Chapter 2 - "God's Calling?"
"I'm terrified to bring it up to Robby." I whimpered into my twin brother's shoulder. Tears had been cascading down my cheeks for so long, I had pretty much no makeup left on.
"He loves you. And God. So don't be afraid, sis. How do you know that God hasn't been putting the exact same thing on his mind and heart." Joey stroked my hair, singing to me in a quiet, gentle voice.
"Will you come with me?" I look up into his blue eyes, that match my own, biting my lip.
"Of course." He kisses the top of my head. "No way, I would let my sis go into something being scared without me." I hugged him in wordless thanks, because even though we can be wacky and crazy together. We can also really get each other and be totally serious.
We left the kitchen of our house, & found Robby in the living room, staring blankly at the black TV screen. "Honey...." I whispered.
"Britt." He was on his feet in an instant and eyes full of concern.
"We have ... been married a few years now..." I gulped, wiping my eyes.
"Baby?" Robby placed a hand on my arm. Tears brimmed in his eyes.
"It's alright." Joey murmured to both of us.
"You know we have tried for those years to have our own child." My heart dipped, we had thought we had been successful at one point, but I had lost the child early on. That was such unimaginable pain. "I think this might be God's calling? I want to adopt or at least foster care."
Robby let the tears fall now. "Really?" He wiped his eyes. "I've been feeling the same thing. Been having these dreams. Could see these little faces."
I gasped. Joey coughed, "coughTOLDYOUSOcough." I laughed, and elbowed Joey in the ribs. "I'm gonna go now. I'll catch up with you too, later." Joey let himself out.
"So... you ready for this adventure?" Robby whispered into my hair.
"With you and God. Always." I smiled, and kissed my husband's lips.
