I've been gone for too long, sowwy <3
-------------
Dear Shu,
I woke up excited and nervous. I don't know why I was nervous, I just was. I nearly forgot to take my bag with me from the nerves. Or maybe it was the excitement. Either way, I felt extremely jittery this morning.
But excitement soon overrode the nervous feeling. I was finally going to be able to see you again! After three whole years! Wow. It's been so long, I wonder if you've changed. I don't think I have, though.
That's probably why I was late. Again. Everyone else was in homeroom, even Wakiya who had been staying at his cabin in the woods. And there you were. Looking the exact same you did three years ago, just more grown up. And mature. And ho- never mind.
You were engaging in a conversation with Daigo. You laughed, and it made my heart flutter. I shook that feeling away and walked up to you. It felt like pure happiness when I saw you. I'm pretty sure I looked silly with a huge, goofy grin on my face.
"H-Hi," I grinned even wider. You smiled back.
"Hey."
"Do you remember me?" I blurted out, not being able to keep it in. I watched anxiously as you raised an eyebrow and shook your head.
"Sorry. I don't."
It was like sadness engulfed me. My vision was blurred and the all too familiar sensation of hot water pricking my eyes overtook me. I shouldn't have felt so sad and upset, it's not like I was expecting us to be best friends right away.
Besides, it's been three years. Of course you would've forgotten me. I'm sure you met more memorable people in New York. But I still couldn't help feeling so disappointed. It's stupid and silly, but I guess I was at least expecting you to remember your bestfriend since preschool. You even remember Ken, and he moved schools.
You didn't remember the hours we had spent together, the laughs we had shared, all the nights you had slept over. All of it. Gone. Forgotten. I thought you had a good memory, but apparently not.
I tried to stop crying. I really did. If you forgot me, maybe we could've started off fresh and I could've made a better impression. Now it was ruined. I'm sure you thought I was a stupid little crybaby who cried over things like that. Which was true, in a way.
I'm so glad Free came. I don't know why he came, but I was just glad to feel his arms around me. It was comforting. But he had this weird, intimidating and scary look in his eyes. I felt like he was going to beat you up but I said, "Leave it."
The rest of the day was so boring. I really didn't want to see your face again, in fear I would start being a sobbing baby again. Sorry that I avoided you constantly. I deserved what I got when you sat with Xander during lunch, someone you actually remembered.
I really wanted to talk to you. I really did. But I just couldn't. I wanted to talk to you about how crazy the past few years have been without you, to tell about everything with Free. But even when we were alone, I just could not speak.
Tomorrow, I want to make an effort to regain my best friend. I will hang out with and I will talk to you. Just because you never returned my feelings doesn't mean I don't want to be friends with you.
