Chapter Six
(Enid's POV)
Blackness was over me until suddenly, it just wasn't. Light filled my eyes, and it took a moment until the world came into view. I looked down, I was covered in soft blankets on my bed. I looked to my left and right, but I was all alone.
All of a sudden, a burning pain rose from my stomach and leg, and I winced. I looked down and saw bandages, wrapped around my leg and my stomach. My eyes widened.
The baby.
I swiftly rose up my shirt and looked at the bandages covered in blood. I felt tears, but I pushed them away. I'm fine, you're fine... this must just be a dream... you're okay.... okay.... everything... everything is okay... I told myself as I pulled my shirt back down with shaky hands.
I was going to see my leg, but I couldn't bend over far enough do to my stomach.
I don't remember what happened. I tried to remember so hard, but nothing. Nothing could persuade me that this or that happened. I didn't understand. Nothing was clear to me. Had I .... had I lost my baby?
"Carl!" I heard myself shout. There was no response. "Carl?" I said a bit louder, still nothing. "Carl?!" I tried screaming louder, but it only came out as a whisper do to the throbbing of my stomach.
There was silence for only moments later before I heard the door downstairs slam open, and heard Maggie and Carl's voices.
Carl's voice seemed to be unstable, he seemed broken, in fear.
They reached me, and when Carl saw me awake he ran over to me and gave me the biggest hug I think he's ever given me.
"Enid! Enid, you're okay?"
"I... I don't know..." I whispered, but that only lead us in to a kiss. It wasn't a kiss like we'd had before, we were passionate about it. And I loved it. "What happened?" I asked after taking a breath from the kiss.
"Enid... you were shot." Maggie said. "Twice."
My heart skipped a beat. "My stomach.... it got shot?" I asked, and all that was going through my mind was the baby.
"Yes..." Maggie said, her head lowered and tears welling up in her eyes.
I looked at Carl with shocked eyes, and he gave me a concerned look back. I didn't see any tears in his eyes, so I assumed the baby was still alive. I gave him a soft smile, but he didn't return one to me. This lowered my positive thoughts.
"I didn't.... I didn't loose.... I didn't....." I tried to question, but I just couldn't bear to say it. I didn't want to lower the chances.
"Enid... I want you to calm down, okay? I need you to calm down, okay?" Maggie said, coming to me and stroking my hair.
"Okay." I said, feeling very uncomfortable. I wasn't freaking out. I thought I was handling this decently well. Besides, it was just a shot to the stomach. Nothing bad.
Carl took hold of my hand, but for some reason he couldn't look into my eyes. He just kept avoiding eye contact. It's not that he was trying to, he just for some reason couldn't handle looking at me. There were tears coming out of his eyes and his lip was quivering.
"Maggie? What's going on? Why are you crying?" I asked her, my heart beginning to pound on my chest.
"Enid.... listen to me.... okay? Just... just listen.. listen to me... Everything's... everything's gonna be okay...." Maggie continued to stutter, but Carl pulled her out of the way and set his hand on my stomach. I flinched, but I let him. His shoulders tensed.
"Enid...... it's.. it's about the baby..." Carl whispered into my ear.
The next words made my heart sink.
"We lost it."
*********
Hope you liked this chapter. It made me really sad to write this :( But as you know, it's not over! There will be a lot more coming for the future! Don't stop reading just because of the loss. Just wait ;)
I thought having this in Enid's chapter would make more sense, since you know she hasn't been awake for like a couple chapters. But yeah! I hope you like and I can't wait to write more for you all! :D
