~21~

Streams of sweat ran down my back, my breathing was loud and uneven. My feet hit the solid ground in a hard contact as the sound of the lyrics of; Radioactive by Imagine Dragons, blasted through the speakers of my earphone. It was partially dark, the day had only just begun to break.

I had left the apartment quite early this morning, very determined to go out for an early morning jog round the neighbourhood. I needed to get out of the house, and away from Laura. As far as possible.

They had acted as if nothing had happened through out the night and resolved on going back to playfully teasing me. I usually smiled or laughed at their jokes but last night was different. I had scowled at every joke they threw at me and later ended up going to bed still very mad at them.
This they were still oblivious of.

"What about us?"

I increased my speed, my legs hitting the ground harder and in a quicker motion. I took a right turn round a building.

"... I really like him."

I pulled my face cap lower on my head and kept on running.

"...I've waited so long for this."

I kept my face low and made a turn towards the central park. It was empty, and I was happy about that. Small rays of sunlight shone from above, adoring its features. The light secretly sending me a message that I'd have to go back soon.

I ignored it and kept on running.

"...give me another chance."

The song ended and I now became fully aware of the silence that divulged around me.

"Argh!" I scream at the open air, my voice echoing in the park.

I stop running and come to a halt in the middle of the park. I sit down on the floor, cross legged, and wipe off the bids of sweat on my forehead angrily. I take off my hat, then I lay flat on my back on the ground, my chest rising and falling from my uneven breathing.

I did nothing but just think.

I thought of everything and everyone.

All that had happened.

And all I had discovered.

I knew I had to head back soon to get ready for school. I had a lecture by 8:00am today.

I ignore the obvious and lay there for a while, still drowning in my conflicted thoughts. I quickly get up when I hear the distant sound of someone approaching me.

I whip my head in the direction of the noise and see a masculine figure jogging my way. He wore a grey tan top and black sweat pants, face was hidden behind his face cap and earphones were plugged in.

Guess I'm not alone anymore.

I move away from his path and he tips the front of his hat in recognition. I nod and turn to head home.

It's a long walk from where I'm at.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I head straight to the kitchen, still in my workout outfit and cringe when I see Laura sitting on a kitchen stool, in her blue robe, with a mog in hand.
She was up already?
I checked the time on my watch and saw that it was now 7:05am. Fifty five minutes before my first lecture, I had to speed things up.
"Hey," she says, when I come into her sight of view.
"Hey," I reply rudely.
"I see you went for a morning run."
I grunted in response.
"Okay then."
I said nothing but took a cup from the cupboard, then the orange juice carton from the fridge and poured myself a glass.
"Can I ask you something?" She asked suddenly, taking me off guard.
Now you're talking.
"Sure," I mumbled lowly.
My ears were wide open, waiting for her question to come.
This should be when she tells me everything and apologises to me for keeping such a huge secret.
"Pink or yellow?" She piped up.
"Huh?"
"Pink or yellow?" She repeated, "Which would look better on me?"
For the love of God!
"You!" I point a finger at her accusingly, "have got to be kidding me!" I yell and slap myself on the forehead.
I was livid. How could she not see that?
I hissed and stomped out of the kitchen and into my room, banging the door close the moment I'm in.
"It's only a question!" I hear her yell.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

"You look mad."

I huff and unclench my fists from under the table.

"It's nothing. Really."

"Tell that to your squeezed coke can."

Sighing, I release my death grip from the can.

"See," I waved my hands, "All better."

Marisol and I were currently seated at a booth, with a plate of ordered chips and chicken in front of us. After my last lecture, which we happened to have taken together. We decided to hang out and so here we are.

"Are you going to tell me what's wrong?" She asks.

I slump down in my seat, "It's nothing."

"You really don't like sharing your problems now, do you?"

"It's complicated," I say and smile apologetically.

"Boy problems or girlfriend problems?"

I wail, "Both."

"Okay. I'll give you time."

My phone started ringing again, for the umpteenth time since we got here.

"Aren't you going to answer that?"

I take a quick glance at the screen and see Sean's caller ID pop up, again. He had been calling non stop since yesterday. As much as I wanted to pick up the phone, I didn't, couldn't and wouldn't!

I shake my head negative.

"I may not know what's happening but I think you should give the guy a chance."

I look up form the table wide eyed and face Marisol, who was busy chewing on some chips. I eye the plate of chips for a while.

Doesn't she know how many calories that thing contains?

"I mean, he's been calling for a while now. So I think he's really serious or sorry...whichever the case maybe."

"Um," I glance at my phone to see the ringing had stopped. I pick it up and unlock the screen.

16 missed calls.
5 messages.

Sean(12)
Scott(2)
Janet(1)
Laura(1)

Scott called? I must've missed it when I was too busy ignoring Sean.
I groaned and turn it off.

Should I really listen to Marisol and give him another chance?
Another chance to shatter my heart...

"So how about we hang out again this weekend?" She asks, "You know; movies and stuff."

"I'm sorry," her face fell, "I'm going home this weekend."

"Oh! it's okay." She waved it off, "What for?" She asked.

"Sisters' wedding," I say simply.

"She's getting married this weekend?"

"Oh! No!" my eyes widened, "dress testing."

"You're the maid of honour?"

I grunt, "I wish."

Grrrr....Ashley.

"Enough about me. What about you?" I ask, "Anything interesting going on, any love interest or crush?"

She smiled sheepishly, "I-uh...well," she stuttered.

"Mari you sly!"
