THE LISTENER

When your heart is heavy
And its contents need to be emptied out;
When no one listens to your cries of pain
Even when you scream it out,
Then spill it all to the night
And ever so patiently will it hear you out.

The Moon will give you a soothing smile
And heal your wounds with its silver light.
The wind will caress your face and dry a tear
And whisper a word of comfort in your ear
The sky will embrace you and engulf your pain
And let your tears soak it wet without complain.

Never in your life, such a person you'll find
Who listens as silently as the night.
And when you're done it will play you a tune, soft and sweet.
Of chirping crickets, of rustling leaves.
Then in its starry blanket it will drape you
And to a deep sleep it will lull you.
