Chapter 3
I sat up in the dark room, the only light from the slowly descending moon; shining through the clear curtains.
I kept having that dream... The third time I recognized and woke up. I wasn't able to get a peaceful sleep.
I rubbed my blurry eyes. Every time I had woken up, my vision had gotten more and more fuzzed; which lead me to believe that the black rimmed glasses on the bedside table were mine.
I looked up to the clock above the door, and was unable to make out the time. I sighed and took off my breathing mask; testing to see if Jasper was correct.
I'm not sure why I believe in the words of a total stranger; he could be the reason in even in the hospital for all I know! I just......trust him.
And let alone, there I was, breathing as I would with the mask on anyways. I looked down at my hands, to see a violet light shining from the bandages on my right hand.
I sighed and pushed a strand of my black hair from my eyes; this was...interesting...to say the least.
I began to fidget as my mind wandered to things about me. I know the essentials, my age: 18 my gender: female, but.... That's it.
I don't know if I had a name before Amethyst, and if I did, I'm not sure why I don't remember it. I don't even know if I had a last name....
I don't remember anything, and why hasn't any of the doctors told me anything?
My eyes were beginning to hurt, so I took a chance. If those glasses were mine, I could wear them right?
I moved my body to face the bedside table, and reached out my arm; Jasper was right, my body only feels slightly sore, and there's no pain.
I grabbed the glasses and sat straight once again.
I brought them to my face, and put them on. Surprisingly, they felt extremely comfortable, and fit well on my face, that I have yet to see.
I don't even have a mirror in the bathroom.
My vision was now clear as crystal, and I took this chance to take a look at the clock.
9:54; I'm guessing in the morning; since the moon was just beginning to set.
I couldn't get up and move without assistance, so I couldn't walk over to the window; with all the machines strapped to me, pumping different fluids in my body threw my arms.
I could only look at the window from afar, and watch as the light began to leak threw, more and more.
I pressed the button that rested on the side of my bed- which brought a nurse into the room- and waited for my assistance.
When she came and closed the door, she smiled at me.
"You seem to be feeling better! Now Ms, is there anything you need?"
I nodded my head, and smiled. "Yes, um- what hospital are we in? And what are visiting hours?"
I was shocked at my tone of voice. It was soft and soothing, yet surging with energy. The nurse walked up to my bed and sat down on the chair at the end of it; the same chair that Jasper sat in.
"We are currently in the SunnyBrook hospital, and visiting hours are eight am to ten pm."
I nodded. "Thank you." She smiled and stood up to walk towards the door.
Right before she left a questions pooped into my mind. "Wait!" She halted, and turned back towards me, closing the door once again.
"Yes Ms?" I took a breath.
"Who am I?" She shook her head.
"I'm afraid we don't know Ms, that boy who was with you yesterday, he brought you here. You were extremely injured, and he didn't even know who you were. He said that you were important to him."
I felt the heat rush my cheeks; but tried my best to ignore it. "I-I see..." I mentally slapped myself for stuttering, and cleared my throat.
"Is there anything else you know about me...? Anything that's certain?" She shrugged.
"When we cleaned your wounds you were estimated to be around 18 years old, and that you're a girl."
I sighed and combed a hand through my greasy hair. "Thank you...and that's all......" I took a glance at my hands.
"But..." She stood paused before me again, clearly getting annoyed.
I gave her a sheepish smile before continuing. "You......you can call me Amethyst...."
She smiled and made her way to the door. "Of course." She opened the door and walked out; but didn't get a chance to close it, before I heard something- or someone- crash in the hallway.
"Oh I'm so sorry!"
"My bad..." I heard a sheepish laugh. The conversation just outside my door was loud and clear.
I heard the clacking of the heels disappear from hearing, and someone stepped into the room.
The first thing I noticed was his blue eyes. "Hello Jasper." I smiled. I noticed he wore the same thing he did yesterday.
When he didn't reply, I gave him a strange look. "You okay?" I watched as he walked over to the end of my bed, and sat on the chair.
"Yah... You just look better with glasses," he laughed; causing me too blush. Damn these easily tempted female hormones... Oh well, it's not like a actually like him.
"Thanks. I think they're mine but.... I'm not sure...." I muttered the last part, just loud enough for him to hear it.
He smiled at my comment and looked at my hand; right hand. "How's your hand.....?" He asked, as if hinting for me to show him.
I unraveled the bandages and showed him my hand that held the stone. "It randomly glowed when I took the mask off....." His smile grew, and he took my hand in his.
"Then it's perfectly healthy, and doing its job in trying to keep you alive!" I raised a brow.
"Keep me alive?" I asked, worry beginning to fill me. He let go of my hand, and got into a comfortable position on the chair.
"We technically get a longer lifespan then most people, thanks to the stones that reside in us, but...if the stone is damaged and doesn't receive proper care almost immediately, you could live for only mere minutes," he paused for a minute, waiting for me to learn all of this knowledge.
"So.....this rock is technically our lives?" He nodded, and continued speaking.
"Your amethyst was scratched and glowing brightly, indicating that it was having an extremely hard time keeping you alive by the second. So I'm glad your hand is fine."
I nodded slowly, understanding. "But why?" He shook his head, indicating that he wasn't going to say anymore on the subject.
"Alright so....you said I was important to you?" He froze and looked me in the eye.
"You are. You're the only other person who has this stone, and you will be the only one. It's only us that has to take part in this. I wish I could've met you on different circumstances, but we haven't. I'd like to get to know you when your discharged tomorrow." He stated standing up.
"Where are you going now?" I laughed. He turned back around and pointed to the clock.
10:16. "So? It's only been an hour." He sighed and began to walk towards the door.
"It's ten-sixteen at night." I gasped.
"But you were only here a few minutes....." He shook his head and turned to face me.
"When our stones are together, our stones let us talk in a different....space... Than others, but only if one of us chooses it to. I chose it to.
Sadly that space is slower than this one. So while we talked for about, thirteen minutes in our space. Thirteen hours passed in theirs.
I have to go before we miss another hour and I get into trouble." He winked and then left.
I looked at my hand and sighed; grabbing the bandages that he didn't even bother to put back on.
Why does this have to be so complicated?
And what did he mean I was going to be discharged tomorrow? How does he even know?
I flipped back down on my bed. This was not getting me anywhere.... I closed my eyes and thought about the dream.
"I died....." I spoke, and turned on my side. "....so why am I so calm about it...?"
