Broken by @Tissuepaper4

Tissuepaper4 wrote this emotional and moving piece about what bullying can do to a person. I love the last paragraph so much so make sure you read till the end!

Trigger warning: Bullying, Self- Harm and Suicide.

"What are you?"

"Freaks like you don't deserve to roam the Earth."

"I can't believe I breathe the same oxygen as you."

Every day. Every night. Insults and threats would be thrown at them in all directions.

Hunapo Davies had led a relatively normal life, saying that they were agender and hid their biological sex. No one had really minded or cared, until one day someone got too curious. It started with a small and innocent date, until it grew bigger and bigger. They were deceived, lied to, cheated.
And worst of all, sexually assaulted.

News that they were a hermaphrodite had spread like wildfire. Most of their friends were gone, only a few stayed. They used to be so social and cheerful... Now, they were broken. Their mind and soul were slowly cracking as the days went by. They had been reduced to an empty shell of what they used to be. They couldn't take the pressure anymore.

They wanted it to end.

They wondered why they didn't just kill themselves immediately. They started with their upper arm, then as they ran out of space, they started cutting their forearm. They limited themselves to one cut per day, but the pain was still unbearable. The cold, hard steel that cut into their arm, leaving wounds that might never fully heal. This caused another problem.

Drug abuse.

With their father being a doctor, morphine was within their reach. They had taken it to stop the pain at first, but ended up taking a pill once per day to stop the pain growing and burning in their heart. But alas, the pain of a broken soul can never be lifted with painkillers.

They were addicted to it. They couldn't go a day without it. Their mind and body had become depended on the drug. They would feel nauseatic, they would sweat, they would vomit. The days went by, the space for cuts were decreasing. All that's left was the wrist.
But something had stopped them from doing it. A transfer student in their class, Logan Cooper.

He was easily the only person in the school who didn't know about their secret. They had tried talking to him, but always stopped themselves. What if he already knew? What if he already thought of them as a freak?

While it was true that Logan served a good distraction from their stress, they were still constantly reminded about it by the bullies and their former friends. They couldn't end it yet. But they couldn't take it at the same time. So, they did what they considered as the middle. Reopen closing wounds.
They reopened one wound for each lie they told their friends and father.

"I'm fine."

One cut.

"Don't worry about me."

Two cuts.

"I can take it."

Three cuts.

"I don't really mind the bullying."

Four cuts.

"They'll never pull me down!"

Five cuts.

Sometimes, they could even feel Logan sitting next to them, telling them to stop. It was odd. That a figment of their own imagination could stop them from their own death. Sometimes, they felt like his presence was just like the sun, bringing warmth to them.

One night, they sat on the edge of their balcony, their legs dangling in the air. They admired the scenery, feeling the chilly wind kiss their cheeks. The large pond below them reflected the radiant and shimmering moonlight. The streets were quiet at this time of the day, but their father had a midnight operation, so he wasn't home even at such at such a late hour.

They closed their eyes. Maybe they should stop cutting? Maybe there was something to life after all? The usual questions they asked themselves rang in their mind. As they were thinking, they could feel him again. Logan-no, a figment of their imagination- had wrapped his arms around them, whispering sweet nothings and comforting words into their ear.

They could feel the warmth and love emitting from him. It's a wonder what a human's mind can create, right? They were so indulged in their own fantasy that they never wanted it to end.
That they never felt themselves let go until they hit the cold water below.
