A Friendly Ai by @Mayote_Shoujo

Mayote_Shoujo wrote this heartwarming story about making friends and learning to be more confident. A lovely read.

She was just a lonely girl, who longed for a friend. Finn would just sit at the corner of her classroom, looking out the window. Three years of her junior high school life, she was alone. The raven would find her amusement not in talking to people, but playing with animals. It was not that she was a weird girl or anything. She just didn't know how to strike a conversation.

Finn would cast her beautiful, shining brown orbs down, staring at the ground whenever someone talked to her. And she too didn't know what to do when someone walk up to her for a talk. She just kep silent. Thus Finn was always alone.

Fortunately it was the last day of school, before she transferred to a different high school. As everyone walked out of the building the girl, as always, left the school alone.

'Maybe I can visit the woods nearby today.' she thought on her way.

Near her school there was a wood. It was not dangerous at all. Rabbits and raccoons would be seen once in a while. And she often found herself wandering around there, and that day she did as well.

"If only I knew how to make friends with people," she murmured to herself.

As she walked and walked, something felt strange. The scenery wasn't the one she usually saw when she took a stroll there. Anxious, Finn quickened up her pace. Only to found herself lost in the depth of the woods. Tears welled in her eyes as she was worried that she wouldn't be able to go home.

Finn saw something in the corner of her eye. In the distance, a small, old, vintage looking building. And it somewhat looked magical. The girl did not know why, but she walked slowly towards that place.

"Oh, a visitor?" A voice said as she was behind the fence.

The girl look at the young female before her. Long, silky brown hair, in a frilly red dress with white ribbons and black boots.

"Come in. I'll prepare some tea," She continued.

Finn just nodded and did as she was told, not wanting to be impolite. Inside the 'house', many furnitures and items were seen. Coffee tables, lamps, wall clock- even beds.

"I-is this a store of yours?" Finn asked, stuttering a bit.

"Why yes. You've come here since you need help."

"And I go by the name Elisia," said the burnette girl.

"Help?" She repeated.

"Those who have strong desires or wishes will be led here by my powers."

"What is your desire?" Elisia asks.

There was a short moment of silence between the two as the shopkeeper pour some tea into their cups.

"I want to make friends with my new classmate in the future."

"But can you really help me?"

Somehow she did not stutter like she used to be. Elisia chuckled and walk over to a shelf. She picked up something before returning to her seat. The mysterious girl put a sky blue smartphone on Finn's hand. The raven simply look at the girl before her with her black orbs.

"But when you accept my offer, I shall take something from you as a payment," Elisia spoke before she had the chance to say a word.

"Payment? As in money?"

"No, you'll see."

Her words left Finn wondering. She walk home and exchange a few words with her mother before going up to her room. She turned on her new smartphone, wondering how it would help her with her social life.

When she was taken to the home screen, there was a strange girl on it. Pink hair tied into a neat twintails, shining golden orbs, and a cyborg-like body with blue lines

"Hi there master! Oh, finally someone opens this phone!"

"I'm and artificial intelligence made by master Elisia!"

"Haven't seen any owner other than master Elisia! Hey, what's your name?" The voice asked.

"U-um,my name is Finn. W-what's yours?"

"Master Elisia called me a lot of stuff. But just call me AI ('ai' as in love)."

"So pleased to meet you, master Finn!" The figure grinned.

"P-please. Don't be so formal," The raven spoke again.

"Just call me Finn, okay?"

"Gotcha!"

"So master Elisia had informed me all about your social problems. Let's work that for the holidays, shall we?"

"First, I will design a simulation to help you. And then give you advice."

Ai was rambling a lot of things, leaving the raven to find herself chuckling. The little program designed a friend simulation game to help her in starting a conversation. Not only that, she gave her a tip or two on clothes, and how to be friendly.

"D-do you think this colour suits me?" Finn asked.

"Not. At. All. Finn, your style is more of a comfy and calm colours. Not flashy!"

"Well, maybe a soft magenta?"

"Well, that could work!"

The holidays flew by so quick. Finn had learn how to communicate on social media. But the real thing is easier said than done.

"You've been talktavie lately," Her mother spoke.

"Well,i-i want to make a good impression at my new school," She giggled.

"You'll do fine!" Her mother smiled and pat her head.

The first day of high school. The class was filled by students. Again she sat at the corner of the room, near the window.

"Now I'd like everyone to come up to the front and introduce themselves," Said their teacher.

"Hi, my name is Angela."

"I go by the name Hilda."

"I'm Gino. Nice to meet you all."

Finn walked to the front slowly, nervous as hell. Feeling all the gazes piercing her was frightening, to say the least. The girl took a deep breath, and introduced herself.

"H-hi. My name is Finn. It's nice to meet you all."

Seeing some of them smiling, her heart jumped for joy. The first time for her actually, someone smiled at her words.

The class went as what it should. On break time, a group of girls walked to her table. Finn felt her body shaking, anxious fillinf her up.

'You can do it Finn!'

She calmed herself down, reading Ai's message.

"Hey, I'm Hilda! Finn, right?" The first girl spoke.

"Y-yeah."

"These are my friends, Sam and Yuni."

"Hey, we're going to a pop concert this evening, and we have a spare ticket. Wanna come?" Sam asked.

"YES!"

Finn covered her mouth at her sudden outburst. Well, she is a bit obsessed with music, especially pop.

"Cool! Meet ya at 6 in front of the park, kay?" Yuni smiled.

"Yeah," was all she could reply.

At home, Finn jump into her bed, giggling and smiling to herself.

"Congrats,Finn. Your first friend!" Ai said through the phone.

"Thanks for helping me out,Ai." The raven replied.

"Well, you don't need me anymore, then."

"Huh?"

The screen became static, and started to become blurry and glitched out. Ai's figure was fading away by the second.

"W-wait, Ai. Stay with me!" Finn clutched her smartphone.

"Finn, you'll do fine from now on."

"Remember,I only stay with you until you're good enough to find your own friends."

"And you did."

"I'll be going now."

"I've fulfilled my job here."

"Just don't be a whimp, okay?"

"For my sake."

Ai smiled for the last time, before her glitch voice and image went black. Finn cried that afternoon. But she made a promise. To both her new friends and Ai.

"You look bumped out. Somethin' wrong?" Hilda asked.

"A good friend moved out of town." She replied.

"Well, don't be so sad. You have us now." Sam cheered.

"We'll be best friends from now on!" Yuni added.

The four walked into the cinema, but Finn couldn't help but stare at her phone. To be precise, the keychain hanging from it. Pink twintails, golden eyes, and blue, android-like body.

She thanked Ai for all her help. And Elisia for giving her that phone, who had Ai inside of it.

Little did she know, Ai didn't disappear. She just returned to where Elisia was. The 'witch' girl was writing on her journal, as she watched over Finn, happy that she had decided to lend her a hand that day. On the diary she had, was written.

"As a payment, I took away the doubt and her anxiety in her heart. She'll make bold and big moves from now and on. But will not abandon her friends, for from the start, Finn had a great loyalty.

Finding friends is easy, finding a best and true friend is hard. She'll face hardships in her life. But I'm sure Finn can handle it.

That concludes this customer. I am proud to say that she is satisfied."

She closed her diary as someone walked inside her store. Elisia smiled and brushed her brown bangs away, revealing her shining blue orbs before she welcomed the girl. She, of course, like every customer who had come there, had a wish.

But that wish and story is for another time.
