My name is Anise Cadireed, and this is my story. I grew up in a normal household in the Seam in District 12. I had a mother and a father and I was an only child. I was happy, but still had to work for what I wanted. Both of my parents were coal miners and I had no friends. I was different and strange compared to everyone else and I never understood why. Then, everything changed.

My parents died in an accident. But I made two friends. I had to learn how to fend for myself even more than I already did. I was all alone in the world and no one was there to make me feel better, to take care of me, to wipe away my tears. Then the reapings happened. I knew about the reapings of course, but I never thought I would be in one.

Sometimes I wished I never volunteered. Sometimes I wished I could have just died and to take back what I said. All it took was two words and it changed my life forever. I saved two lives but in the process lost my own. Those two words was all it took.
