Curiosity Kills by @TheVampireLuna
TheVampireLuna wrote this thrilling and tragic story that plays on a common saying. I really liked this, and the last sentence is very poignant.
"Casey! Get back here!" I yell to my kitten in training. Just when I was starting to enjoy my walk, Casey had to go run after something. The 'something' looked like a small human, but what unnerved me was the pitch black cloak it had around itself. Casey was about 20 feet in front of me, it's amazing how fast a kitten is.
Casey then stopped and looked around as if she lost sight of the figure. She began to whimper as I reached her. I immediately put the leash on her so she won't run again. Casey continues to whimper and draws closer to me. I began to walk back the way we came, but stopped when I heard voices speaking in unison nearby.
The voices were coming from the East, and me being the curious person I am, I followed them. I walked around a couple trees and came up on a group of 8 people in a circle. I backed up till I was behind a thick tree, and pulled Casey with me.
The voices stopped, and I heard feet shuffling. They were moving closer and closer to the tree I was behind. Casey started wiggling in my arms as if trying to get out, I lost my grip on her and she ran off. I tried not to make a sound when I see two of the cloaked figures go after her with inhuman speeds.
I heard a small howl, and I gasped. I put a hand on my mouth to muffle it. Then I felt a hand on my arm. I screamed and wrenched my arm away. I ran as fast as I could, I made the mistake of looking back. I saw the remaining 6 figures racing after me at top speeds. I turn back around and continue to run. I see Casey's collar with blood spattered on and around it.
I can feel the tears start to fall down my face. I'm then pushed to the ground and with a sword to my neck. In my final moment, I remembered one thing.
Curiosity kills the cat.
