Chapter Fifteen
Enid denied the food in front of her. It was kind of Carl to get it for her, and she begged for it, but she just wasn't hungry. She felt her chest tighten. Why would Rick only call Carl? I could help, too... But Enid knew the reason. She had a baby to take care of. But why did Rick seem so flushed? So worried? So rushed? Enid asked herself, but her thoughts shook away as Lori hit made cooing noises.
Enid smiled. "Hey baby. You hungry?" She asked, tickling Lori's chin. "You want some milk?"
"Ooooh!" Lori cried. Enid knew Lori didn't understand the words she was saying, but Enid felt like she needed to talk to her anyways.
Enid stood from her chair and walked to the fridge, she pulled a bottle of milk out and stuck it in the microwave. She had not wanted to breastfeed and the girls had said that was completely fine. After a minute longer, she pulled it out and made sure it wasn't too hot. She gave it to Lori and helped her drink.
"You're such a cutie," Enid giggled as milk ran down Lori's chin. Enid waited until Lori was finished to wipe it. "Let's go sit down and wait for daddy, okay?"
"Baaaaa." Lori cooed and Enid chucked.
Enid pulled Lori to her side and held her there as she walked to the couch. She sat down and put Lori on her lap to where there eyes were connected. Enid smiled.
"You're so precious..." she muttered. "It's too bad we live in a world like this. I wasn't ready." Enid couldn't deny it, she really wasn't. "But now you're here, and it's my responsibility to take care of you. It's mine fully. I'm never letting you go. I love you, Lori."
"Aaaaaah." Lori said back, and Enid smiled. She pressed Lori's head to her chest and the two lay there and soon fell asleep.

Enid's eyes shot open in the sounds of a screaming baby. And not just any, but her sleeping baby. Enid's vision grew blurry as her eyes opened, but she tried to keep them steady. She felt dizzy as she looked down at her baby who was only crying because she had awakened all up by herself. Enid heard a loud crash outside and looked out the window. A struck of lightning hit not too far away, and the thundering came soon after. The baby shook in Enid's arms and cried louder.
It might've been Lori crying, but somehow Enid felt terrified. She had a massive fear of thunderstorms, and without Carl, how could she take care of the baby?
"Waaaa!" Lori screamed at the top of her lungs, and Enid covered her ears.
"Shh, Lori, it's okay! Please be quiet!" Enid shouted, a little too harshly. Lightning came again, and Lori roared in fear.
"No no! Shhh! Shh!" Enid cried, her hands still over her ears. The house began to rumble, shake, and pictures fell off the walls.
"Carl!" Enid screamed, even though she knew he wasn't there. The house bounced and Lori fell out of Enid's arms onto the hardwood floor, the let out a wailing scream.
"CARL!!" Enid screamed once more, before falling to the ground with a thud.
Baby screams were the only thing she could hear now.
*******
Enid woke up once more, but this time, there was no screaming. She held her head and pain and looked to the side. There was Lori. Sleeping peacefully on the carpet floor.
The house was just as Enid had left it when she slept, pictures shattered, mirrors bounced off tables and shattered onto the floor, and her heart beat was the only thing that had changed. She was still worried for Carl. She hoped that after all this shit she had just gone through, that he was okay.
Enid picked up Lori, her opened her big, soft, welcoming blue eyes and a beautiful smile.
"Man skew lack!" Lori cried happily, reaching her hand up to touch Enid's cheek.
Enid giggled, but the touch burned. Enid held up one of the broken pieces of glass and looked at herself. There was a large cut on her cheek, a bad wound that could be a forever scar from where she hit the floor so hard. No wonder her face felt numb. She shuffled along, holding Lori in her hands, and stepped out the doors.
What she saw next shocked her.
