Times Have Changed.. But Have We....?!! - PART THREE
Okay... I just couldn't wait to update this part... I know I'm restless!!!! And had said that the next part comes tomorrow morning but I can't contain my excitement any longer... So here it goes..
The next morning, which was a Monday, Priti woke up early and got ready quickly. Her mother went for work and so did her stepfather.. She then contacted Sidharth and they decided to meet in a park as the weather was windy and pleasant. Priti found it really strange that she was too eager to talk to Sidharth.. Talking to him was like a stress buster for her.
Priti, on reaching the park, saw that Sidharth was already waiting for her at the entrance.
They went in and Priti had hardly sat down when Sidharth asked..
"So you were finally comfortable in the hostel.. What happened after that..?!!"
Priti, who was amazed to see Sidharth's eagerness, continued from where she had left...
"A classmate of mine, Rahul, was very helpful and became my companion, both during and after classes. By the time I had finished my second year in college, Rahul and I came extremely close to each other. I had developed a liking towards him and always enjoyed his company. I trusted him blindly, shared everything with him and had started to believe that God had sent his blessings to me in the form of Rahul... He was the one who helped me get over the irreparable loss of my father.. In the third year itself, we got into a relationship.. And I had began to move ahead in life, with him. My life was like a fairytale.. Everything seemed so magical and enchanting... Life was just perfect... But I guess those good times were a prelude to a surge of negativity and problems...",
Priti sighed.
Sidharth had guessed that it was finally time when all the secrets were to unfold... Priti would finally disclose her worries and problems. Sidharth came out of his thoughts as Priti continued..
"My fifth year, the final year had started.. And so did the problems. There was a new admission in the final year.."
Priti was interrupted by a surprised Sidharth..
"New admission..??!! That too in the final year...??? HOW??!!!!"
"He was a minister's son.. And so was a spoilt brat.. He was very badly behaved, annoying, and neither did he study himself nor did he let anyone else study!! He disturbed everybody so much that we (the students) went to the extent of filing a written complaint against him, to the Chancellor. But the chancellor not only rejected our complaint but also warned us to keep quiet and let go of the matter at once.. We were all very irritated. You know Sidharth, had all this been limited to just disturbance and annoyance on his part, it would still have been alright.. But personally, for me, matters were becoming intolerable.."
"Why..?!! What happened.. Did that rascal do something to you..?!!", Sidharth asked angrily..
"One day, Rahul and I were going to the library for some reference work because final exams were round the corner. On the way, Rahul realised that he had forgotten his book in his room, and so he told me to go ahead and that he would join me in the library in five minutes... So I went. A few minutes later, I felt someone that was following me.. And to my shock and despair, it was Armaan, the spoilt new admission. He had tried to talk to me many times, but I had always avoided him. Even that day, when he started asking me as to where I was going, why I was going and so on, I just ignored him, as if I was deaf to his words and blind to his presence.. Being a shameless person that he was, Armaan continued, to follow me and ask questions... Furious, I slapped him on his cheek and went away.. Everyone present in the corridor mocked at Armaan and made fun of him for having been slapped by a girl... This episode became my life's biggest worry. Armaan, now hated me and wanted to take revenge from me for the 'humiliation' that he had had to face because of me..
Armaan did not miss a single chance or opportunity to demean and degrade me in front of the entire college.. And the saddest part was that Rahul, who I thought would always stand by me, quietened me every single time. I used to be stalked by Armaan and his friends and was a victim of Eve teasing!
Nobody was there for me when I was in need of support desperately.
My mother refused to stand up for me, and said that this is what girls have to go through.. She preachingly said that this is the reason why girls are assumed to be stronger than men.. SO THAT WE CAN FACE AND TOLERATE ALL THIS! She told me that no matter what happens, it is always the girl who is blamed.. And even after all this, when I tried to persuade and explain my plight to her, she said that she FEARED THE REACTIONS OF THE SOCIETY. According to her, if all this came out in public, SHE would have a BAD NAME in the SOCIETY...
My boyfriend, who had given me innumerable promises of love, support and strength, withdrew himself completely from me regarding this topic.. According to him, it was MY FAULT and I SHOULD NOT HAVE SLAPPED ARMAAN FOR EVE TEASING ME.
Whatever I did, how much ever I tried, Rahul always blamed me and clearly stated THAT I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SITUATION I WAS IN, and that I SHOULD NOT EXPECT ANY SUPPORT FROM HIM in this matter..
I was completely lost Sidharth.. I was unable to concentrate and was going into depression..."
And tears rolled down Priti's eyes. Sidharth could not believe his ears.. His childhood friend had gone through so much and he was never there for her.. Even though Sidharth wasn't responsible for all that was happening in Priti's life, he felt guilty..
"But how could your own mother say something like this to you.. At least she should have supported you. And what about your boyfriend.. How can he be so oblivious to the fact that his girlfriend is in trouble.. All this is so unfortunate and sad that even in the twenty first century, the condition of women is so poor.. How I wish I had been there for you.. I would have supported you.. Stood by you and would have helped you get justice..", Sidharth said. His words were very comforting to Priti who thought that maybe Sidharth would have the correct solution to her problem..
She smiled at Sidharth and went on...
"We had our final examinations, and on the day of the last paper, all of us decided to have a batch party before placements etc. begin. So a club on the outskirts of the city was booked, all permissions were taken and all of us were ready to party hard.. Party was great fun, we were enjoying and dancing a lot when due to a family emergency, Rahul had to leave for his hometown immediately.. As soon as he left, I began to feel lonely and wanted to go back too.. Within ten minutes, a batch mate came and informed me that Rahul wanted to meet me alone, urgently, in the Conference Hall on another floor. I checked my phone because he generally called me up in case he wished to speak to me.. And realised that the Instagram selfies and snapchat videos had eaten up my phone's battery and my mobile was switched off. Without wasting any more time, I went to the hall... On entering, I first tried to find the switchboard because it was pitch dark.. I called out to Rahul but there was no reply.. Something seemed wrong.. Something seemed fishy.. I decided to go back to the pub where everyone else was.. But before I could even reach the door, I heard a 'click' sound. Someone had bolted the door...
Boooo!!!!!!
What's happening..?!! Who is it.. What is that person gonna do!!!! Questions Questions and more questions...
