Avengers? Never heard of her

Jenny_Good_Witch requested this story, bless their soul. They've done a sad Robin oneshot book so check the peach out!

Side note, I'm using Stark Tower as where they all stay for the simplicity of it and they're all friends now TELL MY ACHEING HEART OTHERWISE I DARE YOU

Most missions didn't turn out too well for the team. A rare few went as smoothly as planned. This wasn't one of the few rare times Robin concluded when he found himself wandering the busy streets of some unknown city with no hope of getting home. He thought back to what got him here, what made it all go wrong.

The mission started out normally, the team being in fairly high spirits. Batman didn't give any passive aggressive remarks to them during their briefing. Robin had been in a particularly good mood that day since Batman had allowed him to have exactly two hours of patrol in Kid Flash's home turf of Central City. The quarrelling pair of Artemis and Kid Flash was mostly subdued thanks to Robin distracting the speedster with ideas on how to spend their two hours effectively. Of course there were still some spats but not half as bad as they normally were when left to their own devices. At the time, Robin felt like this would be a rare good mission. Even Superboy seemed especially willing to listen to instructions to be stealthy although it seemed to be against his moral code. These seemed to be the makings of their most perfect mission to date yet it wasn't; far from it actually.

Things went downhill, fast. Faster than any of them could see in time to prevent.

Aqualad decided that they stick together since they didn't know where the super weapon they needed to find was. He supposed that if they were all together it would be much easier to complete the mission than being apart. Robin had tried to dispute the plan, suggesting splitting into groups of two instead, but was told to trust in their leader by Miss Martian. He shrugged it off and kept his wits about him, ready for the moment he could say I told you so and laugh about how he was right later. They had made it twenty minutes into the mission before the small truce that had gone on between Kid Flash and Artemis ended in a ball of fire. It then became Miss Martian and Aqualad's sub mission to calm the pair down before they got found out. Spoiler alert! They got found out.

"I always have to be the bigger person, why can't he just back down for once?" Artemis complained when Miss Martian suggested backing down for the sake of not making things worse. They all knew the argument wasn't going anywhere but the pair continued. Superboy rolled his eyes, beginning to get antsy with the fighting. It was only a matter of time until he suggested going off on his own and Robin had to convince him to stay. He then started an argument about Robin being a hypocrite which was countered with how Superboy needed to learn to follow orders. "Will all of you be quiet? How many times must I tell you all that we have to work together and keep all personal matters for the Mountain?" Aqualad finally snapped. They went through the same problem over and over yet not much changed. "It isn't our fault that you can't keep a grip on your team for more than five minutes," Kid Flash muttered under his breath. "How about you stop acting like a toddler and starting dumb fights over nothing?" Artemis suggested. She had her arms crossed and glared at him angrily. "This isn't de-escalating the situation," Miss Martian spoke up, pushing the pair apart before they decided to fight one another. Robin rolled his eyes, coincidentally noticing a glint of a gun barrel shining in a stray light from the moon as he did so. He squinted up at the spot and trained his eyes on the spot. Perhaps it was just metal in an awkward place but he didn't believe the lie he told himself. "Can we put a pin in this?" he asked Superboy in between his insults. His voice was rather quiet due to his intense concentration; it was a good thing Superboy had super hearing because over the fighting you barely hear his voice. "What do you see?" Superboy answered. Traces of agitation could be heard in his voice but he knew Robin. The only way he'd leave a fight like that was because something more interesting or dangerous had caught his ever wandering attention. "You see anything up there?" he questioned, pointing to the place where he saw the gleaming metal. Superboy looked and nodded, seeing a large gun that had been left unattended. "Aqualad, I think we have company," Robin proclaimed.

Sadly, his voice had been overpowered by the fighting ensuing between the teammates. Great, just fabulous really. He looked to Superboy to find at least a shred of empathy but found that he'd joined the fighting because he heard a bad word about his girlfriend. It was something Robin could understand but they couldn't afford this. "Guys, you really need to shut this down," Robin said, louder than before. Still, his team fought. Then he heard a whirring come from behind theme similar to an engine starting up. It appeared whoever had left the gun decided they wanted to use it. "Would you all shut the hell up? This is why the League thinks we're just a bunch of teenagers running around in designer costumes!" he yelled. However, it was just another addition to the yelling already filling the warehouse.

Everything happened so fast after that sound ripped through the group's fighting. If he was quite honest, Robin hadn't remembered much. Maybe it had been blocked out so his mind could deal with the aftermath or perhaps his brain hadn't been able to connect with his body at that moment. From what he did remember, he saw light head towards Artemis. He shouted for Kid Flash, maybe gesturing for him to push her out the way. Kid Flash stayed where he was, frozen in time. Robin ran forward. He pushed her out the way. Sharp pains pricked half his body. He remembered Kid Flash's face, how could he not? His emerald eyes shook in fear and small trickles of water dribbled down his freckled cheeks as he realised what standing by had done. "Robin!" they all screamed. Light surrounded Robin's vision and he couldn't see anything for a terrifying few seconds. Then Robin suddenly hit a concrete pavement. He groaned, glancing up only to see a portal with scared versions of his friends closing. Quickly, he scrambled to his feet to try and get to the rip in the world but it closed before he could even touch the outstretched hands of his desperate team. That's how he ended up here.

Hours Robin spent walking the unfamiliar streets, searching for any clues as to where Gotham was from here. He planned on getting a zetatube but there were none within a 100 mile radius which did nothing to ease his ever growing nerves. Shortly after coming to this revelation that there were, in fact, no zetatubes anywhere near him, the sunset and with it the warmth that Robin had enjoyed died. Cold winds picked up, making Robin on edge for what was to come. He barely managed to calm himself down before he got too bad but it was becoming increasingly difficult. Beside him was a newspaper store that had been left unattended. He picked one up, scanning through the articles for anything or anyone that could help him. Somehow he doubted that the new pizza place would offer any help. Then he saw an article on a guy named Spider-Man who had been seen on a mission with the Avengers. From what Robin could gather, they were sort of like this world's Justice League only much smaller. Apparently, Iron Man, aka Tony Stark, was the tech genius behind the group and owned a large facility full of technology. Robin thought it was rather brave of the man to publicly announce his identity but the man did seem rather full of himself in the interview that followed.

After taking a picture of the building in the newspaper and putting it into his mini computer, Robin found that it was an hour's trek away from where he was now. Robin now had a clear mission. Get to Stark Tower, hack into its mainframe, find home and get back as quickly as possible. Simple really and without the team squabbling, he could do it much quicker. He decided to keep interaction with these Avengers at a minimal, not actively seeking anything from them. Just because they were heroes didn't mean they weren't threats. With that in mind, he set about travelling to the facility. He swung between buildings and flipped over the gaps between the apartment blocks. This place looked like a cleaner version of Gotham. He embraced the loud traffic buzzing around him as a way of keeping his mind off the friends that had no idea where he was and the mentor that was worrying over their lost son.

When he finally got to the Tower, he breathed a sigh of frustration as he saw the only covert way in was about 50 feet off the ground. Desperate to get information, he shot his grappling hook up to the small ventilation shaft and heaved himself up into it. Once inside, he pulled up the building's blueprints with ease. He followed them to a small room that was directly connected to the mainframe. It was off to the side of a lab that he just had to check out if he got the chance. Jumping down from the vents and avoiding the many laser grids that had been set up to keep would be hackers out, Robin plugged his glove into the circuit board. He tried to prevent his mind thinking back on the scene that seemed to be on replay behind his eyes. What were they doing now? Maybe they were calling the League in a desperate panic? God Wally was probably a mess and M'gann wouldn't be any better off. The thought made him feel sick and made him stop hacking for a minute. Unbeknownst to Robin, his breathing had been picking up whilst thinking and made him severely lightheaded. He knew not to dwell on the hypotheticals of life but this time Robin couldn't help it.

Just as his breath began to even out, he heard the sound of the door opening. Perfect, just what you want when you're five minutes away from a panic attack. Robin jumped up and removed the wire that was collecting the information he needed. In the doorway stood a teen, a little older than Robin but not older than Wally, wearing a red and blue suit with a spider emblem on his chest. "You're Spider-Man huh? I was expecting someone a little taller," Robin quipped, getting ready to make a quick escape into the vents. "Hey! What did I do to you?" he replied, shooting a web like liquid at the younger. Luckily, Robin jumped up into the vents before the web hit him. "Come back here! I won't hurt you!" Robin scoffed, not believing that lie in a thousand years. He knew that he couldn't go out the way he came due to it being a death drop. Perhaps if he got to the roof he could grapple his way into another building to escape Spider-Man who, undoubtedly, was on his way to let the other Avengers know there was a kid in a costume climbing in their vents. Once he got to the roof, he found that he had a reception waiting for him. A man dressed in a blue suit with what looked like the American flag inspired shield in his hand was stood beside Spider-Man. On Spider-Man's right was a red haired woman dressed in all black. These must be part of the Avengers. "This is the inter-dimensional being that was stealing data?" the red head asked. Spider-Man nodded his head vigorously. Robin raised an eyebrow at her title for him. Was he really in another dimension? This day just got better and better. "I wouldn't say stealing, I'd call it borrowing without asking," Robin corrected. She shot him a glare.

"He looks twelve."

"I'm thirteen and a half actually and by the sound of things you didn't paint me too well Spider-Boy," he retorted, eyeing the side of the building smirking.

One good jump and he would be out of this place. "It's Spider-Man! Look we don't want to hurt you and you don't want to hurt us so how about we just have a calm discussion inside?" Spider-Man suggested. Robin almost wanted to tell him what was going on. Almost. Unfortunately, he wasn't in the mood to try and make them believe he didn't have evil plans for then so he chose his original plan. "I would love to, really, but I gotta get going." He leapt over the heads to the edge of the buildings, his feet just centimetres away from the edge. "I'll see you around," Robin said with a grin. "You have no escape route, how are you going to run from us?" the American styled man questioned. Robin just smiled and leaned back, making himself freefall off the building. He heard a scream but didn't take much notice of it. Swiftly, he got his grappling hook out and attached it to a nearby building. He used it to help him swing up off the ground and managed to throw in a backflip whilst landing in the neighbouring apartment block. The gravel gritted against his boots, the sound familiar to Robin's ears. On a whim, he looked back to the building he just jumped off. Spider-Man was about to jump after him whilst his teammates had run off somewhere. "Great, I've got myself a groupie," he muttered. Robin took off in the opposite direction and avoided the website that had been aimed at his feet by his new "fan."

He was doing very well avoiding his attacker but then he heard a scream in the alleyway below him. As much as he wanted to ignore his hero urges, Robin found himself climbing down the fire escape and jumping between the would be attacker and the woman. "I'm guessing that purse isn't yours? I only say that because hot pink really isn't your colour," Robin quipped, kicking the assailant's hand and knocking the purse to the floor. The robber winced, his hand retreating to his chest. Robin picked up the bag and handed it to the woman with a smile. "You might want to head off now Miss and maybe avoid back streets at night," he suggested. He made sure his voice was kind as he always made it when he spoke to shook up civilians. "I will, thank you erm," she hesitated. "Robin," he filled in.

"Thank you, Robin." Then she ran off and left him with the robber. He turned around to find that Spider-Man had jumped down and webbed him to the wall. "You owe me one crook," Robin whined, frowning a little. He had a lot of frustration built up that a criminal's face would just be perfect for. "Oh really?" Spider-Man responded. With his mask on, Robin had no idea where he was looking so he just stared at him in confusion when he got a thumbs up from the arachnid themed hero. "You are one weird cookie, you know that?"

Suddenly, strong arms were wrapped around Robin and picked him up off the ground. "Good work kid. Stopping a mugging and the being is great multitasking," a man congratulated as Robin kicked his legs violently. "Actually he stopped the mugging," Spider-Man admitted. The man looked at the boy in his arms with confusion. "Just because I hacked you guys doesn't mean I can run right past a mugging. Now, will you let me go? You're going to break my ribs!" To Robin's surprise, his demands were met and the man let go of him, even if it was only so the red head could put handcuffs on him. "What's your name?"

"Robin, what's yours? Captain break-a-kid's-bones?" Robin snapped, his torso aching.

"Captain America actually. This is Black Widow and you already know Spider-Man," Captain America answered. "You're in a lot of trouble young man," he added. Robin scoffed.

"Oh you have no idea," he muttered cryptically.

Before Robin knew it, he was forced back into the Tower and into an interrogation room. The handcuffs around his wrists were connected to the desk and he was given a semi comfortable chair to sit on. The heroes that had caught him were joined by a man dressed in an expensive suit. "Mr Stark I assume?" Robin asked, getting a nod from him. "That's nice, can I go now?" He could already feel a stress induced headache coming on and didn't fancy getting kept here any longer than he had to be. "You need to be questioned before you go anywhere," Captain America told him. Groaning, Robin put his head against the table and lightly banged it against the metal in frustration. For some reason questioning didn't sound like the greatest thing ever; who would've thought? "What do you want from me?" he inquired, barely lifting his head off the desk to glare at them. "What do you want with the data you stole?" Black Widow asked sternly.

"Borrowed, not stolen. If you must know, I'm using it to get back home before everyone thinks I'm dead," Robin answered. "But thanks to you, it's taking a lot longer than it needs to be," he complained. The Captain chuckled lightly at his remark. "He's a little spitfire, isn't he?"

"Wouldn't you be? Look at it this way. I appear wherever the hell this is and try to get information so I can go home. I don't mean any harm and I get hunted down by you then muscles over here practically snaps me in half after I stop a mugging." They shared glances with one another but Robin couldn't tell if they were in his favour or not. He was too tired and his body ached too much to go through this. "If you aren't going to let me go then help me. I need to go home before they start to grieve their youngest member," he said gravely. "Do you know what it's like to grieve someone? I do and it is far from asterous. There is no way I'm letting then go through that because a bunch of pricks in suits decided I was a threat," he snapped, shooting them all daggers.

Tony was the first to speak up. He rubbed the bridge of his nose in thought of what to do then moved his hand over his mouth. "We'll figure out what to do with you with Banner. Kid, you stay here with him in case we take a while to come to a conclusion," he ordered. Spider-Man saluted and the pair of heroes filtered out the room. When it was just them in the interrogation room, Spider-Man took a seat opposite Robin. His eyes kept shifting between the teen's face and the cuffs fitted tightly around his wrists. "Are you alright?" he asked quietly, making Robin stare at him. "I know they can be intense and it's not the best thing when you're worried but we're here to help you," he continued. Robin managed a small smile for him.

"Better be, you guys are all the help I have right now," Robin responded, laying his head on his arms. "You know when you jumped? That was pretty cool," Spider-Man said.

"Jumping off buildings is my speciality," Robin joked tiredly. He heard a sigh then tapping off fingers against the desk. "Is Robin your real name or your made up one?"

"Made up one."

"Why Robin of all things? Do you have the powers of a bird or something?" That got a soft laugh out of the young teen as he shook his head. "Nope, I'm just you're average thirteen-year-old running around in tights. Robin was the nickname my mum gave me when I was younger." He didn't fancy going too far into his backstory right now. "If you tell me your real name I'll tell you mine," Spider-Man tempted.

"Nice try but we're not there yet."

He closed his eyes, finding the lights suddenly too bright for him. The quiet that settled in didn't give him peace of mind. He found himself imagining what they were doing now. Wally crying on Barry's shoulder, M'gann worry-baking and burning everything as she jumped from one recipe to another. Connor would be secretly upset he supposed, Kaldur wouldn't be doing too well and Artemis? She'd probably be cleaning her arrows with that glazed over look she gets when she's upset over something. Batman would be darting around, looking for his tracking device and not giving up hope until he was on his deathbed. Robin hoped he'd make it back before that happened. Robin would hug them all so tightly when he got back in fear that if he let go he'd be brought back into this interrogation room. He frowned and snapped his eyes open in search of conversation to take his mind off things. "How'd you become Spider-Man?" he asked. He noticed that Spider-Man jumped a little at the sudden request for chatter but he eased into it easily. "I was bitten by a radioactive spider on a field trip and it gave me powers. They have their perks but they're annoying sometimes. Things tend to get too bright and I end up getting no sleep because I can hear the baby five streets away crying." he rambled. Robin just smiled and listened to him. He got Wally vibes from him, the way he rambled at a blinding speed. Though it made his heart ache when he thought about Wally. This would be a lot easier if he was here too, even if he'd be freaking out. Robin found reassurance in helping others calm down. It made him stay calm for both their benefits.

"Earth to Robin," Spider-Man said, waving his hand in front of his face. Robin blinked in quick succession, bringing himself back to the room. "You okay? You spaced out on me. I know I can bore people with my rambling."

"No I was just thinking of someone," Robin responded, smiling to himself solemnly.

"Special girl?" Spider-Man asked. From the sound of his voice, Robin could tell he was smirking underneath his mask. "Special boy," he corrected. "You remind me of him, talking a mile a minute. He's a super too." He got a gesture that told him to carry on. "He has super speed, making him a hyperactive ball of energy. He's great at science as well, even if he mostly used it to make up puns and pick up lines," he added. Then the smile faded.

"You miss him?" Robin silently nodded and rubbed his temples in an attempt to sooth his raging headache. "I can't afford to at this point though, I need to concentrate on the task at hand."

The door opened and a man wearing a purple shirt entered along with Tony. "This is Dr Bruce Banner, he's responsible for detecting you in the first place. He wants to run some tests on you to figure out the dimension you came from," Tony announced. Robin perked up,

"I'm all yours Bruce. What do you need?"

"Blood and skin sample so it's off with the gloves." Robin did so. Then Bruce pricked his finger to get the blood, catching it in a tube and putting it in the machine. After that, he took a small skin sample and added it to the plethora of machines. "It'll take a few hours for your blood and skin sample to come through. We should get a clear idea after that," Bruce explained.

"A few hours?" Robin repeated. He didn't have a few hours when the League was in panic mode right now. Did they want Batman to have a stress induced stroke? "I'm sorry but that's the quickest I can do it," he apologised. With a sigh, Robin nodded and calmed himself down. They'd gone longer thinking he'd passed on, a couple of hours wouldn't be too excruciating. "Will I have to wait in here for hours?" he asked.

"We can't exactly trust you to run around. You haven't given us any form of your real identity or proof you're on our side," Tony reasoned. Robin groaned loudly. He was doing that a lot today thanks to these damn heroes. If he was on his own then he would've already got home, eating the partially burnt cookies that M'gann hurriedly baked to ease her panic. "You either let me out of these cuffs or I do it myself and have a field day in the vent system just for kicks," Robin cautioned. "I'd like to see you try kid," Tony scoffed as he let Bruce walk past. "Come on Spidey, time to get out of that suit."

When the room became empty, Robin decided this was the perfect time to break out. "Challenge accepted Mr Stark." If they were going to keep him locked up in this building then the least they could let him do was waste some time. First on the list was getting out of this room. He had to give it to them; the handcuffs were well made as it was made of a strong metal that couldn't be vent as much as he tried. With breaking them out of the question, he flicked up the pick locking device in his glove and got to work. He was out within a minute and slipped out the cuffs, rubbing his aching wrists. They made them tight out of spite he assumed. Next on the agenda, he had to get out of the grey investigation room that now made his eyes want to bleed from being here so long. His eyes searched for an escape route, settling on the vents that ran out the room. He grinned to himself and used the chair as well as the table to crawl into it. He planned on finding the lab he'd noticed before and perhaps he could hack the computers that were in there. Robin scooted through the vents near to effortlessly if it wasn't for the almost constant stream of cobwebs. Did they even clean their systems? He took a mental note to tell Tony about how awful the conditions were.

Eventually, he came across a grid that went directly into the lab and watched silently. Spider-Man was sitting with his mask off and wore clothes that suited a civilian more than a hero. Robin didn't fail to notice the science pun printed onto the shirt's fabric, internally groaning at it. "He can't be kept in that room forever Mr Stark. I can look after him whilst he stays here," he insisted. Robin raised an eyebrow at the offer he was making. Tony made a face at the idea, clearly unhappy with it. "How can we trust him? This ten-year-old could just be a form he's taking. Did you have a special heart to heart with him whilst you were alone?" Tony asked sarcastically. Spider-Man pursed his lips in frustration and stood in front of his mentor with determination. He wasn't backing down on his opinion and Robin found himself rooting for the hero. "He could've run right past that woman but he didn't, that's got to mean something. He would've got away if he didn't stop," he reasoned. Tony sighed, finishing what he was working on so he could maintain eye contact on the younger. "You accept responsibility if he runs off and my information get leaked?" Tony questioned.

"I do," the younger stated in confidence.

It was a brave move, something Robin might not have done had the roles been reversed, mostly because it went against the vigorous training he'd been given over the years. "Then he's your problem until we get him home," Tony said, patting him on the shoulder. He smiled brightly at the new found responsibility. "Does that mean we can let him out the interrogation room?" His answer came in the form of a grate being popped open and Robin sticking his head out. "I've got that part covered," Robin proclaimed, jumping out.

"How did you?" Tony started, pointing to the vent and where the boy stood with a blank stare.

"I said I'd let myself out if you didn't. You should clean your vents though; it's an asthmatic's worst nightmare up here," Robin answered. He perched himself on a chair, folding his legs over one another to get more comfortable. "So is Spider-Boy going to be my babysitter?" he asked, a small smile spreading across his face. "I guess so. My first order as your babysitter is for you to get some rest. I have some spare clothes you can sleep in," Spider-Man answered, proud of his role. Robin made a face at that. He didn't feel like sleeping now or ever really. His mind was awake with imagined images dancing around his head. "Can I pass on the sleeping aspect of that?" he asked. From the look he got, Robin guessed that it was a no on foreboding sleep. "You've been crawling through vents, ran a good four miles to get away from us and you jumped off a freaking building. You're sleeping the rest of the night." Spider-Man insisted.

Robin shared a look with Tony, one that pleaded for him to stop his babysitter acting like an angry mother but it did nothing to poison the hero's pursuit. "I'm guessing you're going to glare at me until I got to bed," Robin huffed. He nodded, forcing Robin to get up with a grimace. "You can try Spider-Boy but you can't make me. I have my ways." Tony snuck him a smile, appreciating his mischievous tone. Maybe he'd teach the kid a thing or two about parenting someone who did the exact opposite of everything you said. He was then walked out by the older teen to a hallway of bedrooms not too dissimilar to the rooms in the Mountain. Coming out of one room was a tall blonde haired man that had something mystical about him. "Ah Man of Spiders, who is the youngling?" he asked with a grin. Robin quirked an eyebrow at the odd name he used. It reminded him of the way Bruce butchered euphuisms just to annoy the living hell out of him. "He's the different dimension guy Dr Banner told us about this morning. He's cool though," his babysitter explained. The mythical man bent down and took Robin's hand in a firm grip. "Hello young one, my name is Thor God of Thunder," he greeted. Diana would get on well with him, Robin thought to himself. "I'm Robin," he greeted. They shook hands then the God went on his merry way after scruffing up Robin's hair for "good luck" or something.

After that, Robin fixed his misplaced hair strands whilst Spider-Man giggled. "You deserve that after the trouble you've caused," he reasoned. Robin stuck his tongue out playfully and continued to follow the hero to a room furthest down the hall. Inside it looked barely touched, the bed perfectly made without a single crease in it. He wondered if this was just a spare room or the owner was no longer around one way or another. "My room is just next door if you need anything during the night. I'll bring you some clothes to wear but they might be a bit big," he rambled. "That's fine, it's not like I'm trying to dress to impress," Robin assured him. He sat on the bed, taking off his dirtied cape and messed with the material between his fingers. A frown was firmly placed upon his lips as he played with the black and yellow Kevlar. "We'll get you back where you belong soon," Spider-Man said suddenly after watching him in silence. "Think of this as a surprise vacation if that helps at all," he suggested. Robin nodded half heartedly and put on a smile.

Next part will be up in 1-2 hours. Hope you're enjoying it so far!
