Very Long Poem...

~My Birthday Surprise~

The guests are here,

So many cars I see,

And my friends all run,

Up to the house to see me!

The Mom's and Dad's all smile,

And go off to talk about Grown-up stuff.

So us kids pretend to be agents with a high-profile.

We are very sophisticated.

Then my big brother,

Walks over to tell us,

That it's time for another,

Friendly game.

Still in the mood of games,

We grab his arms and pounce,

And he falls to the ground,

With only a tiny "Ouch".

He happily joins in,

Then sits in the chair,

Then as we prod and poke him,

He finally tells us a story that is very fair.

We listen closely,

As he gives up his story in surrender,

And tells us of candies and treats,

And paper-mache that hangs in the air.

You hit it with a stick,

And soon it opens up,

To reveal delicious things,

That you can never give to a pup.

Like chocoalate and succers,

Taffy and more.

There is so much candy,

It is a game all the kids adore. We are so excited,

We ask where to find this paper,

That hangs on a rope in the air.

And is high above our hair.

With a smile, he tells us

"You have to let me go."

And though we should have been good spies,

We couldn't say no.

So we untied the jumping-rope,

And he took off into the house.

We had been duped,

And we felt like we were dumber than a mouse.

But much to our surprise,

With every single guest,

Out came my brother,

With his hands behind his back holding something we couldn't guess.

He walked up to me

and handed me that gift.

And what do you know,

He handed me a shape that was make-shift.

He had made it himself,

And wanted me and my friends to hang it,

On the tree with our jump rope,

And swing and hit at it.

I looked at the big ball of paper-mache,

And found a hole just big enough to pull,

Our rope through and,

I ran to grab a stool.

We tied it and grabbed,

The biggest stick we could find.

Then my brother covered my eyes with a scarf,

And I thought I was blind.

I swung, and swung,

And after a few tries,

I let someone else take turn,Because I had to rub my eyes.

When all my friends had a turn,

And I got to go again,

I did my best and finally,

I heard something fall to the ground with a thud.

And I pulled back the scarf,

As all the kids cheered,

And we rushed to grab some candy,

As we grinned from ear to ear.

I laughed and popped,

a chocolate in my mouth,

Then ran to my brother,

And stuck another in his mouth.

I said "Thank you so much!

I had a blast!

Now won't you have some candy,

Now that the hitting is past?"

He said, he would love too,

And we filled our pockets with sweets,

And laughed as chocolate dribbled down our chins.

They were all yummy treats.

There were succers and chocolates,

Taffy and more,

And the gifts and cake were fun,

And new games and toys galore.

But though I got new cars,

New toys,

And a new bear,

(Gifts perfect for boys),

The best gift of all

Was something I treasure deeply,

It was the paper ball,

That my brother gave to me.

And even though I am older,And know that I am too old for toys,

I still keep that half-ball-of-paper,

Hanging on my wall.

My brother and I live different lives,

But though most memories are forgotten,

I will never forget that birthday party,

When my heart was forever brightened.
