"No need," Kiara objected. "I am fine," she wiped her nose with the handkerchief. "You don't have to cancel the plan for me."
"Kiara, you are aware that you're allergic to colds. And I don't think this surrounding is going to be of help." Avni interjected, walking towards a set of bags and removing a blanket from the treasure.
"I wasn't aware you're allergic to colds or I would have never suggested this place." Harshad sounded guilty, Avni wrapping the blanket around Kiara's shoulder. "You even got drenched last night. Oh shit! Only if I was aware."
"That was the reason I was getting concerned," Dhruv growled walking towards Kiara, he glared at Aditi. "You were questioning my concern over Kiara. Now see the result!" Muttered Dhruv wrapping his arm around Kiara and pulling her closer to him. "And you had to behave stubborn drenching in rain rather than walking some distance and spending a night in a comfortable car." He was shooting daggers at her.
"We had walked for half an hour, Dhruv. Don't you dare declare me lazy, I was utterly exhausted." Kiara groaned leaning more into his chest as she was getting drained with the continuous sneezing.
"Let's get you home." He muttered in her hair as he pecked a kiss over there.
"Not home, mom and dad will lecture me."
"You deserve their lecture for your carelessness."
"Please, Dhruv..." she whined making Dhruv melt.
"Fine... but let's first leave from here."
___
"Dhruv, it's just a cold," Kiara grumbled finding Dhruv glancing in her direction every second. He had forced Kiara to sit on the passenger seat as he wasn't desiring to let Kiara escape from his eyes for a minute.
"I know..." he growled making Kiara have a slight smile on her lip.
After their argument a few hours back she doubted if they would even have a normal conversation. But their friendship was weird, Dhruv was dying of concern. "It had happened only once, Dhruv. You should forgive yourself for it." Kiara whispered softly on finding Dhruv's grip tightened on the streeling wheel. His eyes were fixed on the road before him, his jaw clenched.
Aditi was witnessing the moment with a scowl on her face, Avni's orbs frequently glanced in Aditi's direction. Avni was getting the hint that Aditi was growing jealous of Kiara. She was burning with insecurities. Was she aware of something others had no idea about? Was she insecure because she could see Dhruv's craving for Kiara's attention? Was Dhruv really in love with Aditi or not?
"What are they talking about?" Harshad inquired getting curious. A sudden spark of jealousy had controlled his spirit but he was more concerned about Kiara's health to allow the feeling to have control over him.
"A few years back, bhai was just eleven and Kiara was as well. They had drenched in rain due to bhai's stubbornness and later Kiara's health got bitter as she wasn't able to breathe, she has asthma and it triggers at times. The cold environment and change in climate trigger her allergy to cold and frequent sneezing which makes her breathing level decline. Kiara was admitted to the hospital, she could hardly take in any oxygen. That incident scared the shit out of bhai. Even today he doesn't like mentioning that day. That's the reason whenever Kiara's allergy is triggered he grows over-protective just like today." Amrita explained this to Yami and Harshad.
"I wasn't even aware that she had asthma." Yami sounded disappointed that Kiara had kept such a thing hidden from her.
"Kiara doesn't like giving importance to her illness." Avni muttered, "she doesn't like to consider that anything is wrong with her."
"And that's the reason she hardly consumes the tablets," Dhruv grumbled making Kiara glance at Dhruv with an innocent pout.
"Don't you dare make me feel guilty!" Kiara wiped her nose again after another sneeze. Her voice was getting weak as she leaned on the seat the continuous sneezing was draining her energy, and her eyes were brimming with tears. "I have to remind you to take tablets on the days you have flu."
"Can't you simply shut your mouth?" Dhruv glared at her, seeing her exhausted self. "Even in such a state, you want to argue."
"You infuriate me," Kiara grumbled.
"Yes, I am the reason behind everything," Dhruv uttered staring straight at the road.
"That's Dhruv and Kiara, the two people that define friendship," Amrita muttered a small grin playing on her lips. "I wish and pray things to sort out between them."
"Same here," Avni whispered back.
Aditi was staring out of the window as if least interested in the view. Yami seemed dubious, she wasn't able to decide what was correct for Kiara. And slowly she glanced at Harshad, maybe Yami was a little biased towards Harshad as she wanted Harshad to get the love of his life. She wanted Kiara to choose Harshad over Dhruv but she couldn't assure her heart that Kiara would choose Harshad over her childhood friend, a friend that cared for and loved her.
Spending some time with Kiara's friend, Yami had got certain views on them. Avni seemed aware of Kiara's feelings and always acted supportive towards her. Avni had also started connecting Harshad and Kiara together maybe providing Kiara with aid from Aditi's and Dhruv's interaction. She could feel that Harshad was the perfect distraction Kiara needed. But Yami couldn't miss the hope sparkle in Avni's eyes each time Dhruv and Kiara spend time together. She could feel that Avni wanted them to end up together.
Amrita seemed a girl of lots of positivity, she was the most idealistic of all. Having the innocence still intact. Amrita had grown up with the friendship surrounding her, the bond that she valued the most. Yami understood if anyone would be most impacted by the breakup in friendship it would be Amrita. She somehow gathered that Amrita's whole world revolved around her friends. Amrita's every conversation was about past events related to them. Kiara and Dhruv were an essential part of her life. She was closer to Kiara after her brother so their friendship meant the world to her. Amrita hadn't shown an interest in the couple. So, Yami articulated Amrita would be more pleased if Dhruv and Kiara were a couple.
On the other hand, only one person was deeply disturbed by Kiara's friendship with Dhruv. Yami wasn't sure if was Kiara so naïve not to understand Aditi's building envy towards Kiara or if she opted to overlook it. Aditi couldn't meet eyes with Kiara. Aditi had been ignoring Kiara's existence and she would mention her name only to utter that she was looking great with Harshad. As Harshad had mentioned months back Aditi was desperate to make Kiara end up with Harshad. And that desperation could mean only one thing, she was aware of Dhruv having feelings towards Kiara.
Dhruv? He was a hard shell to crack. For a minute Yami felt that he was interested in Aditi but after a minute his glares at Harshad, a sweet exchange with Kiara, suggested that he was fuming in jealousy. Dhruv wasn't easy to read. Yami couldn't understand the reason behind hiding his feeling. Maybe he was in a difficult situation as well. He was in dilemma whether to listen to her heart or his brain.
But in all this Harshad was going to be trapped. Harshad was having feelings involved and Yami won't be able to see him disheartened.
____
Kiara was wrapped in a thick blanket as she was forced to be laid on the bed. Kiara was narrowing her eyes at her over-protective friend as Avni was rushing towards the kitchen to prepare a coffee for her while Amrita was searching for jackets and Dhruv was busy searching for Kiara's prescribed tablets in his cell.
"How could you forget the name of the tablets?" Dhruv was scolding her, "you are taking it from more than a decade."
"That doesn't mean I should remember the name," Kiara countered back.
"Dhruv, you are aware she isn't good with remembering things," Aditi commented making Yami's eyes narrow while Kiara showed the least interest in her words.
"I got it!" Dhruv exclaimed on the verge of walking out of the room.
"I will join you as well," Harshad mentioned making Dhruv glare in his direction. Dhruv had opened his mouth to oppose but he glanced in Kiara's direction, she was staring at him with concerned eyes.
"Fine..." Dhruv gritted his teeth walking out without sparing a glance at anyone.
Aditi shook her head, "I don't understand Dhruv at times." She muttered, "why is he having a hard time accepting Harshad?" She paused for a minute, glancing at Kiara. "I don't know why can't he understand that you are no longer a kid and can take decisions on your own." Aditi's comment made Kiara sulkier.
Yami was keenly observing the interaction, a slight smirk lapping Aditi's face. What was Aditi trying to do? Was the difference between Dhruv and Kiara due to Aditi? Was she planning to drift two friends apart? Wasn't she Kiara's friend as well? Yami had often felt sympathy towards Aditi though she wanted Kiara to gain her love but never wished for Aditi's heartbreak. She had heard a lot from Kiara about Aditi and had started liking her but the Aditi, she had come across was different. Nothing that Kiara had mentioned.
"Aditi, how did your love story start?" Yami inquired making Kiara's eyes drift into sadness as she glanced at Yami. How could she bring up such a topic that could make her drive deep in agony? And when her health was so bad!
Aditi's eyes sparkled in delight, her eyes darting to Kiara. "Our love story! Do you mean mine and Dhruv's?" A sense of satisfaction filled her spirit on finding Kiara averting her gaze from them. She felt fulfilled on finding her grieving in pain. Aditi had experienced so much pain on discovering Dhruv was more interested in Kiara. She felt an inner urge to provide the same to Kiara. She wanted her to know what jealousy felt like.
"Yes! You both love each other, right? How you both discovered that you both are in love?"
"We both were friends from childhood and have always shared an interest in each other. I don't know whether it's love or not but I felt something was missing when Dhruv mentioned a break. I felt as if, something very dear to me was out of my reach. I opted for distraction. I travelled around but I couldn't escape from the inner emptiness and so I came back. I confessed that I was fine with him taking time to think about us. I would allow him all the time, he needs. But I won't ever leave his hand." The last statement was uttered glancing at Kiara.
"Wow! That's so wonderful." Yami's comment made Aditi smirk wider. "How do you know Dhruv loves you?"
"He had confessed among the entire group. Hadn't he Kiara?" Aditi smirked wanting to bring Kiara into the limelight but Yami interrupted.
"That isn't what I am asking. People often say they love us but they hardly do. At times, they are confused with their feelings. What I am asking is, had he ever done something for you that he would have never done for anyone? Maybe something special only for you."
"Dhruv isn't such a guy, he can't do surprises. He can't even remember our birthdays."
"But he always remembered yours," Kiara interjected; her sneezing was declining.
"Yes, he does! Won't that be called that he treats me special?" Aditi inquired, knocking down Yami's question.
"Maybe," Yami shrugged her shoulder. "What about you, Kiara? When you knew, you had fallen in love? Maybe you were attracted to him?" Yami's interrogation made Kiara stare at her suspiciously. Why was she bringing this up in front of Aditi? "I had never asked you the exact moment you discovered that it was love?"
"It wasn't the exact moment! It can never be," Kiara muttered, shaking her head. "It was a series of moments. A girl that never kept others' happiness above her wasn't able to see him upset due to her actions. The person that never apologized even if she was at fault and offered silent treatment to her parents for days until they made a move. Suddenly the mere thought of him being upset made her apologize. The restlessness, the desperation never allowed her to consider her above him." Kiara had an innocent smile playing on her lips as she was narrating the incidents.
"And above all when I ended my day with a prayer that may he always get his happiness, may he lead a wonderful life, and may his all sadness disappear. Never the thought of asking him from God crossed my mind. All I wanted was his happiness and I knew I had fallen for someone deep and hard." A tear rolled from the corner of her eyes.
"This is what falling in love feels like..." Avni muttered as she entered the room with a cup of coffee.
"And how fortunate he is to have someone who feels something so beautiful for him," Yami commented, her orbs glancing at Aditi for a second.
^^^
Don't you all think that Dhruv is fortunate that Kiara loves him so much? but maybe he is also the most unlucky soul.
