Chapter 12

Two different battles were being waged at the same time on Themyscira. One was another battle in what the media had dubbed the Atlantis Wars, a battle between the Amazons and the female members of the Justice League that aided them against the invading force of Atlantis.

The other battle was one more complicated and one as old as time. It was a battle between a mother and a daughter, though this one was a battle perhaps even more intense than the war being waged, since this was a fight that had been inevitable for years. Ever since the mother had cast the daughter out for wanting to seek her own path. And it was a battle to determine who would rule what was left of the Amazons, since the battle with Atlantis had already killed a majority of their people.

Which was why Wonder Woman was currently battling with her mother, since she knew that as long as her mother was in charge of the Amazons, that it was only a matter of time until she was the only Amazon left and after seeing how hard the burden of being the sole survivors of a group of people was on Clark and Kara, Wonder Woman refused to allow that to happen. She wouldn't allow herself to be the last daughter of Themyscira.

"It didn't have to be like this Diana. You should've spent this time at my side. Not out in the world of men." Hippolyta said to her daughter as they continued to fight, their swords clashing against each other, since Diana refused to use her shield, lasso or the powers she'd inherited from her father, Zeus, since she hadn't fully unleashed that power since she fought Ares during World War One for same reason Superman and Supergirl held back when fighting in public, since while it felt good to cutloose, they couldn't cut loose without risking hurting lots of people.

And despite everything that had happened between them, Hippolyta was still her mother and Diana didn't want to seriously hurt her. She was just hoping to either knock some sense into her mother or win her throne from her. Either way, this fight would not end until the surviving Amazons were given the order to evacuate their island and Diana was grateful that their ships were enchanted to be able travel through the air as well as the sea, since it wasn't safe to sail in the seas right now.

"You're wrong about the world of men mother. You've let your fear of the outside world make you blind to everything you are missing out on." Wonder Woman shouted back at her as in her peripheral vision she saw Supergirl, Green Lantern and Mera helping Amazons escape from rubble or knocking back invading Atlanteans, but that was when Diana saw Orm walk onto the isle, his trident glowing and Diana knew she didn't have much time left as she finally decided she needed to end this fight as she brought one of her indestructible bracelets down on her mother's sword, shattering it and sending her flying back, allowing Diana to hold the sword at her mother's throat.

"Yield now." Diana said.

"It's not over yet." Hippolyta said as she used a spin kick to knock Diana back and caused her weapons to be scattered around the area.

"Why are you so stubborn? We shouldn't be wasting time fighting each other, we should be trying to get our people to safety." Wonder Woman asked.

"We will not abandon our home. Especially since we do not have any reason to interfere in man's world. Especially since they are the ones who lured our mortal enemies to Themyscira." Hippolyta insisted as they began fighting hand to hand combat.

"Atlantis has always known our location, since our island existed in their ocean. And going into the world of men allowed me to finally find the thing I've been missing for years. Love. I fell in love, something that you always warned me against. But unlike you, I'm not too scared to open my heart to someone. The world of men might not be perfect, but at least it's not a place where people live in constant fear." Wonder Woman argued back as they continued to fight.

"Listen to yourself Diana. You've abandoned everything our people believe in." Hippolyta said.

"And my life is better because of it and if you don't let go of your stubbornness, you'll miss out on everything. My wedding and someday, Gods willing, the birth of my children." Diana said angrily as they continued to fight.

"You can't beat me Diana. I taught you everything you know." Hippolyta insisted, only for Diana to swing around her mother's shoulders and pull her to the ground.

"You taught me everything you know, but it's not everything I know. I've trained with both Batman and Superman. Learned fighting techniques you've never seen before. One of the perks of not living in a bubble my whole life." Diana said as she held her mother in a chokehold, their battle won.

"Yield the throne and this." Wonder Woman insisted, since her godly strength was too much for Hippolyta to overpower.

"I yield." Hippolyta said as she, Diana and every Amazon left on the island felt an ancient magic ripple as the mantle of queen transferred from Hippolyta to Diana and now Diana knew she had the authority to issue the evacuation order.

"All Amazons, evacuate Themyscira immediately. The island is lost, but our people don't have to be." Wonder Woman shouted and every Amazon left knew that their new queen was giving a serious order and they all knew it was the right decision, so with the help of the Justice Leaguers present and Mera, they made their way to the boats.

As the boats were being loaded, Supergirl was flying all over the island to make sure no Amazons were left behind.

"Well?" Wonder Woman asked Supergirl.

"I've searched the entire island multiple times. Atlanteans are the only people left on it. It's time to go." Supergirl said and Wonder Woman nodded as she charged the ships with her godly power to get them moving and airborne to get away from Atlantis, right as Orm sank the island.

They barely got away in time.

"It's gone." Diana said in shock that her home was gone.

But she was comforted when one of her sisters, Althea, placed her hand on her shoulder.

"But our people survive and the memory of Themyscira lives on with them. Thanks to you, my Queen." Althea said as she and the other Amazons bowed to Diana.

"We need to find a temporary safe haven for the surviving Amazons, since Orm is going to track them down and we have a war to fight." Supergirl said.

"And I need to check in with Kaldur to see if they have any ideas on where Atlan's trident is." Mera said.

"There's no need for that. I think I know how to solve both problems." Hippolyta said from where she was sitting, embarrassed by her defeat.

"You know where the trident is?" Diana asked her mother.

"After Atlantis fell, it was returned to its creators on Hephaestia." Hippolyta said.

"What's Hephaestia?" Supergirl asked.

"It's the home of the servants of Hephaestus, the blacksmith of the gods. The lost sons of Themyscira." Hippolyta said.
