Monday evening

Dear Valt,

I can't help but notice how stiff you were at school. You were zoning out even more often than usual, and even in PE you couldn't keep up. I wonder if it has something to do with the person we saw on the weekend.

I've also noticed how tense you act around Free. As if you're on guard, careful about how you act and what you say. Did something happen between you two? Perhaps Free was the person we saw yesterday? It would make sense, wouldn't it?

If you're wondering where I was at lunch, I was with Xander. I had only chatted with him for a little the other time, and even though I'm closer to you, he's still one of my best friends, even if you two are pretending like the other never existed. His group's quite active and sporty, I'm not surprised they all excel in fighting. Xander seems sad whenever I mention you. He still wants to be friends with you, Valt. 

I wish you would see that all he wants is to protect you.
