A man lived alone, not counting his dog. He had a niece who came over one day. When they were eating breakfast, she thought the plate looked dirty.

"Uncle, I think this plate is dirty," she said.

"It's as clean as cold water'll get it," he replied.

So they kept eating.

At lunch, she thought the plate was dirty again.

"Uncle, I think the plate's dirty," she said again.

"It's as clean as cold water'll get it," he replied.

So they ate.

At dinner, she still thought it was dirty.

"Uncle, the plate is still dirty," she said.

"It's as clean as cold water'll get it," he said. He had just finished his plate, so he put it on the floor, where the dog was, and said, "Clean it, Cold Water."
