Chapter One: "Ehhhh?!"
Word Count:
3rd Person's POV:
Sakura was having a good day. Her hair wasn't too messy when she woke up. She left the house early. Visited the Sakura trees on her way to school. She even stopped by a local bakery and bought a few treats for herself. But the closer she got to school. The more she felt like something bad was about to happen.
Her suspicions were proved correct in the middle of first period when she was pulled out of class by her counselor. Since her school was a private school of the higher class, this could mean three things. Her grades were falling behind, which definitely wasn't the case. She was having problems with another student, which wasn't going on either. Or a family matter regarding another student. As to say, she was to marry another student for the sake of her parent's company, either that or sign a contract.
The walk to the counselor's office had been excruciating for the pinkette. By the time they arrived her palms had begun to sweat. She wiped them nervously on her jeans as they entered the office. That's when she saw Konoha High's very own heart throb. Sasuke Uchiha sat in a waiting chair along the wall, looking around the office with a bored expression. When his eyes landed on her, his face scrunched up in disgust. Sakura couldn't help but let her own facial features mold into the same expression.
The counselor who had led Sakura there did the thing Sakura wanted her to do least, call out to the grouchy Uchiha.
"Mr. Uchiha, Ms. Haruno, please come with me." She gave them a polite smile before walking into her office. The two teens exchanged a look before Sakura tore her gaze away from his and followed her counselor. She took a seat across from her counselor while Sasuke took the one next to her. There was a couple seconds of silence while the counselor looked between them questionably.
"I'm Ms. Yamatamo, I apologize for pulling you out of your classes. I'm sure you're both wondering why you're here." She looked between them once more before glancing at her computer. "Well, I'm sure you have already figured it out. You two are to be married in two months on behalf of your parent's companies."
"Ehhhh?!" Sakura couldn't help it. She knew that it was a possibility, but to Sasuke Uchiha of all people? She looked to Sasuke to see his reaction, only to find him staring at Ms. Yamatamo is surprise. He blinked, once, twice, three times. Before he finally managed a blunt, "What." Sakura face palmed, leave it to an Uchiha to react in such a manner.
Ms. Yamatamo gave them an apologetic smile. "Your parents have emailed me asking me to apologize for them not being able to tell you themselves. They just made the deal and wanted to get the news to you two as soon as they could."
"This cannot be happening." Sakura shook her head in disbelief. "Are you serious? I have to marry him?"
"I'm sorry that this inconveniences you." Ms. Yamatamo turned to Sasuke. "And Mr. Uchiha, how do you feel about this? I am a counselor after all."
"Hn. Her forehead is too big." He stated blankly. Sakura's face instantly flushed and her hands flew to cover her forehead. "Excuse me?!"
Sasuke shrugged and stared ahead at the counselor blankly. Ms. Yamatamo seemed to be at a loss at to what she was to respond with for a second, because she stumbled over her words.
"Uh, we-well, I uh-" she quickly cleared her throat, composing herself. "Th-Thank you for your- um. Honesty! Yes, thank you for your honesty. However I hope you both can come to terms with this." Before she could add anything else her phone buzzed. She looked down at it and looked back up at the two teens with a smile. "Well, I have to go check on something. How about you two stay here and get to know each other better?" She quickly exited the room before we could pose an argument.
Silence fell between the two teens. Sakura couldn't help but glance at her dark haired counterpart. She thought she was doing it discreetly but apparently not. Because Sasuke spoke up.
(A/N Not my best work whoops)
"Is there something on my face?" He spoke rather rudely.
Sakura scoffed and turned the other way. "You mean other than smugness and traces of an ego too oversized for you to have? No, your fine." All she got in reply was an annoyed grunt. She still couldn't help but smirk at the fact that she was actually able to get a reaction of some sorts out of him.
After a few moments of silence Sakura spoke up. "Shouldn't we at least try to get to know each other if we're to get married?" Sasuke grunted. She sighed, "I guess I'll take that as a yes." She stuck her hand out to him. "Haruno Sakura. Pleased to meet you."
He eyed her hand for a moment. "I don't bite." She murmured. When Sasuke went to shake her hand she added on, "Most of the time." He only rolled his eyes in return and shook her hand. Sakura smiled triumphantly and squeezed his hand with her iron grip. He grimaced and let out a pained grunt. He looked up to the pinkette only to see a forced smile gracing her lips.
She squeezed harder, "However I would like you to know something. I have no intention of being your "wife"." She put up her free hand and made quotations. "I will be your business partner. Only married through law. I have no interest in becoming your next heartbreak. Understand?"
He quickly nodded his head and she released his hand. Sasuke drew back his hand shakily and groaned. Sakura gracefully stood and headed towards the door. "I'm glad to have reached an understanding with you." She opened the door walked out into the rest of the office.
"Oh," She said not looking back at him. "I look forward to doing business with you." The Haruno stated in a voice too polite to be legit. With that she closed the door and left the brooding Uchiha with nothing but his thoughts to keep him company.
~~~
Sasuke sighed in annoyance and he scrolled through his phone.
"Sasuke."
The Uchiha looked up to meet the gaze of his older brother, Itachi. The older smiled at him, "Are you still upset?"
Sasuke couldn't help but roll his eyes. "No Itachi, I'm completely fine with marrying a girl I have absolutely no interest in. It's completely fine. In fact, it's fantastic."
Itachi couldn't help but smile, "I love how each word that exits your mouth is laced with sarcasm. Now, is that any way to speak to your nii-san?" Sasuke glared at him, only making the older Uchiha laugh. "Okay fine! Be like that. I'll just have to tell the chefs to not make that special tomato salad. I mean it's not like you like it anyway.."
Sasuke gasped in fake hurt. "You wouldn't."
Itachi grinned as if daring him. "Oh, but wouldn't I?"
They stared at each other for a few moments before Itachi bolted up from his seat and dashed towards the kitchen. Sasuke immediately chased after him. As they ran through the Uchiha manor Sasuke got an idea.
"Itachi!" He called out sweetly. "If you do this, I might just have to call and accidentally cancel your monthly shipment of dango!"
Itachi immediately stopped in his tracks. The younger Uchiha stopped as well, breathing heavily from running, but smirking nonetheless. Itachi turned around to meet the gaze of his younger brother, who was pulling out his phone.
"Sasuke..." Itachi warned. "If you dare press that call button I swear I will see to it that you won't consume another tomato for a year!"
Sasuke pressed the glowing green button and made a run for it in the other direction. This time, Itachi chased after him.
"Izumi's Sweets and Delectables, Izumi speaking. May I help you?" The voice came out loud and clear over the phone.
"Izumi!" Sasuke breathed out, tired from running away from his brother. "Sasuke?" Izumi answered confused from the other end of the line. "What's going on why are you breathing so hard?"
"Itachi's..... dango order... I want to... cancel it!" Sasuke said, breathing between words.
"SASUKEEE!"
Sasuke ignored his brother and focused on the phone call.
"Was that your brother? He sounded upset. Are you sure he wants me to cancel his order?"
"DON'T CANCEL IT IZUMI!"
"THIS IS WHAT YOU GET FOR TAKING AWAY MY TOMATOES!" Sasuke yelled back at him.
He heard her laugh, "Oh goodness. You two are too much. Make up! Itachi be nice to your little brother, don't take away his tomatoes, and I won't cancel your order. Now if you two will excuse me I'm working. Ja." With that the line went dead.
Sasuke stopped running in shock. By now the two had already made it into their backyard. The duck-butt haired boy looked down at his phone in disbelief and disappointment. "She hung up on me. I can't believ- Ugh!"
Sasuke's air was forcefully knocked out of him as Itachi tackled him to the ground. Pinning him down, they proceeded to wrestle until Itachi emerged victorious. Both breathing heavily, Sasuke surrendered and Itachi let him go. They lay there catching their breath for a minute before Itachi spoke up.
"Does it really bother you that much?" He asked, truly unaware of why it was such a bother to his younger brother.
Sasuke scoffed, "Didn't I just explain this Itachi? I have no interest in her. She's like the teachers pet of every teacher in the school. The Pride of Konoha Academy. We're polar opposites, Itachi."
Itachi went silent for a second as he thought over what Sasuke had said. While he was right in some way, Iatchi felt as though his little brother needed somebody like Sakura. His little brother had always been anti-social and avoided people regularly. He needed somebody like the young Haruno to get through to him and break down his walls.
The thought only made Itachi chuckle. Sasuke sent him a questioning look, "What?"
Itachi started to stand. "I think you should try to get to know her before saying your totally against it. Maybe you could come to an agreement with her. Who knows, maybe you'll even come to like her."
Sasuke rolled his eyes at his brother retreating figure before turning them back to look at the sky.
Like Sakura Haruno? Him? The Sasuke Uchiha? Not in a million years would that happen. While Sasuke would admit she was slightly pretty, she would never be pretty enough for Sasuke to consider even being okay with her. There was no way, he could like her.
~~~
"WHAT?!"
Sakura grimaced and brought her hands up to her ears which were now ringing.
"Jesus Pig could you not scream in my ear next time?" She said, glaring at her best friend. The blonde ignored her and cupped Sakura's face with her hands, scrunching up her facial features.
"Are you telling me the truth?" Ino asked seriously. "You're really marrying Sasuke Uchiha??"
Sakura pushed her away, "Yes, I am. It's beneficial for both our businesses, so our parents decided on it." For a moment it was silent in one of the many flower shops that Ino's family ran. As far as flower shops went they had to be the largest chain in Japan. The floral sent that lingered in the shop always helped calm the young Haruno.
Ino wiggled her eyebrows suggestively at her friend. "So, do you have any feeling about this?" Sakura rolled her eyes. "Yes, but not in the way that you think, Pig."
Ino pouted and huffed. "Jeez Forehead, you could at least humor me."
"Why would I do that? You're the Gossip Queen. I don't need you getting the wrong idea here." Sakura glared at her.
Ino held her hands up in surrender. "All I'm trying to point out is that you're literally living out the dream of eighty percent of the girls at our school. You're marrying Sasuke Uchiha. You'll be the talk of the school! You could at least give me something to work with."
Sakura shook her head, "That's what I mean. Let them talk, they still won't be getting anything out of me."
Ino sighed, realizing no matter how hard she pried, she wasn't going to get anything out of her best friend. "Fine, but all of those girl will hate you. What will you do about that?"
Sakura yawned, bored with the conversation. "Let them hate me. It's not like they don't already. I'm the top of our class Ino, that draws a lot of attention. Besides, it's not like I could do anything about it anyway."
"Okay..." Ino thought for a second. "Ah! What about Sasuke himself? How do you two get along?"
Sakura winced at the memory of earlier that day. "Not well. We can't seem to talk without arguing. And we've only held one conversation. He's unbelievably stubborn. There's no way I'll be able to get through to him. Much less stand on mutual ground."
Ino shrugged and sipped from her almost empty cup. "Guess you'll have to find another way of communicating with him."
Sakura looked up to the ceiling blankly. "Yeah, I guess so."
