Chapter Thirteen
Enid lay in her bed, drifting off to sleep, while Carl lay beside her with Lori in his arms. Lori slept peacefully, and it made Carl calm. Relaxed. And most of all it made him happy.
He heard Enid groan, and he turned his head to face her. Her eyes were slightly open and a big smile was spread across her face.
"She's okay?" Enid asked, her voice still scratchy and tired.
"She's perfect." Carl said with a smile.
"Good," Enid said. She seemed as if she was about to sit up, but plopped right back down on her pillow. "Then I'm gonna get some rest."
Carl nodded. "Good. When you wake up we can show them."
"Show.... who what?" Enid asked between yawns.
"Show Lori to the rest of her family," Carl said hesitantly, knowing his own daughter wouldn't have his mother Lori with him.
"Yeah." Enid mumbled.
"Want her beside you? She seems to want you." Carl said with a smile.
"No. Keep her, keep her. I don't want to roll on top of her," Enid said giggling under her breath.
"That's fair." Carl said and chuckled as well. "I love you Enid."
Enid would've answered, but she was too far gone by then.

Carl's eyes shot open, as if he had had a bad dream, and when he looked into his arms, still in the cradling shape, Lori wasn't there.
"No, no..." he mumbled, sitting up, his hands beginning to become clammy.
"Chill, chill." Enid said and rested a hand on Carl's shoulder. "She's right here." And there lay Lori, wrapped in Enid's arms.
Carl sighed and smiled. "My two beautiful women." He said.
"What?" Enid asked, holding back laughter.
"Enid, we have a kid." Carl said playfully. "I can call you my woman. It's not anything unusual."
"Okay, my man." Enid said with a forfit of laughter.
Then there was a knock on their door. A knock that shook them both. Shook them with both excimer and fear.
"You ready?" Carl said, grabbing onto Enid's hand. She gave him a soft smile.
"No." She said. "But it's now or never."
Carl nodded. He faced the door and said, "Come on in."
First it was Rick, he came in with tears in his eyes and fell to his knees beside the bed, holding onto Enid's hand. "What... what's her name?"
"Lori," Enid said with a soft smile and Carl nodded.
"Lori Grimes." Carl said, and Rick faced him with a placid smile and tears.
Rick stroked Lori's face hesitantly. He hugged Enid and then Carl. He decided to stay with them.
Next, Tara and Rosita walked in. They congratulated them and kissed Lori's forehead. Daryl came in afterwards, he heard the name as Lori and gave Rick a confused look, and Rick only nodded silently.

"There's not many more of us anymore," Carl said holding Lori tightly in his arms that night. Enid slept right beside him, holding his arm.
"I know. That's why we have to continue to populate the Earth." Enid whispered.
"We can't always do that," Carl said.
"I know." Enid said, and there was a pause. "I know... I just wish the world wasn't like this. Then we could be happy."
"But if the world was normal we wouldn't be here together today." Carl said, and gave Enid a small, but comforting, smile.
"Yeah." Enid said, and squeezed Carl's arm tightly. "Well, I'm glad we are."
"Me too." Carl said. "Me too...."
