1 Year later

   " So, Misa died that same day? "

   " She did. They said she jumped off of the tallest building. It was suicide. "

   " Her life span was cut two times. Maybe even three. "

   " Which is why she died so young. She was infatuated with Light until you entered her life but she still wanted that new world. You did what you could. "

   " I know, but I still miss her. "

   " I know. "

I felt Lawliet hug me from behind. I accepted the hug and turned around to hug him back. I felt tears leave my face as I hugged him. Misa died the same day Light did. She wore her maid outfit and rode into the city. There she fell from the tallest building. I'm still traumatized by what happened. Sometimes I can hear Light yelling for me to kill them. Lawliet made it his objective to care for me or help me during these times. When he wasn't home Watari would help me. We moved to London and Lawliet took a job as a detective. He was very successful in his career. People even said he could beat the biggest detective there was, Near. He would tell them there was no way he could. So, from his position, he earns a lot of money. People call him Ryuzaki still. He only lets me call him Lawliet. I joined him in becoming a detective. I'm successful myself. We would sometimes take trips to visit Near. He moved back to America and continued his work there in Manhatten. Matsuda took the role of Deputy chief director on the Japanese task force. Aizawa and Mogi continued their jobs as police officers with ide by their side. The world was going back to how it originally was, but very slowly. There are still people, mainly around Japan, who still worship Kira. Matsuda's job leads him to take control and he takes care of these people very quickly. Sayu was still a little mentally messed up so Matsuda made it his priority to take care of her. They later started dating and Sayu's never been happier.

   " I still can't believe it. "

   " It's hard to believe. Especially with Matsuda. Who would have thought he would take Soichiro Yagami's place? "

   " He did his best to make Mr. Yagami proud. I could see it happening. Mr. Yagami would be proud of Matsuda. Especially to have him as a son-in-law. "

   " They aren't getting married yet. "

   " They might as well be. He's planning on asking her to marry him in a couple of days. "

   " Is he now? "

   " Yes, he is. "

   " We need to visit everyone over there. "

   " That would be nice. "

   " Let's go tomorrow. It's Saturday and we don't have to be at work for a couple of days. "

The next day we boarded a plane and we flew to Japan. When we got off I saw Aizawa, Mogi, and Ide waiting for us. I ran and hugged each of them. L just nodded at them with a small smile. We walked to their car and they started driving us towards Matsuda's house. When we got there I saw Sayu sitting on the front porch in her rocking chair. I got out of the car and ran to her.

   " Sayu! "

She looked up and smiled at me.

   " Y/n! "

We hugged each other and we wouldn't let go of each other until Matsuda walked outside.

   " Y/n, you're here! "

Matsuda hugged both Sayu and me. We walked inside and started talking. The next day I woke up and got dressed. I walked out of the house and started walking two streets over. Lawliet walked with me. I saw my old house in the distance. It looked sad.

   " My parents never came back. "

   " I know. "

   " They left for a business trip after I joined Toho University and never came back. Looks like they didn't want me after all. "

   " But I do. "

I looked at Lawliet and smiled at him. I grabbed his hand and we started walking away from the old house. We passed by The old Yagami house on the way. No one lived there now. It was up for rent and Sayu sold everything that was in there except for a few of her mother's and father's possessions. Anything that was Lights was gone. The only thing she had of his was pictures of their family. I still had pictures in our home of me and Light, but there were more pictures of Lawliet and me together. Some were of Near, Matsuda, Aizawa, Ide, Mogi, Sayu, Watari, and of Misa. We made sure to hang up pictures and keep a book of pictures. There's no way we could forget what happened but we saved pictures from when times were peaceful or when the investigation calmed down enough for happiness.

   " Let's go visit them. "

I nodded. We started walking away from all of the houses and towards the graveyard. I looked over at the city and saw the Task Force building. Matsuda turned it into the main base for the new Task Force. They weren't stuck in a square building anymore, but one that held history and had all the capable equipment to work through any case. He sometimes called Lawliet to help solve a case and he would come help. Only because Near had a lot of other cases, but Near made sure to contact Lawliet and me every week. We made it to the graveyard and the first headstone we were at was Mello's.

   " Thank you, Mello. For kidnapping me and letting me meet you. "

   " Mello you were a great person to succeed me and in the end you did. "

Beside Mello's was Matt's. I never knew Matt but I knew he was best friends with Mello. I gave my respects and we walked to a nicely decorated grave. It was Misa's. Her fans still love her after all these years and they are honoring her at every music festival.

   " I'll miss you Misa. You were such an amazing woman and my best friend. I'm sorry I couldn't have helped you sooner. "

   " Misa I as well miss you. I see this woman every day at work who acts just like you and I can see you every time I see her. So, your spirit still lives on. Thank you for helping us. "

We walked to the last set of graves. It was The Yagami family. Mrs. Yagami and Mr. Yagami had been buried together and they had one big headstone.

   " Thank you for treating me like your own daughter. I couldn't have imagined growing up without you two. The two of you treated me with such kindness and sweetness. You both treated me like a daughter and I'm sorry I couldn't protect you. "

   " You both were amazing people who did not deserve to die. You were the best parents a kid could ask for. Y/n was only able to grow up with your help. You groomed Sayu into such a sweet person as well. You defended your son until both of your deaths which is the true honor of being a parent. Thank you for your help. "

We looked at the last grave that we were going to visit. It was Lights. I stood in front of the grave and felt fresh tears run down my face.

   " Light, not a day goes by that I don't think about what happened. We grew up together and we went through that whole experience until you died. Light, in the end, you just...I'm sorry. That day I saw you pick up that notebook I should have taken it. I had so many opportunities to take it from you and stop yourself from going into madness. I didn't know what it was at the time but I'm sorry. I could have stopped all of this. I miss you."

   " Light...You were a wonderful person to work with. You came close to meeting my skill, but you were never able to make it. Playing tennis with you was fun. In the end, though this was justice. You did this to yourself. But you would have been a great detective. Maybe you could have even one day taken your father's old position. Farewell, my friend. "

Tears continued to leave my eyes until we got out of the graveyard. We started walking back to Matsuda's house. When we got close I noticed a new person was there. It was Near. He was sitting on the porch with everyone and talking. I smiled at the site. It was night now and the stars were out.

   " That chapter of our lives is over now, Y/n. Now we must continue on with our lives. "

   " I know, it's just hard. "

   " We don't have to forget what happened. You just need to accept they're gone. I'll be here to always help you through it. "

   " Thanks, Lawliet. "

   " I want to start this new chapter of our lives right. "

   " What? "

I noticed everyone was gone from the porch and It was just Lawliet and I outside. I was watching as Lawliet got in his weird crouched position. I followed him and he pulled out a box. Lawliet opened it to reveal a ring.

   " Y/n, you have been with me since the investigation began. I didn't think I would find someone like you along the way but I'm glad I did. You've brought joy and fun into my life and I've met someone who has the same sweet tooth, who likes games, who I can have an intelligent conversation with. I couldn't imagine my life without you. Y/n, will you marry me? "

   " Lawliet..."

I looked at the ring and had a flashback of all our moments together. More tears left my eyes as I smiled.

   " Yes! "

He put the ring on my finger and we hugged each other. When we pulled apart our lips connected in a kiss. It was a passionate kiss full of love. After a few minutes, we pulled away and hugged again. Lawliet picked me up and carried me inside Matsuda's house.

   " We're getting married! " I shouted.

Everyone congratulated us and Matsuda laughed at how Lawliet beat him to the punch before he could ask Sayu. Lawliet set me down on the couch. He sat beside me and held me close. I leaned against him with a smile on my face.

   ' F/n L/n you were a brave teenager and woman for going through what you did, but it's time to say goodbye. You will always be a part of me but I've got a new story now. One with a new last name. Goodbye F/n L/n. '
