Chapter 7
Thank you very much SecretIdentity16 for this amazing cover.
"How did you know what Miss Carter was telling us during the class?" Asher asked me as soon as we came out of the last class.
I just shrugged. "I got bored and went through the text book last night."
"You are smart." He smiled at me.
I just shrugged. The whole day Asher did not bring the topic. I wasn't sure if I should ask him.
What if he doesn't remember? What if he was just messing with me?
"Eli.." his voice brought me back from my thoughts.
I looked at him and around me. We were parked at my driveway.
When did we reach?
"You seen lost" he stated.
I nodded. "Is it about what is said this morning?" He asked hesitantly. "Look I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable. It's just that..." He stopped himself and looked around.
"Can we talk somewhere else?" I nodded.
"Why don't you come in?" I asked stepping out of the car.
"Sure."
"Uncle Jerry. I'm home. We have a guest." I shouted before Nico could call me by my real name.
"Oh! Who is it?" He asked before coming into the living room.
"This is Asher. Asher, my uncle Jeremy." I introduced them.
"Hello Asher. It's nice meeting you." Nico greeted with fake enthusiasm. "I'm so happy Eli is made friends" I rolled my eyes.
"It's nice meeting you too, Mr..." He trailed off.
"Oh! Call me Jeremy or Jerry. I hate all those formalities. It makes me sound old." Asher gave him a polite smile.
"Do you want something to drink?" I asked the dark haired boy, who was standing awkwardly in the living room.
"Sure." He replied.
"Eli, I'm going out on a small work. I probably won't be back till late. Order yourself some pizza. Take care. Love you" he kissed my cheek and walked out of the front door, ignoring my questioning look.
I sighed and turned towards Asher.
"You wanna stay for dinner?"
"My aunt's expecting me" he said with a apologetic smile.
"It's fine." I said handing him a Coke. I poured myself some juice.
"Thanks." He smiled.
An awkward silence settled between us. No one knew what to talk or what to do. We drank out drinks in silence.
"So.. you wanna go to the living room?" I asked him after finishing my drink. He shrugged and followed me.
"Um... Look I'm not judging you or anything... But.. but" he sighed. I waited for him to finish.
"But, it was you right?" He asked. "I meant, that night"
I did not know what to answer. I can't screw up now. I can't tell him either.
What if he wants me to stay away from him? What if he tells everyone? I can't risk it either.
"Eli.. I'm sorry. I shouldn't ha-"
"Yes." I cut him off. "Yes it was me."
I could see the wheels turning in his head. His eyes held only one emotion.
Fear.
"Were you going to kill me?" He asked after a while.
Before I could reply, my phone buzzed. It was a Text.
Olivia Siemens: Follow me.
It included a link that shows her location.
Is she in some kind of trouble?
Before I could decide what to do, my phone rang. It was her.
"Olivia?" I said as I picked up.
"And why do you think I'd come with you?" I heard Olivia's voice say. She definitely was not talking to me.
"Because we have your brother" another voice said.
"Richard?" Olivia's voice shook.
It was her first mistake. She shouldn't show any emotions. She should not let the opponent know it's affecting her.
"The one and only" the same voice replied. "If you don't want him dead, follow me" he said with a low and almost threatening voice.
"Are you okay?" Asher asked, probably guessing by the look on my face.
"We need to go"
"Go where?" He asked confused.
"Olivia needs me." I said picking up my bag and throwing out the binder, I've been carrying for school work, on the couch and rushing out.
I reached the garage and opened the door which was like a closet but held weapons. It's such a cliche place, I know.
"Whoa" Asher breathed out as he saw the guns.
"Do you know how to use a gun, Ash?" I asked him.
He looked at me for a minute and then shook his head.
"I'm not touching that." He told as he looked at me. I still saw fear in his beautiful eyes and I did not like it a bit.
"Asher..." I said taking a step towards him. Now there was just a few inches between us. I raised my hand to his cheek but he flinched a little as if he thought I was going to hurt him.
I frowned at him as I cupped his cheeks.
"Please" I whispered "trust me. I am not here to hurt you."
He nodded, the fear evident. I sighed and got into the black car that was inside the garage.
"Get in" I told him setting the GPS ready.
"Cool ride" he said as he sat down.
"Thanks. And look." I turned to him in all seriousness. "Whatever happens here, stays between us. Not even your aunt knows. Okay?" I asked.
"Okay"
I smiled at him before I started the car.
I have some killing to do.
~*~
Now before you think that Asher is too weak to face a girl or too much of a wimp or whatever, let me explain.
Who isn't scared of guns? Who isn't scared of death?
