Chapter 40

Chapter 40

"Nagisa!" That was the only thing Nagisa heard before literally all of his classmates ran him over. He yelped, slipping and completely missing Karma's chest to catch his fall, as he fell on his already sensitive ass as many classmates piled onto him. It almost reminded him of those soccer players or football players, or something, all piling on each other as a sign of affection and happiness.

But Nagisa wasn't feeling the happiness. His legs lost their feeling eventually, and the pricks like needles being stabbed forcefully in his legs were becoming more painful and weirder by the second. Some of his classmates were crying, some were smiling, and some were very confused. The ones that were confused were probably being pulled into this without consent. You know, like Itona.

Nagisa has never seen a more lost boy.

Karma smiled a bit, moving to his seat. Nagisa watched him retreat from the scene. He gawked at the taller boy, sending a look that said, how dare you not try to help me? I'm being assaulted, your boyfriend is literally being crushed under his classmates. Not only am I offended even more now, but I feel betrayal.

It took some wiggling, but he finally made it out of the messy pile of limbs and skin. He silently thanked his height.

Kayano was the second one to get out of the mob, patting down her hair. "I can't believe you came back! What happened? Where the hell were you?!" And soon, Nagisa's worst fear came true. His class untangled themselves from each other. Their heights intimidated the blunette, and he suddenly cursed his height. Everyone stared down, waiting for a legitimate story. Even Itona was a bit curious, even though he was roped in.

Nagisa opened his mouth, then closed it. He couldn't speak. It was happening too fast. He couldn't think.

"Guys, leave him alone. He really can't even breathe with you guys harassing him, and then asking questions like the police. Give him space." Karma's voice sliced through the thick air. And just like that, everyone backed up and walked away, muttering apologies and bowing their heads in shame. Nagisa waved them off nervously, laughing slightly at how everyone seemed more careful around him.

Leave it to Karma to intimidate the class more than they could.

Nagisa met eyes with his savior. The red head had on a goofy smile, his eyes answered Nagisa's, which said, I'd never leave you with these buffoons even on my worst day. The blunette nodded in thanks, taking his seat quickly.

With little chatter in the room, a yellow octopus arrived. He smiled at Nagisa, glad to see he was back. He wasn't too surprised, since Karma had called just the other day to inform him and Karasuma that Nagisa would be returning.

"Nagisa! Glad to see you joined class today." Not once did he seem to ask about his absence, which let Nagisa mentally relax. Koro-sensei was at least polite enough to not deserve answers as quickly as his class, although it was touching that they cared so much.

He nodded, giving a signature smile to his teacher. "It's good to be back."

Koro-sensei, satisfied with his answer, proceeded with his lesson like nothing was different.

With a small sigh, the small assassin glanced out the window. He'd stared at this window so much, but it had been a while. Weeks? Time sure flew.

Once upon a time, he would be bored. The view was always the same, always staring out of the clearing where they had PE with Karasuma, with the forest on the outskirts and on the opposite side, the entrance and exit to the mountain where the End Class trekked their way back to or from school.

It was nostalgic, and Nagisa found himself studying the environment, taking interest in every crevice. He never was this attracted to it.

It suddenly wasn't so boring.

Maybe it was the fact that the world was in danger, and he wanted to capture every last moment. Or maybe things had changed, and he wanted to find those changes. Whatever the case, Nagisa quirked his lips.

Lunch finally rolled around, and Nagisa was surrounding by his friends like any other day. They talked about random stuff, no one mentioning his absence. Nagisa was glad they were being respectful of his space and privacy, and he made another note to pay back Karma for his interference.

Speaking of the devil, Karma wasn't around. Nagisa would always invite him to sit with them, as Karma was their friend too. The red head always declined, saying he would do so next time.

Karma liked lunch because it was his own time to be free without the after thought of missing class. It was a time he could really go out and enjoy the environment, thinking of mindless things on the way around the forest. He was always the one to use the things around him to his advantage.

Nagisa really admired that about him, and one day, maybe he would join Karma, but he always felt guilty in the end for abandoning his friends, although he knew they didn't care.

He was listening mindlessly to Sugino, watching his arms emphasize whatever he was talking about, before he felt the urge to use the restroom. He excused himself, walking casually down the wooden building to the toilet. He crossed the staff room, but paused when he heard a heavy argument. He couldn't really make out the words, and shrugged as he made his way to the bathroom.

"We have a search warrant, and we have consent from the legal guardian." The police demanded to Karasuma. He shook his head tiredly. He was apart of the police force, but even he couldn't hold this off. Bitch-sensei watched carefully from her chair, examining these men who held out a certificate. A search warrant most likely.

"Why do you guys need him now? He's in school right now, not to mention the rumor of his rooming with a friend. If his mother truly wanted him back, why now?" The police couldn't give an answer.

"Agent Karasuma, we understand your stress, but we were ordered to do this, as the police." Again, Karasuma shook his head.

"I'm aware of that, gentlemen."

The police paused, giving him a sideways look. Finally the teacher gave in. "The classroom is down the hall, 3rd to last door."

The police nodded, dismissing themselves. Once the door was shut tightly, Irina turned her head to Karasuma. "What'll you do?" She asked through the silence. The man sighed, sitting back down and staring at his hands.

"I can't imagine. I get the part that Nagisa's mom wants him to come back, but if she did, why now and not when he first left? Wouldn't all mothers be going hectic when they figure out their child just isn't with them anymore?"

Irina paused, pondering the time when she met the mother. "She seemed stern when I met her. I mean, of course out of discipline for the child, but, I don't know. How do you explain the feeling of something else in her aura?" Karasuma listened closer.

"She seemed dark. Like she was hiding something. What, I'm not sure. But there was something just... off about her."

Karasuma leaned back in his chair. "Although she is his mother, judging by your information and the fact that she wants him now, I want to do a quick background check on her." Irina nodded, happy as she could help Karasuma out in any way.

Nagisa sighed happily as he dried his hands. He felt much more refreshed and relaxed. He checked his wrist, seeing they only had a few minutes of lunch left. It was routine to quickly find Karma and see if he would be skipping or not, and just to exchange a few words. While Nagisa never really skipped class, Karma would still try and rope the small boy in to skip with him. Usually it had a double meaning behind it too, which Nagisa would blush at and push Karma away.

He made his way outside, weaving through branches and bushes. Karma was always by the cliff, when he first came to their class. He said it calmed him, and it reminded him of when he first started to feel a bit comfortable around Nagisa and Koro-sensei. Nagisa knew the route like the back of his hand, and in no time he made it and saw Karma sitting carefully on the branch that over looked the cliff.

Nagisa approached him cautiously, knowing that Karma probably heard him stumbling in the forest. "You know, one day you're going to fall."

Karma smirked, turning around to see his blunette look at him curiously, hands on his hips. "Wouldn't that make it exciting?" Nagisa scoffed. "It would give me a heart attack."

Karma laughed lightly, slightly touched that Nagisa would probably mourn for him. It made him feel important. "It's almost time for class. Are you skipping?" Karma fell silent, considering his options. "I think we've both skipped enough class for the next week."

Nagisa nodded, a bit happy that Karma would be there. He felt more comfortable knowing the red head was there. Sure, he could take care of himself, but just knowing made it all the more better for him.

"Agreed. Let's go, Akabane." Karma got up as told, balancing his way back to land. He fell into stride with Nagisa, who was checking the time yet again. "If we leave here quickly, we can make it back with 7 minutes to spare."

Karma looked a bit disgusted. "Having to spend 7 extra minutes with those guys? Bor-ring." Nagisa was grabbed by his wrist. Before he could comprehend what was happening, he was being pinned to a tree, Karma towering over him with a seductive smirk.

His expression turned to one of annoyance, trying to desperately get out of the red heads grip. Why did Karma always have so much strength? "Karma, what are you doing?"

"C'mon Nagisa, 7 minutes to do whatever we want." Nagisa struggled to be free, turning his head when the devil himself leaned in a bit closer. Karma took this as submission, nosing his way through the blunette's neck. The small boy stiffened when he felt Karma exhale harshly on his exposed neck, squirming a bit.

"I did say the bedroom was getting a bit boring," Karma whispered in Nagisa's ear, earning him a push. He backed up a bit, surprised that Nagisa actually managed to get him off. Karma was delighted immediately when he saw the blunette's blush. It was darker than he expect, and he was lightly touching his neck to ease the tingles that spread.

The red head was glad he had that effect on him.

Nagisa glared at him, and continued on. Karma complied, still smiling smugly. The small boy angrily marched forward, wanting to desperately wipe that smile off of his face. He really wanted to-

Karma reached out again suddenly, all jokes gone as he wrapped an arm around the blunette's waist and a hand around his mouth. Nagisa began to protest, but Karma shushed him, pressing him to his chest as he protectively listened. While Nagisa was buzzing with revenge, he couldn't hear the sound of footsteps.

On any other day, he would suspect it was a student, or maybe a teacher, but these footsteps sounded much heavier. They sounded like Karasuma, but there were two sets. They both could deduce that it was two men that were retreating from their classroom. They both listened closely, using their training to help guide their view.

Soon, the footsteps were becoming softer and softer, until they just heard the sound of a bird tweeting. Karma let go of Nagisa slowly, making his way out of the forest with Nagisa in tow. They hesitated while emerging, making sure the footsteps really were gone.

"The hell was that?" Karma muttered to himself, sweeping his eyes around the clearing. Nagisa shook his head, giving off the same confused stare the taller boy was emitting.

"I don't know."
