Outside by @Fandomacc

Fandomacc wrote this short story that leaves you on a cliffhanger, and wanting to know what happens next.

Amelia inhales deeply, the thought of the outdoors terrifying. Everything about going outside seems so...daunting.

She wipes her sweaty palms on her dress, the soft fabric rubbing against her rough hands. The stairs seem never-ending and when she gets to the bottom, she sighs in relief.

All she wants is to be normal. Is that so hard?

Yes. Yes it is. Because everything around her always makes her feel so claustrophobic, as if everyone and anyone will pounce on her at any moment.

She rubs her face, a habit adapted since she was small, alone.

The door is so simple. So easy to open. So normal.

But it's also mocking. Teasing and taunting her. The fact that she can't go outside makes it seem like it's laughing at her, giggling at every trembling step she takes.

If this is just the front door, how will she go outside?

Small voices echo in the back of her mind. All sorts of incidents and accidents appear and the thought of just being outside feels impossible.

Amelia snaps out of her daze, a person dragging her away from the spiralling black hole of negativity. A warm presence from behind holds onto her shoulder, comforting her instantly. "You can do this Amelia. I'm so proud you're giving it a go!"

Her Step-Mom stands in front of her with a bright smile, hugging her in happiness.

A small light of hope ignites in Amelia and she holds on tightly to Anna's hand, stepping forward. The door doesn't seem so scary anymore, just something that is terrifying, easily come over by a comforting presence.

Inhaling deeply one more time, she holds her head high and tries her hardest to ignore the small voices urging her to go back in.

The door swings open and the sight of cars and people invade her vision. Her safety bubble bursts but she steps forward, testing her limit.

She can do this. She can be normal.
