The first thing I remember is the feeling of small fluffy wiggle things around me, and the taste of mother's warm sweet milk. I pushed and shoved to get closer to Mom so I could get more of her addicting milk.

My siblings had the same thought and they pushed and shoved me as well, but they were not going to stop me. I pushed harder and whined to get closer.

But with no luck, I plopped down on my bottom and whined. Calling for my mother. I soon felt Mom pick me up by my scruff and she put me in between her paws and snuggled up next to me as the rest of my siblings fell asleep.

Days went by like that, wake up, drink, go to sleep, repeat. Until finally, my eyes opened. And wow! What a big world it is! I could barely see a brown wall ahead of me, and to my right was another brown wall! And to my left! I turned around to see what was behind me and there I saw her, Mom.

I whined and wobbled over to her, tripping and falling over my own 4 feet. She was huge and beautiful! She was brown and black pattern on her back and top of her head, and her stomach and paws were white.

I looked behind her and saw another brown wall. I was about to drink Mom's milk when I was tackled by my older brother. I yipped and tried to push him off me, but he was too big.

"Mom! Mom! Help me!" I called. I heard a soft laugh.

"You need to learn how to do things on your own sweetie. Use his size against him, use your smallness to your advantage. Find a way around." I whined softly.

Find a way around... Use his size against him... Use my size to my advantage.

I repeated in my head. I wiggled and pushed and moved out of his grip. I yipped with joy! I had done it! I then hobbled out of his way as he pounced on me again.

I then pounced on him! Getting onto his back, he flopped down with the extra weight.

"Ha!" I yipped out at him. He huffed and rolled over, pinning me below him again.

Around and around we went. Tackling each other until the other puppies interfered. We then had an all out puppy play time. Eventually we all fell asleep on each other, me on top!

After nap time, I woke up first. I rolled down the puppy pile and over to sleeping mom. I nudged her with my face.

"Mom!" A called. "Mommy!" She woke up and yawned.

"Yes honey?" She said.

"What's Dad like?" She smiled.

"He is a hero, dear." She said in a dreamy far off voice. "Your father is the bravest dog I know, he looked just like your oldest sister, all black with a little white on his paws.

Your father would go on crazy missions with his handler, he has saved so many people." She went on and on about him. I laid down and pictured everything. A brave dog running into danger to save a child. A dog running after a bad guy. A dog pouncing on a stranger with a gun to save his handler.

A few more awesome days went past like this, eat, play, sleep, listen to stories about Dad, repeat. I got bigger and stronger, it was easier to tackle my siblings now and even though I am smaller than them, I win almost every time!

One day, Mom left for the first time, she just stepped over the giant brown wall and disappeared. I sat down and called for her. Then, I heard someone coming! I sniffed the air, it was Mom! But noticed there was another thing with her.

Mom came back in, she smelled different. It smelled really good. It smelled more fresh. She came back in and we all piled over to her for milk, but she wouldn't let us!

Then the other thing with mom set a bowl down behind us and I stopped trying to get mom's milk. It smelled new and interesting. I slowly walked over to it.

I sniffed it and it smelled like food. I slowly looked in and saw a bunch of soft brown stuff in there.

"Mom? What is it?" I asked.

"It's food. Try it!" I walked the rest of the way to it and stuck my face close to it. I opened my mouth and tried some.

Wow! It is so so so good! Almost better than Mom's milk!

I said to myself.

I ate more of it. Scarfing it down before I realized my siblings wern't here.

"Hey guys! Come try this stuff!" I called out. They all came running and circled the bowl. I ate some more to show them to eat it and they did, the food was gone in a little bit.

I say down, stuffed with good food. The thing on 2 legs picked up the bowl and left.

"Mom, where were you?" I asked her.

"Outside sweetie."

"What's it like?"

"I can't really explain it, you will have to experience it for yourself."

"What was that thing with you?"

"You mean the human?"

"The what?" I asked.

"The thing on 2 legs with me was my handler, his name is Tyler. He trained me from when I was a puppy to be a police dog, kind of like your father." She told me.

I was about to ask another question when I was trampled by my siblings, we played until we crashed. Again.

We kept eating that really good food and less and less milk, and Mom left a few times every day.

After a while, I was able to stand on my back legs and hook my font paws on the edge of the brown wall and look over. It was so weird out there, there were walls everywhere, and things on the floor. There was also a wall on top of us, it was cool.

One day while I was playing, I heard the door open. I stood up and looked out to see a tall man walk in, he was wearing a blue and black suit with a blue and black hat on. He shook a person's hand and walked over to us.

He knelt down in front of me and put his hand out for me to sniff.

"Hey there." He said to me. I sniffed him and licked his hand he laughed and ran his hand down my head and back.

"They are how old again?" He asked the person that gave me food.

"They are almost 4 weeks now."

"Any of the puppies here show signs of being good police dogs? We are looking for good ones. And are thinking about giving Boxer's a try." The guy in the suit said as he gave each one of my sibling his hand to sniff.

Not very many liked him, the backed away and whined when he held out his hand but I liked him. My oldest sister and my brother who was just barely older than me were the only ones who sniffed the person.

"The runt is definitely looking like a good dog for the job. She is the most active, interested, leader like, smart, and curious pup of the litter." The food guy said while looking at me.

"I'll be back in 4 weeks, then I can do the tests to see what ones I will take."

Then, the man left. Leaving me with my siblings and mother again. Time flew by, play, food, sleep, talk, repeat over and over again. I grew more and more. The food guy actually had to put us somewhere else because my siblings and I could get out of the brown wall room.

We were now in a area with 3 walls, a roof (as I found it was called), and a door that could only be opened from the outside. Before I knew it, the guy in the blue suit came back. I yipped and ran up the the cage door to meet him.

He opened the cage and took me first. I barked and licked his hand and face as he carried me away from my siblings and mother.

Wait, what about them? I don't want to leave them!

"Mommy!" I whined and called, my siblings were calling back to me. I wiggled and moved like I do when I am trying to get away from my bigger siblings, but I couldn't get out of his grip. I whined softly.

"It's ok girl. Shhh. It's ok." The guy said to me. He went over to the door where he came in from and opened it up. I was blinded by a really bright light.

I blinked over and over again as my eyes adjusted.

It was so bright and colorful out here! The guy set me down and soft green stuff that smelled weird.

Grass...

I remember Mom telling me it was grass. I sniffed it and dug in it a little bit. Then I got to brown powdery stuff below the grass! Dirt! I sniffed it and sneezed.

Do not get dirt in your nose.

I made a mental note for myself. The guy in the suit whistled, I wiped my head around to look at him. He patted his leg and said,

"Come here sweetie!" I didn't know what he wanted from me. He kept patting his leg and I finally just ran over to him. He praised me like crazy and wiggled with joy.

The guy then picked me up and put me into a thing he called a shirt. I looked around and saw no light. I whined and called for help. When no one came, I remembered what mom told me.

Find a way around it. There is always a way. Just think. You can do this.

Well, the only way I could get in here is if there was a place in and out so there must be a way. I turned around and saw a light behind me.

I slowly walked forward till I was out of the shirt! The guy in the suit praised me again.

He did a few more weird things before he picked me up and said,

"I will take her for sure."

He then put me back with my siblings and took each one of them out one by one. When he was done, he took me and my oldest brother. He thanked our food person and I looked back.

I saw Mom looking at me. Her eyes were filled with pride. I kept looking at her until we walked out the door. He carried us to this large white thing on wheels. He opened the door and put me and my brother in another cage in the back seat.

He then closed the door and went around the weird white thing and opened another door. He then sat down behind another black wheel with holes in it. He picked up something shiny and put it in a hole by the wheel.

Then, the white thing roared to life. I whined and curled up with my brother. He was whining too as he wrapped himself around me.

It then jolted forward and I yelped.

"It's ok puppies. You're ok." The guy in the suit said. After a few minutes in the scary white thing, it stopped and went to sleep. I sighed in relief.

The suit guy took me and my brother out of the cage and back out into the open world.

There was a building that smelled like this man and other dogs. He then put us onto the grass with a brown wall kind of like the place when I was little. But way way bigger.

After a little bit, I stood up and started to sniff around. So many new smells here. And so many dog smells! My brother soon followed my lead and we adventured around.

The suit guy went into the building and I heard talking inside. Then, the suit guy and 2 other suit people came out. One was a girl and the other was just like suit guy.

I ran over to the girl first, she had a huge smile on her face as she knelt down. I pounced into her arms. She laughed and started to pet me.

Hi! Hi! Hi!

I said to her. I licked her chin, she smelled and tasted good. I started to gnaw on one of her fingers. She pulled her hand away.

"No. No biting." She said in a stern low voice. I closed my mouth instantly and looked up at her with sad eyes.

I'm sorry. What did I do wrong?

"I'm sorry girl. You're ok. Good girl." She then praised. I yipped.

"Danielle, meet your new partner." The suit guy said. She smiled so big and looked down at me.

"Thank-you sir." She said. I licked her chin again.

"Nova." She whispered in my ear. "I am going to call you Nova." My brother left with the new suit guy and this girl called Danielle took me to her white car thing.

This time, she put me on the seat next to her and I looked out the window. I saw the world fly past me super fast. We stopped in front of a large building. She picked me up and brought me in with her. It smelled like other people, new dogs, toys, and... treats!!!!!!!

She got a cart and put me into the small basket in front by her hands. She pushed me through the isles and showed me toys and treats and I would sniff it and try to take it in my mouth if I liked it but then she would put it in the cart! If I didn't like it, she would put it back on the shelves. We went down the last isle and I saw a lot of different collars! All different sizes and shapes and colors.

Danielle picked out a black leather collar with pink seams and tried it on me. Once she found one that fit, she brought it over to a woman behind a desk.

"I would like to put a name tag on this collar." She told the girl, handing her the collar she picked out for me.

"Here is the types of patterns and colors we have, you can put anything you want on both sides within reason." After a little bit of Danielle looking at a white shinny paper she said,

"Let's go with the pink heart."

"Here is the layout of it, you can write on it how you would like it on her tag." The lady gave Danielle a paper with a giant heart on it and a pencil. After a little bit of waiting, Danielle handed the paper to the lady and then she started to pet me.

"Come back next week Friday and it will be here for you." The lady said.

"Thank-you." Danielle picked me up and walked back to the white thing.

"We are partners now Nova. You and me." She beamed. "Tomorrow we will start training. You are going to be the best police do in the world." She said to me. Then she started up the white thing and we moved faster than I could run again.
