I can almost smell the angst
I'm so bored urghhhhhhhh
After the fight they had in the Titans Tower, Batman suggested that Robin should at least attempt to patch things up with him. Robin was stubborn and didn't want to be anywhere near the man for any reason but a certain speedster guilt tripped him into going outside of town and talking it out. With great reluctance, Robin met up at the spot and waited for Batman. He felt a mix of emotions, some good most bad. He was angry at him yet felt a small amount of sympathy for him. Batman had raised him for a great deal of his life and it must've been heartbreaking for him to just run off. 'He forced me to run away,' he reminded himself. He looked up to the sunset and smiled to himself. As a child, Robin would be so excited when the sun went down because he knew he could go out and do good. He still felt that joy but instead he felt it when he woke up. Robin wondered why he hadn't tried to make being a hero a full time job before.
"Thank you for coming Robin," Batman announced, appearing beside his former partner.
"I'm only here because Wally wants us to make up." he replied. He stood up and stared at him with a stone cold expression. "So how's your team?" Batman asked slightly awkwardly.
"Fine. How's the League?" Robin asked.
"They haven't been the same since you left. They're a lot less... enthusiastic." There was a small sigh from Robin as he only just remembered how he not only left Batman and his boyfriend but his whole family. He gave up on everyone and everything he previously held so dear. "Do they know where I am?" Robin asked.
"Do you want them to?"
"It could come in handy one day but that's not what we came here to talk about is it?" Robin responded. They sat down together and stared at the fireball in front of them. "Why did you have to leave? You could've told me how you felt," Batman stated.
"I had to leave because you didn't appreciate me. You didn't care about me once I was old enough to question you. I saw my chance and I took it," Robin explained. "Why was I just a sidekick to you?"
"You weren't."
"Bullshit! If I wasn't just a sidekick then why did you never let me take credit for my work! People congratulated you and just gave me a pat on the head! You wouldn't know how that feels because you were applauded just for showing up!" Robin ranted. His feelings were somewhat pent up about what happened. "Robin you were not a sidekick, you were my partner. The public sees what they want to see. I'm sorry I couldn't get them to see how good you really were." Robin got up and walked a few steps to calm himself down. "You threatened to take Robin from me when you knew it meant the world to me," Robin stated. Batman sighed and remembered when he made the threat. "When I made that threat you had nearly died and I can only take so much Richard you know that."
Robin flinched at his name. It had been a while since he'd heard his full name and it didn't feel right. Not when Batman said it. "You didn't appreciate me, Bruce. You never did. Admit it, you saw me as Robin and threw away what I wanted to make me your back up in case you disappeared," he told him. "And at a time, I let you make me think being Batman was what I wanted in life."
"You weren't just a replacement to me! You were my partner and I'm sorry if I made mistakes but I'm human too!" Batman snapped, standing up angrily.
"Oh poor you! Poor Batman who has to deal with the kid he adopted and can't handle! Well, guess what? The child you adopted died in Gotham when you tried to take his life away from him!"
"That's enough! You can make me feel bad for trying to take Robin away but you cannot make me feel bad for the decision you made to abandon yourself!" Batman shouted Robin took a step back, surprised by the rise he got out of him. He had small tears in his eyes and they threatened to fall. Seeing this, Batman put out a hand but then thought better of it.
They stood in silence, their eyes returning to the sunset. "I just want my Dad back. You don't know how many times I've wished you were there to help me, there to save me." Batman's eyes darted back to Robin who was wiping the escaping tears away with the back of his hand. "I just want my son back. I've missed your laughter around the manor, your stupid puns, your disgracing of the English language and overall your ability to cheer me up by just smiling." Batman admitted. Robin looked up at Batman. "I don't want to be a Robin without a Batman but I had to find out my life on my own. The Titans helped. Leading them taught me how to make hard decisions on the spot."
"And I've never been so proud of you." Robin turned to his father and hugged him tightly. The hug was almost instantly returned. "I'm sorry I ran off and didn't let you know I was safe," Robin apologized. "I'm sorry I made you run off in the first place. Perhaps being a Dad is harder than it seems," Batman returned. Robin laughed a little.
"Maybe you can try again someday. The first child is always the tester," he joked, getting a laugh out of Batman. "Can you promise me something?"
"Anything Robin."
"Promise me we won't do something like this again, one of us mess up and not talk to one another for nearly a year." Batman smiled and nodded.
"I promise." Robin grinned at him and held out a pinky,
"You know it's not a real promise unless you pinky swear."
"Really?" Batman replied.
"And I'm eight at heart now pinky promise dumb dumb." With an eye roll, Batman gave in and wrapped his pinky around Robin's. Robin laughed and looked to the sky. "I should get back to the Tower, last time I was gone this long Starfire set the kitchen on fire." Batman chuckled to himself. "I better set off myself. Criminals are starting earlier and earlier by the day." They laughed together then came to a comfortable silence. "Am I forgiven?" Batman asked.
"That depends on whether I am."
"You are."
"Then yes."
How did I get over one thousand words? I didn't even plan this like wtf
