Addison POV

I just sat there waiting for any reaction from Adam. He stared at the test in my hand while his face was completely blank. Silent tears began to run down my cheeks. He was obviously shocked. He felt the same way I did. I too had been totally shocked when I saw that the test was positive. 

It was way too early and we hadn't even talked about it yet. But now we had to.

Adam took the test very carefully in his hand, but still didn't say a word. That could only be a bad sign. Couldn't it? I took a deep breath to be able to say something.

"I don't know... I'm... I'm sorry. I know we didn't... planned it. I realize this is a big- Where are you going?" I wanted to know as he suddenly stood up and walked towards the walk-in closet.

I guess that was all I needed to know. I sniffled softly and wiped the tears from my cheek. Then I stood up and made my way to the door. I had to get out of here before the dam broke for good.

"Where are you going?" I heard Adam ask the moment I had the doorknob in my hand.

"I'll spare you having to talk to me. I get it anyway," I replied.

"You didn't understand anything, Addie. Look at me." he said softly.

Reluctantly, I turned around and looked at him. Even though it was the last thing I wanted to do at that moment. But then I saw that Adam was holding something in his hand. I gasped in surprise.

"I just wanted to get this real quick. Although it's not what I imagined it to be. But I think that goes for both of us. I'm sorry I wasn't able to say anything right now. But you know I love you! Please don't run away. 

I love you and I am just.... so happy. I know you are right that it wasn't planned... but that doesn't make it any less special. We are going to have a baby. We are a family and I want you by my side forever. I knew you were special from the first moment I saw you in that bar. And I don't freaking care that we've only been together for 6 months.

Actually, I wanted to surprise you on your birthday. But now that you have surprised me, I can't think of a better moment. Addison Blake, will you do me the honor and become my wife?" he continued, then got down on one knee.

"I... What now? You're... not mad?" I wanted to know in complete surprise.

"I'm not mad. Not one bit. On the contrary! I am happy. And I know you will be, too, once you've had a chance to process the news. What do you say, Addie? Will you marry me?" he replied and then came up to me and looked at me with ocean blue eyes.

In fact, his gaze held nothing but happiness. It looked like I had misjudged the whole situation. All my worries had apparently been unfounded.

"I... yes... I want to marry you, Adam. I love you." I said, or rather stammered, because now I couldn't hold back the tears a second longer.

Adam came to me and wrapped me tightly in his arms while I cried on his shoulder. All the emotions just came crashing down. I tried to pull myself together, but I just couldn't at that moment. That's why I just let it out.

"Better?" asked Adam after a while when I had more or less calmed down again.

Carefully, he led me to the sofa before handing me a tissue. I blew my nose and looked up at him.

"I'm sorry. It's just... I'm a mess. I guess it was all a bit much," I said.

Adam pulled me into his arms so that I could snuggle up to him. Slowly he stroked my back. That was something that always calmed me. I loved feeling his warmth while listening to his heartbeat.

"We're going to figure this out. I don't want you to worry about anything, okay?" he replied.

"Okay." I said softly.

"Can I do one more thing?" he wanted to know.

"Sure..." I replied and sat up so I could look at him.

Then he took the ring box that was next to him and opened it. Gently he took the ring out before taking my left hand in his. Very slowly he slid the beautiful ring onto my finger and then kissed my hand. When I looked at him, I immediately saw how proud he was.

This gave me such a good feeling. Love for this man and our little unexpected something flowed through me as I simply took his face between my palms and kissed him full of love, trust and gratitude.
