Chapter 19
"Where exactly are you taking us, since we should be helping with the evacuation of the city." Supergirl asked Batman as he led her, Superman, Green Arrow, Green Lantern and Flash up to an old museum in Washington DC.
"I thought you'd like to see what I've been working on in terms of a more permanent base of operations. Welcome to the Hall of Justice." Batman said as they stopped in front of it and Batman pressed a button on his wrist, causing the image of an old museum to flicker away, being revealed as a hologram to reveal a gleaming new structure that actually read Hall of Justice on the front.
"Whoa." Flash said in shock.
"How did you get this done so quickly? The war's only been going on a few weeks?" Supergirl asked.
"What about me implies that I haven't been preparing for a situation that requires all of Earth's heroes to come together for years? This building has been under renovation for years, ever since Superman, Wonder Woman and I had our first team up as you call it. And I made more modifications to the plans as each new hero surfaced. Right now it's just the eight of us, but I think we all know that won't last for long." Batman said.
"You're not wrong. I'm already considering offering membership to the heroes who've helped us so far." Supergirl said.
"Back on topic." Green Lantern said.
"Right. Anyways, while we all have our own respective bases, if this Justice League is going to work, then we need an official headquarters for it and this seems right." Batman said.
"You're not wrong." Superman said, not at all surprised that Batman had been working on this for years.
"The only concern I have is that putting our base of operations in the capital of the United States might make it an even bigger target." Supergirl said.
"True, but it also means that this city is the most well protected, since if our headquarters is here, then that allows us all better access to the city in the event of an attack." Batman said.
"Fair enough. But why don't you show us whatever it is you have inside so we can begin preparing for war. General Lane has the entire Pentagon on lockdown. He seems to be coming around on us by the way." Supergirl said to Superman, who nodded.
"Lois said that seeing us fighting for humanity against threats we didn't 'attract' here, meaning non alien threats, has made him start to rethink his position on you and I and maybe J'onn. But she's right, we do need to prepare." Superman said.
"I know. Which is why we're here." Batman said, right as J'onn's ship touched down in front of the hall.
"Damn, what is this place?" Arthur asked as he, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Mera, Kaldur, Vulko and Atlanna got out of the ship.
"The Hall of Justice. The new official headquarters of the Justice League and unfortunately, for right now, only the founding eight members of the league have access." Batman said.
"Understood. I could use some practice to get the hang of this thing." Arthur said.
"I'll teach you." Atlanna said, since Vulko had brought her own trident with him.
"Great." Arthur said with a grin.
"Where are my sisters?" Wonder Woman asked.
"On patrol and making sure that the city is evacuated." Supergirl answered.
"Kaldur, Vulko and I will assist them. Offer what knowledge we have of their tactics to the troops that'll be doing a majority of the fighting, since I doubt that the human militaries will stand much of a chance." Mera said.
"Superdog is on patrol too, since every bit of Kryptonian muscle helps and my aunt Astra hasn't earned her freedom yet, even though we could use her." Supergirl said.
"I tried to convince the president that she could help, but they've deemed Astra as too much of a flight risk. She's lucky they allow her limited freedom with that red sun bracelet." Martian Manhunter said.
"I know. But let's get this done." Supergirl said as they walked up to the entrance, only for a scanner to appear and begin to scan each of them.
"Supergirl, 01, Batman, 02, Superman, 03, Wonder Woman, 04, Green Arrow, 05, Martian Manhunter, 06, Green Lantern, 07, Flash, 08. Access granted." the scanner called out.
"Numbers?" Supergirl asked.
"It was easier for the computer. But I'm assuming you can guess why you're number one." Batman said.
"Because I'm the leader. But let's see what you've got for us so I'll know what improvements my company needs to make." Supergirl said with a smirk, since while she and Batman were teammates, Kara Danvers and Bruce Wayne were also competitors.
"Right this way." Batman said as he showed them in.
"I'll give you a full tour later, but this is the main attraction. Our meeting/war room." Batman said as he led them into a large circular room with huge computers and a large round table with a JL insignia in the center with eight chairs surrounding it, each one with an image on the back.
"Let me guess, the images refer to who gets each chair." Supergirl said with a smile and Batman nodded.
"Your chair is at the head of the table obviously. The rest of you find your seats." Batman said as they all moved to take their seats, since each chair had their respective symbols of them, though in the case of Green Arrow, it was an image of an arrowhead.
"Now this feels right." Flash said as he got comfortable in the chair with an image of the same lightning bolt he had on his chest on it.
"Yes it does. And I noticed the controls at my seat." Supergirl said as she turned them on to reveal a holographic display of the war effort.
"Access to every Wayne Enterprises, Argo Enterprises, Star Labs, Queen Consolidated and military satellite orbiting the planet. I thought it would be useful. This is a more proper place for us to plan." Batman said.
"Agreed. Has there been any sign of attack yet?" Wonder Woman asked.
"No, not yet. I'm guessing that when Orm saw how well defended Washington DC was beyond the eight of us, he realized he'd need to reconsider. Especially considering all the additional back up we've been getting, since along with the Amazons, pretty much every active hero in the country has shown up to help." Supergirl said as she figured out how to change the display to show the images of 8 additional heroes who'd arrived to help.
"So we've got Nightwing, Robin, Batwoman, Spoiler, Earth's other Green Lantern and even Doctor Fate showed up, but who are the other two?" Wonder Woman asked.
"The guy in the visor is Black Lightning. I've met him a few times. He protects Freeland, though he's been semi-active lately. He's been active almost as long as Batman has been and he's a very skilled hero." Superman said.
"And the woman is Vixen. Her power comes from that necklace around her neck." Batman said.
"Is that the Anansi totem?" Wonder Woman asked, since she knew her mystic artifacts and Batman nodded.
"That totem allows her to summon the spirits and abilities of all the different creatures in the animal kingdom. Whether it's the strength of a gorilla, the flight of an eagle or the speed of a cheetah." Batman said.
"And I think that once this is over, we should offer all the heroes that are over 18 spots on the League, since while I think that Robin and Spoiler will make great additions some day, they deserve to be able to live semi normal lives that aren't encumbered by being leaguers." Supergirl said.
"I agree with you on that. There's a reason I didn't let Nightwing go solo until he turned 18." Batman agreed.
"What about Arthur?" Wonder Woman asked.
"I know he agreed to help us, but I don't want to assume that he wants to join in the hero life full time. If he chooses that, then yes, we'll offer him a spot, but we won't force him too." Supergirl answered.
"Fair enough. But now let's begin discussing war tactics." Batman said as they began their discussion.
