipped a rope to my collar and walked outside. She opened the door to the white thing and set me on the seat. Then she sat down on her seat. 

"Shoot! I forgot my keys in the house! Be right back Nova. You stay right there." 

Danielle ran back into the building called a house and ran back out with sparkly jingle things in her hands that must be the keys. 

Danielle drove us to the place where I met her for the first time and picked me up and brought me over to a guy in a blue suit like everyone else. 

"Welcome to the training facility Nova." Danielle whispered into my ear. 

"Welcome Danielle and..." 

"Nova, sir." 

"Please, call me Will." Danielle smiled. "Has Nova met your family yet?" 

"No s-Will. She has not. I didn't want her to get to confused with who her partner is so they spent the night at my Mom's house." 

Mom? She is here? Where?

I looked around looking for my mom. But couldn't find or smell her. 

"That's a good idea. Maybe keep it that way until she has a strong connection to you. What are you planning on going into with Nova?" 

"I wanted to do search and rescue." 

"Ok. Are you prepared for what comes with that?" 

"Yes." 

"Then let's get started with training. Let's start with the bonding exercises for a few days until she knows her name, and has a connection to you. It shouldn't take long by the looks of it. Nova seems glued to your side." Will laughed and I jumped. 

What was that noice that he made? That was scary...

Danielle set me down on the ground and I didn't move from her side. I just stared up at the big guy who was called Will.

"Does she know her name?" Will asked Danielle. She shook her head. 

"I don't think she does yet." I sniffed the ground. 

Who has been here? I don't recognize this scent...

"Nova!" Danielle called. I just stayed sniffing the ground, not understanding what Danielle wanted. I heard a single click sound and then Danielle said, "Nova!" again. I looked up at her. 

What was that noise?

"Now praise her, give her a treat, and click it two times." Will said to Danielle. Danielle knelt down, pet my head and said, 

"Good girl Nova! Good girl!" He handed me a treat and the clicking sound clicked 2 times. I wiggled with joy. 

Yes! I am a good girl! Yay!

"Now stand up, click it once and do it again." Will said. Danielle suddenly stopped petting me and stood up. 

Hey! Come back!

She clicked it once and said, 

"Nova!" I looked up at her again. 

Are you called me? What do you want?

She praised me again, clicking it two times, and giving me a treat. She did that a few more times over. 

"Now, I want you to take a few steps away from her and do that again, but try to get her to come to you. But don't say come, we don't want to confuse her with too many commands." Will told Danielle. She just nodded her head. 

Danielle stood up, started to walk away from me. I just looked at her with curious eyes. I heard one click then, 

"Nova!" My head shot towards Danielle as she patted her leg and called out "Nova!" multiple times. I shook myself and walked towards her. She seemed to get happier so I walked a little faster! Once I was all the way to her side Danielle clicked it two times and praised my like crazy. 

"She is one smart puppy." Will said. Danielle pet me. 

"She sure is..." For the next few hours, all I did was run over to Danielle when she clicked and called out, 'Nova!' I was fed so many treats and given so much praise and pets. 

"We better call it a day before Nova get's bored of this." Will said. I looked over to him when he said 'Nova.' 

Hey! He called me.

I walked over to him and looked up at him. 

Treat?

He laughed, so did Danielle. 

"Is she scared of the cruiser?" I was picked up by Will. I licked his chin, he tasted funny. He laughed, vibrating his chest. 

"No, she was nervous around it at first, but it has become a lot better quite fast." 

"That's good. So we won't need to work on them too much." I was handed to Danielle and brought back into the big white thing. I think they just called it a... cruiser? Maybe? 

I was set in the passenger seat and Danielle started to make the... cruiser... move forward. 

"You did so good today Nova!" I looked at Danielle when she called me. 

Yes?

"I think we are going to be an amazing team girl." I wiggled. Danielle sounded so excited. "We are going to save so many lives together Nova! You and me!" I yipped. 

Whatever you are saying, I like it!

We arrived at home and Danielle brought me home. 

"You hungry girl?" I looked up at her and yipped. 

What ever you are saying... yes! 

She laughed and carried me inside. She set me down by my food and water bowl, then rang high pitch bell. I perked my ears up. 

Wow! What was that sound?

Danielle set down the small shiny thing that made the noice, then filled my bowl with puppy food and water. I ate it all up within a few minutes, then flopped down on my bed. 

"Nova!" I heard Danielle called. I raised my ears but didn't move. I heard a single click then, "Nova!" I jumped up and padded my way over to her. She was holding a rope like thing in her hands. 

What is that thing?

"Come here Nova." Danielle said while patting her leg. I walked over to her and laid my head on her legs. 

Yes?

She wiggled the rope in front of my face. 

Wow! Wow! Wow! What is it... I think I want to bite it... 

I watched it with my eyes before I snapped at it. I missed so I tried again. That time my small puppy jaws with small sharp teeth clamped down on the rope. I growled and pulled back. 

I want it! Me me me! 

I playfully growled and pulled back on the rope. Danielle made a growling noice back at me and pulled back with her hands. I let go. 

What? Did you just growl? Why aren't you using your mouth? 

"It's ok Nova." Danielle said to me then waved the rope in front of my face again. I wiggled and snatched it again. We played tug the rope for a while before I was too tired to play some more. 

I jumped up on the coach and spun in circles around in small area, patting down the coach before I laid down. I don't know why I spin but I just felt like I needed to before laying down. Danielle laid her hand on my head and started to pet me, from the top of my head to my tail. 

I sighed and relaxed next to her. 

I like you Danielle. I think we will get along just fine...

I drifted off into sleep after the long day at training. 

I was awakened from my sleep by the sounds of an animal howling. I jumped awake and perked my ears up towards the sound. My eyes searched for a dog or wolf. My nose sniffing the air slightly to see if I recognized the scent. 

But I didn't smell anything, or see an animal standing it front of me, but still was hearing the sound. I let my eyes wander, looking for the source of the sound until my eyes landed on the glowing screen. There, on the screen was a large black, white, and grey wolf howling. A stream of steam billowed out of its mouth. The ground it was standing on was covered with white fluffy stuff. 

I listened to the howl. 

He is asking other wolves if they are near. 

I threw my head back and gave the best howl I could to let him know I was here. Danielle laughed hard. I stopped howling and looked at her. 

What? 

"Oh Nova. You are too funny." Danielle chuckled and pat my head. I heard something make a vibrating sound. Danielle looked to her left at another glowing screen. The large wolf stopped making noice even though he was still howling. 

"Hey Mike! How are you doing?" I heard Danielle say, I looked over to her and saw the small screen up against her ear. I heard mumbling on the other side but didn't really make out human words. 

"I am doing amazing! I got a female brindle boxer puppy yesterday!" She said happily while looking at me. I heard more mumbling from the screen. 

"I named her Nova and she is doing absolutely amazing! She already nearly knows her name and is so smart and clever!" More mumbling. 

"How is Hazel doing?" Danielle asked the small screen. More mumbling. 

"Can I talk to her?" There was a short pause then Danielle talked again. "Hey Sweetie!" I heard a higher pitch voice say some things on the other side. Danielle laughed. 

"Well then you better let Daddy know that mommy said she can have a piece of candy before bed." 

I lost interest in Danielle's conversation with the small screen and instead started gnawing on the rope that I played with not too long ago. 

After a few minutes, Danielle put the screen down and stood up. I jumped up and off the couch but didn't land nicely. My front paws collapsed and I fell on my face. Danielle burst out laughing. 

Owwwwwww! Stupid stupid stupid paws! You are supposed to catch my face! Not let it hit the ground!

I growled at my paws and gnawed on my right paw. That hurt so I let it go. 

"I am going to go make supper Nova." Danielle said as she pat my head and scratched behind an ear. 

Yeah... right there....

She left so I started to chew on the rope. Danielle came back a while later with a white circle thing filled with good smelling food. I looked at Danielle, then at the food. 

Please? Can I have some??

Danielle looked down at me and smiled. 

"No sorry girl, you have your own food! You can't have my food." She pat my head and I flopped down at her feet. 

Darn...

For the rest of the night, Danielle and I either played tug the rope or we cuddled on the couch. Once it was bed, I walked over to my comfy soft bed and spun in circles a few times before laying down. 

"Good night Nova girl. I love you." Danielle pat my head before heading to a room with a huge bed on it. She turned off the light and I rested my head on my paws. 

I hope I get to see mom tomorrow. I miss her... It is lonely here. And cold! Where are my siblings? I want to sleep on a doggy pile again. I miss Mom's stories. 

I sat up, unable to sleep. I quietly whimpered. 

Mom?

After a little wait and no mom. I whimpered again but slightly louder. Again and again I did that until I was whining loudly. 

"Nova. It's ok baby." Danielle said to me as she walked out of the room and over to me. She sat down next to me and started to pet me. I sighed and laid down. 

You aren't mom, but you are warm and this feels good. 

I closed my eyes and was almost asleep when Danielle stopped petting me. I woke up and whimpered before she walked away. 

"Nova..." She knelt down and I licked her chin. 

Don't leave me alone!

After a few more tries, Danielle just picked me up and brought me to her bed. She laid down and I curled up at her feet and fell sleep quickly.
