Batman and Robin rode the Batcycle back to Wayne Manor. Robin folded his arms in defiance, and had refused to wear a helmet in an act of rebellion.
"Why can't I have a bike?" Robin whined. They pulled up into the Batcave. "Damian, you are ten years old and not even five feet tall. I would hardly be a responsible parent if I let you ride a motorcycle in addition to getting into fights with people quadruple your age and size."
"Like you care." Damian muttered as he stepped out of the sidecar. "You gave Dick and Tim everything they wanted as soon as they asked for it. They're grown men, yet Alfred repairs their suits and they still live here intermittently."
"Ibn al Xu'ffasch," *Son of the Bat "Speak of your brothers in that way again and you will be stripped of your title as Robin. First you must learn humility and self-control."
"Do not call me that!" Damian's yell echoed throughout the cave. "I was born in a laboratory. I have no father. I'm not one of these amateur vigilantes you nurture; I have been raised as an assassin. I have no empathy. I have no patience. I am a warrior of the League of Shadows. Nothing stays in my way. My sharmota of a mother left me with you, and I have remained here as to spite my grandfather. If I so desired, I could kill you now." He stood smugly with his arms folded. Batman stood with his right arm outstretched, and beckoned Robin towards him with his palm. Robin's right arm reached behind his back and pulled out his katana from its scabbard. He held it with both of his hands, raised it above his head, and milliseconds later he brought the blade down upon Batman with all his might. Batman raised his left forearm and deflected the blow with relative ease. Robin sliced again, but Batman swiftly moved to the side. He rummaged underneath the Batmobile and pulled out one short, steel sai. He took hold of it in his right hand and sidestepped back towards Robin. Robin lashed out with the sword a third time, only for the attack to be caught and overthrown by his mentor. Batman advanced. He quickly sliced at Robin, knocking the katana out of his grip. Robin's face grew more infuriated. He went to punch Batman, but the move was already anticipated before it had been made and Batman easily caught Robin's hand in his own. Batman took hold of Robin's fist with both hands before turning on his heel. He threw the boy across the cave with ease. Robin came crashing down onto the bonnet of the Batmobile. Batman strode towards him, sai in hand. He brought the blade up above his own head, and it swiftly came crashing down.

Damian opened his eyes to see the blade centimetres from his face; his hair was nailed to the car. Bruce removed his cowl and pulled up the sai, freeing his son. Damian stood up and immediately winced, expecting to be hit. Memories of his grandfather beating him came flooding back.
"Don't worry, son." Bruce spoke in a softer, gentler voice now. "I'm not going to hurt you. Just remember, not only am I your guardian and parent, I am your partner and sensei. Nobody here is better than another. There are simply different levels of experience. Now, are you going to disrespect your brothers again?"
"No, father." The boy replied.
"Less of the formalities Damian, I'm not Ra's. Are you ready to have dinner with your family?"
"Yes, Dad."
