Chapter Seventeen

Enid lay on the hard, broken floor. They had found a small stone building, covered in moss and tree vines. But it was safe for now, and looked unused.
Millions of thoughts raced through Enid's mind. Mostly about what she had tried to do earlier. That stuck out majorly, and the only thing she really wanted was to take it away, give it to someone who deserved the pain.

All she wanted was to forget.

But Carl made that uneasy as he stayed near her the room, which there were only three, hands in his hair, pacing around.

Enid clutched Lori's meager hand which was in her arms.

Carl stopped and looked at Enid, his face was full of anger, and he looked more bewildered than distraught. He sighed, ran his hands through his hair one more time, and let out a deep sigh.

"Look at her," he said, referring to Lori in Enid's arms.

"Carl, I didn't mean it." Enid said, shuffling around in the bed, causing Lori to wimper. Enid held her tighter.

"Really? Then what was that out there?" Carl asked, anger growing in his tone. "You just all of a sudden decided to give up? After all we've been through? After this baby? After our baby?!"

Carl, it's not like that.. Enid wanted to say, but she couldn't bear to guff to him any longer. He felt shame over her, and she felt the same towards herself. She could hardly believe she almost gave up this baby. She just shook our head.

"Answer me," Carl said. "Did you really want to die? To get eaten by Walkers? Is that they way you want to die? Because I'm sure that'll be easy." Enid sighed.

"No, Carl." She mumbled. "That's not the way I want to die."

"Wouldn't you rather die fighting for us?" Carl asked, ignoring Enid's comment. "Fighting for your freedom from the Saviors? Fighting for yourself? For Lori? For me? For us?"

"So many questions," Rick said, making Enid jump, entering the room. "She's stressed, don't you get it? Leave her be." Carl nodded and left with his dad. And Enid was alone.

Enid was alone to think about her decisions, to decide on whether she was wrong or right to feel and do that. I almost gave up my life to the Walkers, almost got devoured by them, and yet, I seemed perfectly fine with that. But now, now that I can happily look at my daughter and my boyfriend, I can see I was wrong. Very wrong. I'm so lucky Carl was there to help me, she thought solemnly.

Soon, before she realized it, she was fast asleep.

"We can't go back," a voice said.

"We have to," a voice argued. "Don't you want to take that risk? Some of our good people are still back there." That voice sounded like Rick, demanding and a lot of strength and confidence, but also agreement.

"The good people? We don't have any good people any longer," a voice said.

Enid's eyes shot open as she listened to the voices, she looked down in her now empty arms and her heart rate began to soar. She looked up and saw Carl holding Lori in the corner, feeding her a bottle of milk. She sighed.

"What are they arguing about?" She asked, and Carl shook his head.

"Don't worry about it," he mumbled.

"I want to know," Enid protested.

"Then go up there. Argue yourself." Carl snarled, tickling Lori's stomach gently.

Enid rolled her eyes and stood from the ground, she left the room she once slept in, and where Carl was with Lori, and went to the next room, which just happened to be the kitchen.

Enid slyly stepped inside and saw as everyone continued to argue. Rick, Daryl, Rosita, Tara, Eugene, Eric, and Sasha, talking amongst themselves. Enid looked around. This was all. All that had made it out alive. She wanted to announce it, too.

"This is all that's left?" Enid said, worry filling her voice, and the room fell silent as they turned to face her.

"You're up," Sasha said, a smile on her face. "You're feeling okay?"

"Who cares how I feel?" Enid said, her eyes showing the anger. "This isn't about me. It isn't about Lori. It isn't about Carl. It's about all of us. We're all together. We survived." Enid remarked some of Carl's sayings. "We survived this long, and we're not going to stop now. Whoever caused this mess..."

"The Saviors," Carl said, walking out of the room with Lori still attached to him. "It was the Saviors."

"Th... the Saviors? The...they came? How.. how do you know them?" Enid asked stiffly.

"You know the Saviors?" Carl asked, his blue eyes full of curiosity.

Enid paused and shuffled her feet. She simply nodded her head and walked back to the room. Something was wrong.
