Ghost In The Shell

Meanwhile, Barbara was in the Batcave, trying to locate Victor Stone on the Batcomputer. Alfred came in with a cup of coffee. "Here's your fifth cup of coffee Miss Gordon," said Alfred as he gave it to her. "Thank you Alfred," said Barbara as she took it in and had a sip. She kept on looking on the Batcomputer. Due to her experience as Oracle, computer hacking was second nature to Barbara. "I honestly don't understand why you must be the one to locate Mr. Stone," said Alfred, "especially since he is believed to be deceased. You were never one to believe in ghost stories, Miss Gordon."

"A year ago, I would've agreed with you," said Barbara, "but after fighting a hulking zombie and dealing with the likes of John Constantine, the idea of people coming back from the dead suddenly doesn't sound impossible." Alfred nodded and said, "And this was when one's biggest concerns were wind-up penguins." Barbara continued to drink her coffee when suddenly, the Batcomputer started to act up. Then it froze. "That's weird, I had this thing upgraded a month ago," said Barbara as she pressed control, alt, delete to have it rebooted. But the computer wouldn't cooperate. Suddenly, the screen was a black blank. Words then appeared, saying, "Barbara Gordon, I hear you're looking for me."

"I'm probably second guessing, but are you Victor Stone?" Barbara asked. The screen then replied, "I was." Barbara was fascinated. "Are you able to stream your consciousness onto technological devices? That is quite fascinating," Barbara complimented. "That's not all I can do, Batgirl," the computer replied. "Victor, I want to talk to you," said Barbara. "You are talking to me," replied the computer. "Perhaps there's a lot of gray area in those words," said Barbara, "I want to physically talk to you somewhere, face to face. I'll let you choose the location." Much later, Barbara was on the streets of Gotham, wondering where Victor was. Suddenly, a voice said, "face to face."

Barbara turned around and saw a young man around her age who was 6'3. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and jogging sweats. But he also looked like a cyborg. "So you're Victor Stone?" Barbara asked, looking at Victor. "Yeah, I am," he confirmed. "How did you get those cybernetic enhancements?" Barbara asked, admiring the cybernetics. "Wasn't pretty," said Victor, "my parents were experimenting on inter-dimensional accesses at STAR Labs. Right when I got in there, this gelatinous creature came out, killed my mom, and mauled me alive. I kid you not Gordon, it was not pretty. My dad didn't want me to die, so he used advanced prototype medical robotic prosthetics to save my life. He turned me into this... Freak! This thing! A machine! Everyday, I fear I might turn into something colder and machine-like, that I could lose my humanity!" Barbara looked at him sadly and said, "I'm sorry you had to go through all that. And I know what it's like, to lose a mother."

"Yeah, guess you do," sighed Victor. "These cybernetic enhancements... Are they capable of curing paralysis?" Barbara asked curiously. "Yeah, they are," confirmed Victor, "guess the both of us know what it's like to not walk." Barbara looked in admiration and said, "they are quite fascinating, Victor." He smirked and said, "you seem to like saying fascinating. You into Star Trek or somethin?" Barbara giggled and said, "I'm into all things science fiction. Victor, we could use someone like you. We're forming a team to stop an oncoming threat. We need you. And maybe you need us." Victor looked at Barbara and asked, "You gonna be part of this team? I'm only joining if you're part of it." Barbara gave a curious look and asked, "And why is that? Do you like me or something? Not in a romantic way or anything..." Victor smirked and said, "nah, I guess I've come to realize we're more alike in a way. I mean we're both physically disabled kind of, and are able to walk due to certain circumstances. We're just both sides of the same coin in a way. Plus you may as well be the first person to actually think I'm not a freak or a monster."

"That's because I've learned to see the good in people, and I'm quite flattered that you think we're both alike," said Barbara, "your humanity is your greatest strength Victor. And I don't mean to brag, but I'm quite good with computers myself." Victor laughed and said, "how I about I join you and we debate that."
