Chapter 25

The next day, all eyes were on Washington DC, since while the city was still recovering from the attacks, people could still feel the excitement in the air as reporters from every major news outlet in the country was standing outside the Hall of Justice at the bottom of the steps while a stage had been set up at the top of them where President Marsdin was standing in the center while the current members of the Justice League stood behind her in the following order from left to write: Flash, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern, Supergirl, Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.

Supergirl smiled as she looked throughout the crowd of reporters, which included Lois Lane representing the Daily Planet and she saw that Catco had sent two reporters. One was a reporter she knew well, William Dey, since he'd done a few stories on Argo Enterprises and the other one was a cub reporter that she recognized as Nia Nal.

Then again, she wasn't surprised, since today did mark a historic day for both the country and the world as the president walked up to the podium.

"Thank you all for coming to this ceremony where we've come together for two reasons. The first one being to celebrate the official end to the war against Atlantis, thanks in no small part to the actions of the heroes standing behind me today. The Justice League. Which is why on behalf of the nation, I am honored to declare the official opening of their new headquarters, the Hall of Justice. And now, I'll turn this conference over to the person I'm sure you all really want to hear from, the leader and chairwoman of the Justice League, Supergirl." President Marsdin said as she moved out of the way for Supergirl to take the microphone.

"Thank you Madam President. I speak on behalf of all my fellow League members and myself when I say that we are all proud that we could be of service to this nation and this planet in the recent crisis and that the one good thing that came out of our battle with Atlantis is that it brought the eight of us together to form something more powerful than any of us could've hoped to be alone. And I'm also thrilled to announce the peace treaty that has been signed between the United Nations and the under sea kingdoms of Atlantis, officially proclaiming an end to the war. And while the Justice League acted bravely to fight off the Atlantean invasion, we did not act alone." Supergirl said as Doctor Fate, Green Lantern 2, Batwoman, Vixen, Black Lightning and finally, Arthur Curry joined them on stage.

"These six heroes all stepped up when the world needed them most. Which is why the Justice League is thrilled to announce our first expansion and induct our six new members. Doctor Fate, another Green Lantern, Batwoman, Vixen, Black Lightning and finally, as part of the peace treaty between the land and the sea, our final new member is the new king of Atlantis himself, Aquaman." Supergirl said, since that was the name Arthur had chosen for himself and the crowd cheered as Supergirl moved to hand each new member a Justice League membership card, since Batman had created them to give the world a way of knowing which heroes were official league members. Each card had the member's photo and their identification number.

"Will Atlantis officially be joining the United Nations?" Lois asked after Supergirl handed out the cards.

"I'll let Aquaman answer that." Supergirl, since she'd expected a few questions about Atlantis to pop up during this conference and she was content to allow the new king of Atlantis to answer them.

"To answer your question, yes, once things have stabilized a bit in Atlantis, we will be joining the United Nations." Aquaman said.

"How can we be sure that you won't lead Atlantis in another war as a mole inside the Justice League?" William was the one who asked.

"Because I'm half Atlantean, half human. I'm from both worlds and I represent the peace between both worlds. That's part of why I've decided to join the League. To help prove to both worlds that it is possible for us to work together." Aquaman said.

"Since you're a king, do you think that gives you more of a right to lead the Justice League than Supergirl?" Nia Nal asked.

"No, of course not. Supergirl is a founding member of the League and while I may lead Atlantis, I am not the one who should be leading the Justice League. Supergirl has earned that role and I have no plans to ever take it from her. She's the one who truly brought the league together and kept it together throughout the crisis." Aquaman assured the crowd before he turned the conference back over to the Girl of Steel.

"Thank you Aquaman. And while this is the first expansion of the Justice League, I'm hopeful that it won't be the last. I hope that people all over the world will see our example and choose to follow in it. That we inspire them to become their own heroes." Supergirl said.

"To be more than what they are now." Supergirl said on TV that was being watched by a young blonde girl in Blue Valley, Nebraska.

"To stand up for those in need." was watched by a black man in Metropolis while working on some kind of hammer.

"To reach beyond what we all thought was possible." was seen by a single mother in Smallville Kansas while she tried to rush her kids out the door for school.

"To stand for something bigger than themselves." was viewed by a young college couple at Hudson University who were watching on a laptop in their shared dorm room.

"To be a beacon of hope for those without any." was seen by a mother in Freeland with her two daughters. One just fresh out of college and the other still in school.

"And I make my promise that the Justice League will always be there should the world need us, but I also want to emphasize that you should not count on us to solve every little problem. Humanity should not become too dependent on us. After all, you've got your own heroes without powers. Policemen, firefighters, doctors and many others." Supergirl said as she ended her speech and with it, the press conference.

Epilogue:

"You have no authority to hold me. I am Orm, Ocean Master, the rightful King of Atlantis. I will have my throne back. You will allow me to speak to my brother." Orm shouted from inside his custom made cell in Belle Reve Penitentiary, complete with a small water tank to help keep him alive, but otherwise, he was forced to stay on land, since if he stayed in the water for too long, they'd force him out.

"Shut up inmate. You're no king here. You're just another thug." one of the guards said.

"Though someone seems to think you're worth more." the other guard said as he pulled out some kind of disc that then projected a hologram of a bearded bald man.

"Who are you and why should I care?" Orm asked him.

"My name is Lex Luthor and I believe that we can be of great use to each other. Maybe even get you your kingdom back. Interested?" Lex asked.

"Why should I trust you?" Orm asked.

"Because I know what it's like to be betrayed by someone you considered family. And what is it they say, the enemy of your enemy is my friend. Well, your brother has made friends with one of my biggest enemies and I think that together, we can do something to take them both down and get what's rightfully ours. Interested?" Lex asked him.

"Go on." Orm said, since he was intrigued.

Well, that's a wrap for the Atlantis Wars. It's back to the original three stories SuperCorp, Lauriver and WestAllen. Thank you for sticking around through this and I'm glad we made it to the end. Not sure when my next post will be, but just to reaffirm, I do intend to see this series through to an eventual end.
