Chapter 24: Lord and Lady Isembart

" Alright, your hair looks nice, your makeup is beautiful, and the dress still fits you well! I'll grab the bouquet, and then we can start the wedding. "

Your mother ran into the church with a bright smile. You stood outside the church, waiting for it to start, seeing as you had nowhere to go. The king was attending, so knights stood outside the church, watching you. Even though it wasn't for you, they were guarding; you felt slightly pressured to stay still. It irritated you, and further, your mother upset you. When she helped you slip on the dress, she started to brag about how she picked the right dress and didn't even comment on how the dress was completely different from what she had chosen.

" The music is playing, it's time! "

Your mother exited the church and handed you the bouquet, giving you one last glance before walking back inside. As your mother wished, you would be walking down the aisle alone without the help of your father. Your father was upset about this, but no matter how much he argued, he couldn't walk you down the aisle. Slowly the doors to the church opened; it was time.

The sound of music increased as the doors opened, and you stepped into the church, slowly walking toward the priest and your fiance. Light entered through the church windows and colored the room in light, but you couldn't be happy walking down the aisle with the lovely flowers in your hand.

At the end of the carpet was Lord Ismebart, standing in front of the hidden priest. The only priest available was one who never showed his face around the church but was more than happy to oversee the wedding. Sitting in one of the seats to your right, you spotted Genevive and Cecilia sitting with their hands folded. They showed you sad smiles, but you couldn't show them a smile. Something Lord Isembart decided was not having the best men or ladies standing at the altar; it would only be you and him.

Your mother sat in the front, smiling as bright as the sun with her hands held together as she watched you walk down the aisle. On your fiance's side, the king sat with his wife at the front, watching you walk down the aisle. Looking around, you tried to spot Arlutrix but couldn't see him.

At the end of the red carpet, Lord Isembart held his hand out toward you. However, instead of taking his hand, you went up the stairs and kneeled in front of the priest, waiting for the wedding to be over. Lord Isemabrt followed your actions, kneeling and showing respect to the priest as the ceremony started.

" We are gathered today to unite the two households of Lady Y/n and Lord Isemabrt. These two souls will forever be united--"

The priest continued with his words until it was time for the rings to be placed on your fingers. First, Lord Isembart stood, taking your hand and placing the ring on your finger. Next, you stood and returned the same gesture, putting the bigger ring on his ring finger before turning back to the priest.

" If anyone has any reason to oppose, this marriage, please stan--"

   " I object! "

Your eyes widened, and you turned to look into the crowd of people sitting, watching the ceremony. A petite woman with short chestnut hair stood up, raising her hand in the air. Her brown eyes were determined and focused on you. The woman wore a white dress, conflicting with yours, as she stepped out of the row and onto the red carpet.

   " I object! "

It wasn't common for a woman to object, and to say everyone was shocked, was put too simply. You didn't recognize the woman and were curious why she would object.

" Why do you object? " The priest asked, closing his book.

" I object because I love Lord Bobby Isembart! "

Everyone in the crowd gasped while you stood in your shock. However, you were secretly cheering for the woman in your head. Lord Isembart looked around before stepping down the stairs and approaching the woman; though he tried to whisper, you could still hear him.

" Eve, what are you doing? "

" I'm stopping you from marrying someone else. I love you, and ever since that night, together, I haven't stopped thinking about you. "

   " That was one night--"

" One night I'll never forget the rest of my life! " Eve shouted, alerting everyone.

From their little argument, you could understand what was going on. You finally discovered Lord Isembart had slept with another woman before your wedding. Your mother stood demanding what the young girl meant by what she said, and the crowd was in an uproar over the situation. People stood from their seats and started to involve themselves, forgetting about the wedding, making others stand up and shout. You still stood by the priest but soon turned your head when you felt the priest touch your elbow.

" My lady, shall we escape this scene? "

The book he was once holding was on the ground, and he held his hand out toward you, waiting for you to take his hand. His straight tone suddenly seemed familiar to you, not that it had relaxed and become calm. The priest raised the veil on his head, revealing his face, and you smiled seeing the person hiding.

   " Arlutrix. "

" You didn't think I would miss the wedding did you? "

" No, but where is the original priest? "

" With some blackmail, I managed to get his robes over mine and cover my face. Even without Eve's objection, I wasn't going to let you get married to Isemabrt. However, Eve did provide a nice distraction. Let's depart. "

You nodded and placed your hand in his, letting go of your bouquet. Arlutrix shed the vile and the robes he was wearing, revealing his black, grey, and gold robes and his turquoise eyes. There was only one way out of the church, and it was through the front doors. But, unfortunately, the side doors where you stood were only meant for prayer, so there wouldn't be an exit that way.

" We'll have to get through the crowd somehow. "

" But if I walk through anywhere, they'll notice the bride is leaving. "

" Not is the bride is wearing a different dress. "

Pink sparks lit up on Aarlutrix's fingers, and he threw them at the floor toward your feet. The white dress started changing. The dress changed to a soft color that could blend into the crowd quickly, with the length of the dress getting shorter. The train you had was gone and turned into a long dress that stopped at your ankles. The dress was still moveable, and you could still breathe while the fabric changed to become even smoother.

" But, what about your bond with Lord Isembart? " You questioned.

   " Don't worry about that anymore. It's gone. "

   " Gone? How did it--"

" I'll tell you about it later. It was just a quick spell, with a fire, and hair and more, but I'm more worried about getting you out of here. "

   " Excuse me, hair? "

" Yes. Hair. " Arlutrix said with a smile.

Once your dress finished changing, Arlutrix dove into the crowd, keeping your handheld within his. You avoided running into people that could spot your face easily or people that would cause an even more riot. You held Arlutrix's hand tightly, maneuvering through the crowd as much as possible. Finally, you were so close to the door, but as Arlutrix opened the door, the sun's orange light entered the church, startling everyone.

   " What's going on? "

" Who opened the door? "

" Wait, where did the bride go? "

" The bride is gone! "

   " There she is! "

   " That's the woman who objected, that's not Y/n! "

You thought you would get out of the church, but a voice rang over the crowd, stopping you and Arlutrix from going any further.

   " Y/n! "

Lord Isembart shouted and went in front of the crowds to see you with Arlutrix. The king followed after his friend and spotted the pair as well. But, no matter how many eyes were on your form, you kept your hand with Arlutrix's in case something extreme happened.

" How did her dress change so fast? The train is practically gone. " The king questioned.

Lord Isembart tried controlling Arlutrix by summoning the chain, but the familiar green whisps didn't appear, and no chain appeared in his hands. Lord Isembart was shocked but soon regained his senses, glaring at the mage.

" He's a warlock. "He told the king.

   " What? "

" That has to explain the dress being gone and the new dress she is wearing. "

" We can't suddenly assume that. We need to have a trial. Guards! Make sure that man doesn't leave! "

The guards started running toward you and Arlutrix, and without a moment's thought, blue sparks surrounded your body and Arlutrix's.

   " Flotter! "

You floated in the air, and the king's eyes widened.

" He is a mage! Capture that warlock! "

Arlutrix floated through the doors, taking you with him. A horse was waiting outside, and Arlutrix floated to the horse and sat down, getting rid of the flying spell. He pulled you to sit before him, and then he got rid of the spell on you.

   " Let's go! "

He pulled the horse's reins and started running away from the church. You noticed it at the horse's hooves, but purple whisps were floating around them, causing the swift movements. The guards still chased after you, but none of them had horses, giving you the advantage to get out faster.

" Let me guess, you borrowed the horse? " You shouted.

" Always borrow, never steal. " He shouted back.

The horse was quick around corners, but soon your joy was taken away as you heard more horses from behind you. You looked back and saw knights on horses running after you, causing your adrenaline to spike.

   " Arlutrix! "

"Wait, until we get past the gate! We'll be fine! "

The gate was closed, and Arlutrix threw a white whisp into the air when you got through the doors. The whisp sparked before exploding into millions more, covering you, Arlutrix, and the horse. The warlock behind you turned the horse into the forest, running through the trees. You looked back again but saw the guards continue down the gravel path, not looking toward the forest where you had entered.

" What did you do? " You asked.

" That, my lady, was a spell to keep us from their sights for a short time. It'll be enough time to get us away. "

Together you rode off, leaving the castle, guards, and the gossip behind. You wouldn't truly be out of Vumaaedal's border unless you traveled much farther and entered another kingdom.
