I was halfway through the fourth letter when I realized that I shouldn't be in my bedroom. 

"Mum!" I hollered, hoping that my voice would be loud enough to reach her downstairs. When I heard her call back, I shouted again. "We need to go to the airport!"

I quickly threw some food, water, my phone, wallet and a spare change of clothes into my backpack before running downstairs. Mum glanced at me weirdly. "Are you planning to run away from home, young man?"

"No!" I replied hastily. "Well, yes, but only for a few days! I need to get to America!"

"Valt, honey," she sighed exasperatedly as I fidgeted impatiently. We don't have time to negotiate. "Can you hear yourself?"

"Mum, please," I pleaded with her. "There's something really really urgent I need to do. Please?"

We locked eyes. I silently pleaded with her, hoping that she would get a sense with what's going on. Realization suddenly dawned in her purple orbs. She smiled. "What are you waiting for, then? Come on, let's get going! Toko and Nika can take care of themselves."

"Wha-? Really?" I asked gleefully, gratefulness bubbling away in my stomach. 

"You're lucky your dad is a pilot and is an official," she opened the front door and sat in the car. "No other pilot would let a boy without a ticket board the flight."

"Thanks mum."

"Thank your dad."
