Chapter 11

When Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Mera arrived at Themyscira, Wonder Woman's breath hitched at the sight of her childhood home under attack by Atlantean forces.

"By Hera, no." Wonder Woman said.

"We're too late." Mera said.

"Get in there and see if we can salvage the situation or at least, begin evacuating the island. We can't let these Amazons suffer." Supergirl said as the others nodded as they swooped in and Wonder Woman's heart broke when she saw how many of her sisters, her family, had been slaughtered by the Atlanteans.

"Every single one of my sisters who fell at the hands of the Atlanteans will be avenged." Wonder Woman swore darkly.

"And I will help you get your revenge, but for now, let's focus on evacuating this place, since I think that we're too late to save the island. It's only a matter of time until Orm decides to sink this place." Mera said.

"She's right Diana. I know it's hard to admit, but Themyscira is lost, but the Amazons don't have to be. Not if we can save them." Supergirl said and Wonder Woman nodded.

"No." a new voice said and Diana turned to see her mother charging at them, sword drawn and heading straight for Mera.

"Mother no." Wonder Woman said as she pulled out her own sword just in time to save Mera from being killed by her mother.

"Get out of my way Diana. This Atlantean scum must pay for damage wrought to our home. A home that you shouldn't even be at, since you were exiled." Hippoltya said to her.

"Really mother. Is now the time to concern yourself with that? And Mera is not a part of the Atlantean attack force. She's the one of the few who's trying to stop the war that was already happening to the rest of the outside world that you foolishly chose to ignore." Wonder Woman said angrily as Mera quickly moved to safety behind the indestructible hero she'd come with.

"We will abandon our home Diana. Every daughter of Themyscira will gladly give their life to defend their home." Hippolyta said to Wonder Woman's shock.

"You'd sacrifice all our people just to prove a point? The island is already lost, now it's at the point where getting the Amazons who've survived so far to safety so our people can live on and rebuild somewhere else." Wonder Woman insisted, unable to believe that her mother was so set in her ways that she'd sacrifice all of her people just because of some archaic tradition.

"If the Fates have decreed it, then it shall be so." Hippolyta said.

"The Fates haven't decreed anything in centuries. Their loom was destroyed long ago." Wonder Woman said, since she was well aware that Clotho had destroyed the loom of fate centuries ago and she'd actually entrusted one of the three rings that made up the loom to her for safekeeping, but Wonder Woman would never tell anyone that.

"Liar. I knew that you'd gone astray Diana, but you go too far." Hippolyta said.

"Mother please, listen to me. Give the evacuation order. It's better to sacrifice the island for the sake of our people's survival." Wonder Woman said, trying to beg her mother to listen to reason and common sense.

"I knew exposure to man's world would corrupt you Diana, but I never imagined it would be this bad. That it would turn you into someone who runs from a fight." Hippolyta said.

"No, I value the lives of our people more than just fighting a fight that can't be won." Wonder Woman said.

"I will not abandon our home." Hippolyta said and Wonder Woman sighed, since it was clear that there was only one option left.

"If you're so stubborn that you can't see that this battle is already lost and that our people are dying needlessly, then I'm left with only one course of action." Wonder Woman said as she turned to friends.

"Help my sisters, see if any of them will listen to reason while I deal with my mother." Wonder Woman said.

"What are you going to do?" Supergirl asked her.

"Something I was hoping I'd never have to do. I Diana, princess of Themyscira, challenge you for the throne of the Amazons in a trial by combat." Wonder Woman said to her mother as she got in a fighting stance.

"You really want to do this Diana?" Hippolyta asked her, even as she readied her own sword.

"No, but you've left me no other choice. I can't let our people die because of your stubbornness. May the gods forgive me for what I have to do, but you leave me no choice." Wonder Woman said as she and her mother charged at each other.
