Chapter Nineteen
Enid entered the dim room, the sun going down and the sky turning a aqua-magenta color. Enid felt warm inside, but that didn't stop her heart from beating against her chest wildly. She was about to see Negan.
Rough, scratchy breathing rose from the shadows. Enid saw a firm hand gripped tightly around a baseball bat covered in barbed wire. She remembered that bat. Lucille.
Enid felt herself jump when a slight cackle caught her back from her trance on the bat.
"You're back," the voice said. It was brutal, and the voice cut into Enid's heart. It was the voice of a murderer.
Enid felt herself nod. "Yes, sir." Was all she managed to muster. Even so, it came out wavered.
"Why?" The voice said after a pause, and soon he was out of the shadows.
There was a large figure, the bat still gripped tightly in her grasp, and the face just as Enid had remembered. His eyes were full of animosity, fury, rage. Yet, he still had that simple placid smile. No. It was far more than simple. It was deadly.
Enid gulped. She hadn't rehearsed what she was going to say on the way. She now just had the words that would exit her mouth.
"I... I came here to confirm something," she said, and her voice was hardly hearable. It was more of a whisper.
"What could you possibly want?" Negan said, making the words short and choppy, he aimed Lucille up to point up at Enid.
"It's... it's about the homes that you destroyed," Enid said. Negan's smile grew wider, and Enid's heart rate sped up.
When Negan said nothing, Enid continued. "That... that place was called-"
"The Hilltop." Negan said harshly. "Yeah, we used to trade all the time. Until.... they forgot. They had nothing for us when we arrived, in fact most of you were gone. We had no choice but to-"
"You did have a choice!" Enid shouted, but quickly backed down. "I lived there. Me, my family..."
"You're family's dead." Negan said with cruelty, making Enid silver. "They haven't been around for a long while."
Enid felt burning tears, but she sucked them back and continued. "I know. But neither have yours. You're still surviving, living here. So why can't I? And my family?"
"Friends aren't family."
"I have a daughter!" Enid screamed unintentionally, and then her heart raced. She felt herself being pulled closer, and before she knew it she was face to face with Negan. The smell of blood and smoke made Enid's nose scrunch, but she could hardly care anymore.
"You have a daughter?!" Negan cackled, and Enid's heart sank. "So you really do have a family. Wow." Negan paused. "So where are you all living anyway?"
Enid felt herself fall to the ground on her knees, and her hands covered her face. She didn't care what Enid thought, all she wanted to do was go back. Back to her boyfriend. Her baby. Her family.
"Huh? You gonna tell me?"
Enid said nothing, but sobs escaped her throat.
"Fine. Have it your way."
Enid felt a sharp pain in her side, she let out a scream.

Daryl, Rick, Sasha, and Carl were traveling the roads fast. Looking for signs of Enid. A bootprint, a clothing piece, anything. But there was nothing. Until Carl came upon a tree.
"JSS?" He asked unintelligibly, scraping the words.
"What the hell does mean?" Daryl asked, coming to it.
"I don't know," Carl said. "Let's keep going."
They walked again. Swifter, this time. Boots and shoes clanging against the road. Running fast, not making stops for anything. That's when they saw it.
They saw Enid.
