THREE. the one where lennon and julie are "friends"

LENNON HAD woken up earlier than usual. If she was going to meet with Julie, who stayed a couple of blocks down, she had to wake up at the crack of dawn. She really had no choice.

Lennon wanted answers and Julie probably had at least one. It was obvious that Julie didn't hear any of the singing from Luke, or from anyone of that matter. So, she probably didn't have a soulmate at the moment.

The only thing Lennon could think about the entire night ( other than the boy singing in her head all night ) was the blog post that she had read. She couldn't have a soulmate. She could have a soulmate, just one that was alive, but according to the internet ( her only reliable source ), she indeed, has a dead soulmate.

She didn't want to tell Luke about them being possible soulmates because she thought it would only drive him away. Where else could he go? He was already dead. Regardless, she had a good time talking to him last night. The two connected so easily. She didn't want that to go away. Soulmate or not.

Lennon grabbed her backpack and everything she needed for today and headed downstairs. The creaking of the steps didn't help as she was hoping not to wake her father, but he was already downstairs making breakfast.

"You're up early."

Lennon nodded, "Walking to school with Julie."

"Julie Molina?"

Lennon grabbed a plate from her father and sat down at the island.

"Uh, yeah." She answered, "School stuff."

"School stuff or girl stuff?"

"Both."

He nodded, "I heard you talking to someone last night. Couldn't have been Julie."

Lennon shoved the food in her mouth. Hopefully giving her enough time to figure out what to say to him.

She didn't realize he was home. Probably because she was so engrossed in conversation with Luke or she was so caught up in the fact that she was in the same room with her soulmate.

"I was listening to a podcast." She replied, "A music podcast."

He nodded. He had noticed Lennon getting back into the groove of listening to music more often, even playing the piano and guitar more. Most likely due to the fact someone was singing to her almost twenty-four seven. He was happy that she was getting her groove back.

"Hey, nice talk, but I've got to go if I want to make it to school on time."

She put her plate in the sink and headed towards the door, "Have a good day." Her father said.

She smiled before waving goodbye and shutting the door behind her.

The walk to Julie would be fairly long. So, she grabbed her earbuds and scrolled on the notes app on her phone.

Fitting, sorta. As the beat of the song made her move faster than she was before. She mumbled the lyrics under her breath and danced her way to the Molina household.

Once she arrived, she took her earbuds out and opened the gate that lead to the garage.

She looked over at the boys who stood in front of the garage. A conversation brewing between them.

Luke caught sight of her putting the phone back into her pocket. He separated himself from the others,"Lennon!"

"Luke!"

"Uh- Julie's inside."

"I figured." She smiled.

Luke sent her a smile back before looking back up at Alex and Reggie. The two of them not in any shock, as for one, they had all "met" last night, and two, as soon as Luke arrived back home, that's all he could talk about. How he met the girl in his head.

"This is Alex and Reggie."

Lennon turned around and waved at the two boys.

"So, you're the one singing in his head all the time?" Alex said.

"Uh, yeah. The same goes for him singing in my head." She answered, "Do you ever hear anyone singing to you?"

"No, but you know how cool that is!" Reggie said, "Having a singing partner with you all the time."

Or having a soulmate, but however you looked at it, Reggie was right. A singing partner for life.

Lennon nodded, "Yeah, pretty cool. I should probably go see Julie. Nice meeting you guys... officially."

The two of them nodded as she headed inside with Julie. She saw the girl sitting at the piano. Julie looked up at her and smiled.

"Hey." Lennon smiled.

The two of them hadn't talked in so long. It wasn't awkward. Just different.

"Hey," Julie said, "so... I don't really know how to explain this, but know you can see them and I can see them."

Lennon nodded, "I don't know why I can see them, but I think you know why you can see Luke." Julie said, "The singing? You asked me about the singing even though I couldn't hear it."

"Uh, yeah. Luke. I can hear Luke and I guess he can hear me."

Julie tilted her head, "You guess or you know?"

"Do you know how crazy you sound when you can hear something and no else can? Do you know how worried I was for my own sanity? I genuinely thought I was going crazy."

Julie sighed. Lennon had been hearing Luke for months and for him, possible years. Julie couldn't put herself in Lennon's shoes as she couldn't see what was happening to Lennon happen to anyone. This wasn't something Julie had ever heard of. This was something, as much as she hated to say it, Julie thought Lennon was making up.

"So, yeah. I can hear him. All the time. Only when he's singing though." Lennon answered.

That didn't explain why Julie could see them and it didn't explain why Lennon could see all three of them. If anything, Lennon's situation would make more sense if she could only see Luke.

"Can you touch him?" Julie asked, "Luke?"

"No." She answered, "Can you?"

Julie shook her head, "I just don't understand how you can hear him. Like, from all the way in the nineties, and we can see them."

Lennon shrugged her shoulders. Obviously, Julie could do what Lennon did and search why Lennon was able to hear Luke, but it wouldn't help her case because Julie was the one to bring them back.

Lennon fumbled with her thumbs. She didn't really speak to Julie unless the two of them were in chemistry or talking to Flynn and then again, Lennon really didn't engage in conversations with them.

"Yeah, it's weird." Lennon muttered, "But, maybe that's something that we'll figure out down the line."

Julie nodded in agreement. The double doors of the studio opened and Flynn walked inside.

"I'll see you later, Julie."

Lennon waved Flynn a quick goodbye and left the studio. Flynn had looked pretty upset when walking inside, so it was probably best to leave the two best friends alone.

She shut the double doors behind her and trudged herself towards the gate.

"What did she say?"

Lennon turned around and faced the three ghosts, two of them looking inside at the conversation with Julie and Flynn, the other trying his best to get answers to the singing in his head.

"Well, we don't have any answers, if that's what you want to hear." Lennon answered, "Julie doesn't hear any singing. Not from you, not from Alex and Reggie, not from anyone. So, I've come to the conclusion that we can only hear each singing. No else."

"Well, that's not too bad." Luke replied, "You could be tone-deaf."

"Anyway... it doesn't explain why I can see Alex and Reggie and it doesn't help Julie at all on why she can see all of you."

"There's gotta be a reason you're singing to me."

There was. They were soulmates. Easy enough for her to say. Hard for her to actually commit to.

"There's a reason for everything isn't there?" Lennon questioned, "As you said, it's not too bad. You could be tone-deaf." She smiled.

Luke returned the smile and looked back at the two others, still peaking through at Julie and Flynn.

"Look, while I'm at school I'll try and figure out why we can hear each other."

"What if it's a bad thing?" He asked.

"Bad as in?"

Luke sighed, "I don't know. Can't be worse than dying."

"See, look at you." She said. She went in to hit his shoulder completely forgetting it would just go through. She quickly pulled her fist back, "You're looking at the positives."

Luke smiled once again. He hadn't spoken to a girl ( other than Julie ) in twenty-five years. A guy could lose his magical touch in twenty-five years, you know. He wasn't a ladies-man like Reggie ( no matter how he swung ) but Luke knew he was good looking and everyone around him knew. Luke Patterson was a good looking fellow. He attracted anyone, it was easy for him to get with anyone. One small smile could have anyone melting to the floor.

But that was twenty-five years ago and Lennon wasn't a girl from his decade. Things change. Who knew what Lennon even looked for in a guy. She didn't have many options in looking as her apparent soulmate stood in front of her.

"I should get going." Lennon said, "Can't be late."

"You're not going to wait for Julie and your other friend?" Luke asked.

"Uh, Julie and I aren't that close. She's closer to Flynn, the girl with her. Julie and I are really just chemistry partners, who can now see ghosts." Lennon answered.

So, Julie and Lennon weren't friends like Julie said they were. But, hey, they could see three ghosts. They are bound to be friends. Especially if they wanted to figure out what the hell was going on.
